Thanks for these - they're great and give a great comparison.

I've sailed on 4 of the different classes but I would have thought Wonder would have been Quantum Class rather than Oasis - who knew?!

I've been getting My Royal Emails with a 35% Internet Discount for Pre-Cruise Purchase.  For our next TA 15 days on Brilliance of the Seas. The cost is $239.85

for Voom Surf on device, but NO 35% Discount.. I don't see any advantage of buying this package pre-cruise because we get two days free with our Diamond Benefits

and no discount for pre-purchase. Maybe they'll offer a discount after we use up our two days free. Can anybody give us some advice?

I can't help with your question but you're on the same sailing as we are.

Come and join us on our roll call

  3. Hi

You could get the ferry from Santa Margherita Liguria using Line 5 as detailed on this website www.traghettiportofino.it

It seems to be around 35EUR for the return trip with 2 hours to spend in Vernazza or Riomaggiore and the 3 hours in Monterosso.

    Hope this helps

  4. How strict were they with boarding times at Southampton? We are on Navigator next month and have been given a boarding time of 14.15pm but would prefer to be onboard much earlier than that. Thinking of going down earlier but not sure if they will let us on or turn us away. Would appreciate your view on this.

I know the feeling. Our flight gets in rather early in Southampton and we don't want to be hanging around for hours with our bags!

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

They're not usually too strict - I've had early afternoon times on my boarding info before and been in line at 10.30 to check in with no problems :)

  5. Hi Raina

I've just finished reading this and I'm blown away by your photos, your memories and the detail you've included.

Thanks so much for sharing all this. BUT - I do have a request - you have link in your signature to the Transpacific Vancouver to Sydney but the link won't work (I think there is one too many http\\ included) and I can't find it with a search - can you let me know the full link please as I'd love to read that one as well :)

    Thanks again

  6. What a wonderful review!

I was intrigued by the title and just read it first to last.

We were in Coco Cay in 2012 and had a hairy time getting back on board - they cleared the beaches early as the weather was taking a turn for the worse.

The smallest ship I've sailed on is Vision which I enjoyed, partly due to the Baltics itinerary, but I will now look at the smaller ships with more interest rather than just looking at Freedom and Voyager class - thank you for such a detailed and informative thread

  7. When we were on Explorer earlier this year there were the usual 2 servers in the DL and one of them was not as attentive as the other. We tipped 'our guy' at the end of the third day as he was always there to refill our glasses and knew what our drinks were.

When the lounge was a little busy he was always there to find us seats and push tables together to create space. He got another tip every 3 or 4 days and then a tip at the end. The smaller tips ensured we got good service through the course of the 12 days rather than waiting til the end.

  8. I like that idea

How about a 3-4 page Master Compass upon Embarkment with all of the daily activities listed. Then, each night they give out a 1 page Port-Highlight or Sea-Day Special for the following day. Cut down on the paper significantly...There is enough opportunity in the Public Areas to showcase any Sales or Spa-Specials on Boards or Signage.

On our last cruise we got notices left on the bed when to move the time forwards or backwards and I put them to one side for them to use for the next cruise but I wonder if they did

  9. On our recent Explorer trip there were frequent errors in the Compass.

We sailed round-trip from Southampton and there were references to guests needing assistance for debarking in Fort Lauderdale and shore excursions that were offered in the Canary Islands even though we did mainland Spain and Portugal :p

  10. hey denisey ... I need help with a saying .... when you describe your tiny hall like room in Venice ... you mention something involving a cat .... I was a bit shocked, since as a foreigner I took the saying literally.... I know you own a cat yourself and are a nice, mentally sane person .... so pleassseeee explain the meaning of this rather odd saying to me. :o thank you!

    Hi Stef

Denisey will probably be along later but I think you're referring to a small space not being big enough to swing a cat. If that's the case it is from when prisoners were whipped as a punishment. The whip had multiple strands to cause the most pain and was called a cat o' nine tails. The flogger needed to raise his arm to bring the whip down with force and if the space was small there wasn't enough room for him to do this properly.

    Hope this helps

  11. 3 weeks ago on Explorer there were kids of 7 or 8 in the hot tubs swimming across the space almost like doing laps in a proper pool!!

I finally got out when a little tot of around 2 got in with her armbands on and sat bobbing about - no parents in sight - I was appalled
