  1. We know Indochine well. On past cruises we loved it. On this cruise we found it horrible. All Silversea ships open the restaurants at 7 pm. Dining at 8 or so is generally not a problem on other ships, which have larger Restaurant/Atlantide capacity (and a generally more popular open seating alternative in SALT). On past cruises on the Muse we had only occasional issues, but on this cruise Indochine was so unpopular that we (and many others) had long waits.

  2. We're long time Silversea cruisers considering an Explora Journey. One of the things we love about Silversea is that there is that on both sea and port days, the Restaurant/Atlantide is open for a leisurely, indoor, non-buffet lunch. Does Explora offer something similar?

I am hoping someone will respond to your question but would you mind expanding a little on your last two Silversea cruises?

I have 30+ nights booked on a back to back next year and it’s my first time trying Silversea. Usually sail Regent, Oceania (I feel the same about them as you do Silversea), Seabourn and Viking.

After so many mixed reviews I am seriously considering not trying them. Thank you

We had a very disappointing cruise on the Nova in January/February and I don't think we would sail that ship again, especially in cold weather - too few indoor bar and restaurant seats for the number of passengers and serious short staffing everywhere.

We just completed 27 days on the Muse and it was much better- not as good as our cruises last year or previously, but heading back towards the Silversea standards we've always enjoyed.

However, we encountered a problem that I believe is unique to the Muse. It has a much smaller main dining room (Atlantide) than other ships in its class. On this cruise we found it impossible to get a table for  2 around 8, our preferred time to eat. We were consistently seated around 9 after waiting at the bar. There are certainly many other restaurant options, some with food we enjoy as much or more than Atlantide, but they require reservations and/or had more limited menus, which is problematic for a long cruise.

Thus, I am looking for a replacement for a cruise we have booked on the Muse next year.

We have more than 350 days on Silversea and have a number of cruises booked on other ships that we are looking forward to. I wouldn't hesitate to give Silversea a try, especially the Moon, Dawn or Shadow, which are our favorite ships.

  4. We sailed old Crystal several times years ago, but have sailed Silversea almost exclusively for the past 10+ years. After 2 disappointing Silversea cruises this year we are considering new Crystal. Is the main dining room open for lunch on both port and sea days? If not, is there another option for a leisurely, indoor, non-buffet lunch on both port and sea days?

  5. Were you looking at an Essential Fare (cheapest, cruise only)? This new category does not allow the 5% discount for Venetian Society Sailings or the separate Venetian Society discount "earned" by the number of days you have sailed over 100 - 5 or 10%.

  6. On the Muse now for 2 legs. First leg - Tokyo to Seward - disposable plastic bottles were available for excursions. Second leg- Seward to Vancouver-  they delivered the reusable bottles we had previously gotten on the Nova to the suite and no disposable water bottles were at the gangway. The problem is that the Nova reusable bottles are heavy, much heavier than reusable bottles we have at home. As on the Nova, we kept/bought lighter disposable bottles to re-fill for hikes, walking tours, etc. If Silversea had warned us in advance, we could have brought light reusable bottles from home. Guess they will have to be on the packing list from now on!

  7. A TA who focuses on the luxury cruise market is, in our experience, much better than an in house cruise consultant, whether on Silversea or Seabourn. The TA has contacts at both lines far above a CC, who can sort out issues more quickly than dealing with either line directly (especially for air bookings and problems like canceled cruises, muffed transfers, etc). Also, they provide OBC (in addition to that provided by the line) and/or a rebate. I would never go back to dealing with either cruise line directly!

  8. On the Muse now. We were told it is completely full (at least for the leg from Tokyo to Seward). Trying to eat around 8 pm (2 people)  we were turned away from Atlantide multiple times and had to eat in Indochine (which has been dreadful this cruise). Mentioned the issue in the mid-cruise comments and Igor, the restaurant manager, told us, essentially, that we needed to make  reservations elsewhere if we want to eat around 8. If we want to eat at Atlantide we have to eat earlier.

Last night we arrived at 7:15, waited in line for about 10 minutes and got one of the last tables for 2. It was near the door and we watched couples being turned away or waiting until almost 9 to be seated.

We  were on the Muse last year for a fully booked cruise and never experienced this. Indeed, in over 350 days on Silversea we've never experienced this.

  9. On the Muse now and the piano player in Dolce Vita is so bad we (and many others) sat in the very bright side (usually uninhabited after dinner) to lessen the impact. That said, the Trio has been quite good. Haven't checked out Silver Note or the guitarist yet.

  10. Thanks for your thread! We're on the same back to back. We've had multiple cruises on the Muse and are excited about this itinerary.

For us this was a very smooth embarkation process.  We're DtD, but when we heard the hotel was in Yokohama we canceled and, for slightly less than the price Silversea was charging us, were able to book a room at the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo and private transfers. We were on the ship less than 40 minutes after leaving the hotel and have had a lovely first day. Looking forward to a great cruise!

  11. At least in the US, Blacklane has not contacted us the day before to confirm. The ride is listed as confirmed in the app once you book it. Generally, an hour or 2 before pick up, we get a text giving us the name of the driver and his number.

  12. We were in 8072 on the Nova - aft center suite, a Medallion. The view was great and the balcony was large -and very deep. Standing at or close to the railing you had 180 degree view, no obstructions. As the balcony was very deep, in the room your view was narrower (see below)

  13. Since covid they are not always mailed. Tags were mailed to us for our Jan cruise on the Nova, but not for our upcoming May 1 cruise on the Muse (or any of our other post-covid cruises). We were told to get them at the pier (or the Silversea hotel if staying there). I'm not aware of any option to print them.

You are aware that many of the 210 sq ft cabins have been combined to make 350 to 450 sq ft cabins?? The vast number of cabins are now "suites". How do the rates compare to the new rates with the recent fare increases on the other luxury lines.

I compared a couple of 2025 itineraries on Silversea in a  Silver Suite (our usual choice)  to the Cystal Symphony Junior Penthouse (which seems to be comparable, although smaller). Despite thd SS price increases, the Crystal Junior Penthouse is about $500 more per person per night-  if you pay in full at booking  - otherwise about $700 more pp per night.

  15. On our Nova cruise we were told by the HD that they do not stock Pellegrino, Perrier, etc. for environmental reasons. I said I thought that should be made clear, in advance, to long time cruisers who expect it. He repeated the policy. However, the next day our butler told us she had "permission" to give us Pellegrino in the room. She kept our fridge stocked for the rest of the cruise, in part by "hiding" extra bottles in our bar cabinet.

When we asked for Pellegrino in the dining rooms or bars we were told the house made sparkling water was the only option.

Hopefully, on our upcoming Muse cruise Pellegrino will be available.

  16. Silversea has and uses both of our email addresses. The single email had a link that  included only 2 rides total. Maybe because we live in the US? Or perhaps because our upcoming cruise leaves from Tokyo?
