  1. Be sure you also bring a letter from case worker that you can travel out of your county on a cruise along with the dates. For the passport you will also need a letter from your case worker that you are authorized to apply for the passport and your anticipated travel dates and locations. You will also need to send a copy of the case workers photo ID.

  2. Really? No milk in the fridge?? Yikes, I was planning on it for my little one!

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

On our last cruise (Dec) - I order 10 milks at a time via Room Service and kept then in the refridgerator - with no issues.

  3. Why do I recall the Splendor having a childrens buffet - with specific "kids" food? Our girls ate off the buffet; fruits/pancakes/cerials, milk (lots of milk); and usually ate a combo at dinner of the "adult" menu and the childrens menu.. They would make us pasta with no sauce -- just ask for what your looking for.

  4. We used Ronys Tours. All non cruise line tours have to wait outside the security gate. I was told I could walk the road to the gate, 5-10 minutes, or get a cab for $3.00pp. My Mom uses a transport chair. I don't think even without the chair the walk would have been fun. Our drive for the day was excellent, saw the island, Iguanas, flea market and a lot of sights. Caution, watch out for the "white lighting" at the flea market..Wooooo

A friend went to the beach at Mahogany and said he didn't need sunscreen. Just jump in the water and rub the water all over yourself. Presto, instant coverage. Gross.

When you did the 5-10 min walk - when you left the shopping area - did you go right or left to get to the street?

  5. I just posted the following on another thread concerning babies on board. While it will upset some, have a read:

    ______________________________________________________________

Okay, I'm going to upset a lot of people with my opinion:

I would never bring a child on a ship who is not ambulatory and who does not have basic speaking / language comprehension ability. Crying in public or diapers in a pool do not concern me, but evacuation does.

    Why?

The unthinkable, think of Costa Concordia, or a similar calamity that could strike the ship, and the need to evacuate quickly, sometimes not as you might imagine it during the muster drill.

How might you carry your baby if forced to climb down a "Jacobs" rope ladder down the side of the ship? You had best have a back harness to put your baby in. Never assume that you will always get into an assigned life boat. What if you have to enter the water before climbing on to a boat?

Yes the chances of this are very slim, but it is worthy of serious thought.

Otherwise, look up the names Titanic (obvious), Empress of Ireland, Morrow Castle, Andrea Doria, Prinsendam, Oceanos, Estonia, Sun Vista, Achille Lauro, and the list goes on and on. On some of these babies, not to mention entire families were lost. On some, all were saved, but to put a baby through that?

Never assume that in a calamitous situation that other passengers, many in a panic, or the crew will give you priority over others. Sad, but true.

Sorry to take a different tack on this, but I feel it should be mentioned.

While I don't agree with you - you do raise a good point - to think about and plan for. When I travel with my children - car/auto/plane - I know or think I know, what I would do in the case of an emergency. I can say, I need to have my game plan for cruising with the girls and the lifeboat. So thank you for that - but like others, I would never travel without my girls again.

  6. My youngest had just turned 2 when we first cruised. We use a white noise machine in his room at home and made sure to bring that with us. If you don't use one at home, you might want to introduce it. As soon as we turned it on in our cabin and put the lights out, he would settle down knowing that familiar noise even though the surroundings were unfamiliar.

We stocked up on cartons of milk from Lido in the morning and kept them in our cabin fridge. If we needed more and they weren't out, we asked at the dessert station (where the milk was in the morning) and they were always happy to run back and get us some.

We mostly ate in the buffet as the dining room meals took too long for our little guy. It was a vacation for me not having to cook or cleanup for anyone, so buffet food was fine by me.

Our son did not like crib they provided, but easily slept between us in the bed. That even worked for naps (with the life saving white noise machine).

We spent a lot of time walking around the open air decks with him in the stroller just enjoying the view.

Have fun! I could never leave my young kids home (not that they would let me--heck it's a treat if I go grocery shopping alone) and love our family vacations.

We went last year with our 2 yr old twin girls -- go with the flow is all I can say -- we did early dining - be prepared to walk him around. we watched the movies on the deck - they now need popcorn when ever they watch a movie ;-). I ordered 10-15 cartons of milk from room service - they had no issues with it - didn't blink an eye when I called down.

  7. I am so glad this was happily resolved for you and your Fiance. I want to say that you handled this inquiry with grace and dignity - as did the CC responders. It isn't too often when we see a poster taking the high road to not immediate bash - you came here - posted your issue and never took to "slander"..

Koodoos to you - and THANK YOU! Congratulations!

  8. My granddaughter is coming on the cruise with her dad mom can't come because of new baby. She is asking me for a list of what she needs to pack . What do most of you bring. I figure a couple of bathing suits and coverup

A dressy dress for formal night and then just clothes for hanging around ship and a few not too fancy dresses for the other nights Shoes. What are good non skid for decks

    Any other suggestions.

    Please.

    Thanks

we went in December with twin 3yo - i brought multiple swimsuits - a bigger T for the coverup - sandles (they lived in them) - I brought water shoes - they never used them. they had some dresses for MDR dining room; - but also put them in shorts and T's for the ports. Only bring a few pairs of socks - (essentially, for embarkation/debarkation) -- i brought a couple of jammies - (they were in diapers and leaked) -- I brought swim diapers also for the beach - other than that -- don't forget the stuffed animal friends and blankies if they are attached AND a lot of Wipes - we live with them!) (and an extra binky - if still attached to it!).

  9. Do you have to pre-book fosters or are there drivers at the pier from fosters?

Can you take a cab from pier and go to Fosters? I thought I read you can rent a chair for 5.00, is this correct?

They do not make it easy at this port to get a taxi - well, it is quite easy - but they really take you to the bank -- they wanted 40 usd to go about 12 min down the road. I understand you can walk down the huge hill (which they tell you you can't - and grab a taxi there - but that I heard this second hand)

  10. I do this as well. I usually end up bringing about half back and sticking it into the bank for any credit card charges I made, but it is nice to have the cash on hand if needed.

same here -- Also we don't always do cruise ship excursions, so some of the places we go, only take cash -- (ie; Costa Maya)

  11. The amount of time you end up getting at Islands of Adventure isn't enough to do alot of rides, especially if the lines are long. I agree with the above poster-take a vacation to orlando someday and do it then.

As for Atlantis, it's fun and there are tons of water slides and a neat (not so) lazy river, but what carnival charges for the few hours you get to enjoy them is outrageous. I don't totally blame carnival, I'm sure it's what Atlantis is charging them these days. You'd do better booking a room for the day at the comfort suites across the street. It's cheaper, and you get free access to Atlantis facilities. Since the ship is docked from 11am to 11pm (I think), that will get you more time at the water park than the excursion.

    Hope this helps!

    Great Advice --
