  1. This is what CBS New York Has:

    http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2018/01/05/cruise-through-storm/

Let hope my January 19, 2018 Cruise on the Breakaway is not this bad...

I was on this cruise and had to chuckle a little when watching this video. At 00:43 when commentator says ”the ship started leaking” - that is a video of a balcony cabin bathroom floor. The person mopping up floor must have just taken a shower while the boat was listing or rocking a little bit. The same thing happened to me. I didn’t realize there wasn’t a lip around the shower floor (like other ships I had been on) to catch the water. I’m pretty blind without my glasses, lol. The drain was on the port side of the shower but ship was leaning to starboard side so all of the water ran under the shower door. All of that water rolling around is from their shower.

I didn’t encounter any of the water running down walls or ceilings but then again, I didn’t walk around ship in middle of night when we were listing to look for it either. Didn’t walk ship until about 11am after I woke up. By that time crew must have already had water cleaned up. Sure some of the carpets were wet but ship wasn’t “wrecked” and I didn’t see any interior damage either.

That being said, I’m sure it was pretty traumatic for those passengers whose balcony doors failed. I probably would have slept in atrium too.

  2. Just off the ship, cannot believe we are finally on land... and we are seasoned cruisers. This was a cruise from hell.

Matko Candrlic was was our captain. Stay as far away as possible from this ship for as long as he is in charge. How dare he knowingly takes us right into a cyclone, endangiring our lives!!! Families with crying children, scared disabled, sick passengers on the floor, tilted, jerking and rocking ship, broken windows and balconies, howling wind inside, water filling public spaces and cabins, passengers and staff injured, code ‘alpha’ in the middle of the night, no announcements until captain is pressed to make them, no ownership from the management, no attention to passengers... the list can go on and on. The worst decisions from the management from day 1 and all throuout the cruse.

And to all of you, self-appointed judges and ‘how bad can it be’ commentators - talk to the passengers before making your sarcastic remarks! Hope you never have to live through anything like this.

After having time to reflect and speak to many people during disembarkation, I’ve come to the realization that I was on the”best” side of the ship & that’s why I felt safer than some of the other posters and fellow passengers.

I was on the starboard side of ship, midship deck 10. Most passengers I spoke to who were more fearful and had water issues/damage were on the port side of ship. Port side had the steady winds battering their balconies, starboard side (my side) was protected by the ship so winds weren’t quite as harsh. The strong winds were also breaking the seals on some balcony doors allowing water to enter their cabins which would indeed be pretty scary and maybe where reports of “ship taking on water” may have come from? After all, the wind was most likely pushing the waves into that side of the ship - Just speculating. The ship was listing from port (high side) to starboard (low side).

Since I couldn’t see the ocean out of my balcony window (because of so much sea spray) it allowed me to be more relaxed about our situation.

Also, I ran in to a nice couple in Wasabi during disembarkation. They said the “code alpha” was for their family. Their brother-in-law was in congestive heart failure (had issues prior to cruise) and commended medical staff for saving his life. They said sometimes things work out for the best. They happened to be in BIL’s cabin because they had water in their port side balcony cabin. They heard him get up in middle of night and knew he was in distress. Medical staff said 5 more minutes and he wouldn’t have made it.

I definitely agree with Nybluenblue2 that an announcement from the Captain should have been made much sooner. I commented several times to my DH about that while we were going through the storm but chalked it up to the fact he had more important things to do at the moment like steer the ship :o.

  3. Ship is pulling into dock now. We arrived earlier than anticipated.

Ocean was much calmer last night. Hope all those cruising the BA next have a wonderful time!

There is some exterior damage. For those of you who have thermal spa package, I’m sure you will love it as much as my DH & I did! Just a heads up - the hot tub and pool in spa were emptied yesterday and still empty as of noon today. Probably because of sea conditions.

  4. I spoke with a woman in the elevator who said there were 2 haven suite balcony doors that blew out in foward of ship. She is in a Haven suite. She also said some outdoor handrails & dividers also blew off on deck 16. I can’t visually verify because I’m obviously not allowed outside. She was going to deck 16 fwiw.

I also spoke with woman who’s balcony door seal failed and flooded her cabin on deck 9. She said it also flooded about 5 or 6 other cabins. Felt bad for here, real bummer but at least everyone is safe.

  5. I walked ship (interior only) and didn’t see any damage. Floors a little wet on deck 6, 7 & 8 where doors open outside to walk around ship but that’s only problem I’ve seen. The usual towels by doors to keep water out (not from flooding but from sea spray). From what I’ve seen last night and today - ship is in great condition for next cruise!

Sitting in breakaway theater now waiting for deal or no deal to start. I’ll try to answer questions as I can.

I’d like to add that because I read cruise critic post when Anthem was in similar ocean conditions, I felt very safe and knew some listing was normal in these conditions. Helped easy my anxiety - Thank you cruise critic! Knowledge is power.

  6. Thanks Davy Jones - we’re still rock-n-rollin! But I’ll take rock-n-rollin over listing any day! Feel very safe on this ship.

Captain just came on loudspeaker- “We’re north of Cape Hatteras. Measuring high winds and sea levels are rising. Storm is heading north north east and so are we. ETA to New York is unknown as we navigate storm. Speed and course have been adjusted to make best possible travel. Outside decks are still off limits.”

Going to enjoy the day’s activity. I’ll try to post later.

  7. Captain just came on loudspeaker and said (I’m paraphrasing) worst part of storm is behind us. Will give us another update in morning.

Ship is almost leveled out now (only very slight listing). Still windy but not nearly as bad as earlier. I can see ocean out of balcony window again, yay - sea spray has died down.

Gonna try to get some rest, pretty tired. Peace out.

  8. Currently on BA. Weather on cabin TV says wind speed is 45.2 knots & wave height is 14.8’. Ship is listing a bit but feel safe in captain’s ability to navigate storm. Wave height was 21’ a few hours ago but wind was only around 35 knots at that time so wind speed has picked up. Map shows we are off coast of North Carolina.

Outdoor areas were closed by 8pm & there was a note in cabin telling us to stay off balcony until further notice when DH & I got back from dinner.

We have deck 10 midship balcony cabin and haven’t lost deck furniture yet so that’s good news. Can only see sea spray from balcony window not ocean.

  9. Hi everyone,

BOA received both of my letters (one Friday morning & one this morning) and I just received an e-mail from BOA:

    "Dear Ms. XXXXX,

While transitioning from NCL Compass Rewards to NCL WorldPoints, a system error caused a miscalculation in final Compass Reward balance for a population of cardholders. The file has been reprocessed indicating your final Compass Reward point balance is 1,005. You will be receiving additional Compass Reward certificates in the next 7-10 business days.

We appreciate your business and apologize for any inconvenience this error has caused."

Looks like they are taking care of this problem ASAP. Just to recap, I sent my information to the Reward Resolution address below on Wednesday, February 4th via certified mail.

    NCL Compass Reward Resolution

    NC1-022-17-01

    210 N Tyron St

    Charlotte, NC 28255

  10. Good news. One of my 2 letters has arrived! Here's my USPS tracking # 7003 3110 0006 1264 6859 if you're playing along at home :). I sent it via "certified mail" on Feb 4th to:

    NCL Compass Reward Resolution

    NC1-022-17-01

    201 North Tyron Street

    Charlotte, NC 28255

Of course, I don't know if it arrived at the right place. I just know someone signed for it :o. But I do feel pretty confident it got to BOA because it appears the 28255 zipcode is special to BOA. FWIW

  11. If things don't get corrected by March 31, then I think we should let NCL/BOA know that we are all going to the media in our areas for some consumer action spots on local TV stations (and if enough local stations are contacted, nationial stations may address this). I think that will be enough to get this corrected!

I would start blogging on the national media blogs, forget local. That would get the ball rolling MUCH faster and also inform those who don't know about the problem without the need for a class action. I would be surprised if the media didn't pick up on this story right away. Especially with all of the bad press the financial institutions are receiving right now because of how they may have spent the taxpayers bailout money. Just my .02...

  12. ::::sigh:::: looks like I have to call too. I hope they figure out a way to straighten this out.

Yeah, they told me they did. You have to send your complaint to the address they give you and wait 4-6 weeks for their response .

  13. Ok, went to USPS.com to look up zipcode in the address. Thought maybe it would list the streets associated with 28255 zipcode. The "recommended link" lead me to this:

    exclaimation.gif

Cities in a ZIP Code may be referred to by more than one name or spelling. These results indicate the actual city name. ("Not Acceptable" city names are listed for your reference only -— do not use.)

Actual City name in 28255 (UNIQUE) question_trans.gif

    CHARLOTTE, NCspacer.gif

    Not Acceptable

    BANK OF AMERICA, NC

    spacer.gifN C NATL BANK, NC

When I clicked on the "?" after the word unique it stated, "unique zipcode is used for specific company or organization." I'm not so nervous about sending my info yesterday if the street name may or may not be wrong. I'm hoping that the post office will deliver to the zipcode (instead of street) and it will get to BOA.

  14. Is this the final address ?? or are we still unsure?

    NCL Compass Rewards Resolution

    NC1-022-1701

    201 N. Tryon Street

    Charlotte, NC 28255

NCL rep told me it was Tyron St. Someone who lives in NC seems to think there is no Tyron St but they are aware of a Tryon St where BOA is located. I think it may still be up in the air? I sent my info out yesterday to Tyron St as advised by NCL (via USPS certified mail) so I'll let you know when/ if it gets there.

  15. Oh nooooo, I just thought of something. NCL keeps giving out Tyron St as the address and if it is really Tryon St I wonder who will be getting them? The reason I am so concerned is because we were told by NCL to send our account #, copies of our statements, etc. Who ever receives them at Tyron St will receive everyone's credit card #'s, addresses, etc.

  16. I just got to thinking...

    1. If the correct address is 201 Tryon St (instead of Tyron like NCL has been telling us)
    2. and that is in fact the BOA building
    3. then the Compass Reward information wasn't really sent to a third party (like they have been telling us) but stayed with BOA the whole time.

Seems like a lot of untruths being told by BOTH companies. Also, by giving out the wrong address (and wrong certificates), it buys them some time before they have to make the full payout that we are all entitled to under their program.

...Or it may just be a series of unfortunate circumstances ?

  17. Hey, does anyone think that MAYBE they are mailing out all the upgrade certificates seperately from all the $500 certificates, which they may have deducted from the total points before the upgrades were mailed........? I am really trying to give NCL?BOA the benefit of the doubt here. They couldn't have screwed this up with most of us that badly, could they?

Wishful thinking c breeze. I had exactly the same thought so I asked the woman from NCL that very question and she said "final certificates" means that's all they are sending. That's when she told me I had to send my complaint to the "NCL Compass Rewards Resolution" center. I'm really hoping she is wrong.

  18. Well, this is not the case with me... I had 893 point mid December, (and I know I was over 1,000 by the end of the year) and the letter they send says my final points balance as of December 31 was 113 Compass Reward points!

c breeze, looks like it happened to you too. Count up your purchases from the day after the closing date on your Dec statement through December 31st. Don't forget to account for any credits/ returns that occured during this time period. Multiply that number by 3% and I'd be willing to be that it comes to 113 points. That's what happened to me too. They completely forgot to account for the rest of my points that I accumulated the rest of the year.

  19. She told me I had to send a letter to:

    NCL Compass Reward Resolution

    NC1-022-17-01

    102 North Tyron Street

    Charlotte, NC 28255

Sorry everyone, I waited too long and wasn't able to edit the address from my previous post. The correct address, as stated by noreddye, should be:

    NCL Compass Reward Resolution

    NC1-022-17-01

    201 North Tyron Street

    Charlotte, NC 28255

  20. I just got off the phone with NCL and they gave me a slightly different address:

    NCL Compass Reward Resolution

    NC1-022-17-01

    201 North Tyron Street

    Charlotte, NC 28255

Thanks noreddye, you are correct. It should be 201 NOT 102. Sorry about that, I was in a hurry to get to the post office to send my info via certified mail. I'll make the correction above so no one accidently sends it to the wrong address.

  21. Ok, went to the mailbox today and saw BOA envelopes and thought yeah!!!! Then opened first envelope (my account) and I only received (1) 100 point, one category certificate. Then opened the 2nd envelope (my husbands account) and there were only (3) 100 point, one category certificates. What?!?

    Here's the problem:

My December statement said I had 1,000 compass reward points (which would = (2) 500 point certificates). My husband's December statement said he had 802 compass reward points (which would = (1) 500 & (3) 100 point certificates). Math doesn't add up. I called the # on the back of the compass reward certificates. They sent me to BOA. BOA sent me to World Points (and I specifically told her I wanted Compass Rewards, not World Points). I was then sent back to BOA... no joke. Then I called phone # on the "Final Compass Reward Certificate" letter (1-866-234-0292) and just pressed #1 because I had just spent about an hour on the phone by this time and was pretty fed up. This time the woman was very nice and helpful. She told me I had to send a letter to:

    NCL Compass Reward Resolution

    NC1-022-17-01

    102 North Tyron Street

    Charlotte, NC 28255

with a copy of my cc statement that listed my compass reward points, a copy of the letter I just received and anything else that might help them figure this out.

After trying to figure out why my certificates were so screwed up, it dawned on me that they only gave me certificates for my purchases from December 15th - 31st (from the end of my December statement to Dec 31st). My card had $177 in purchases x 3% = 5 points and they gave me (1) 100 point category upgrade certificate and my husband had $7,121 in purchases x 3% = 216 points and he got (3) 100 point certificates. I was bummed about my husband's certificates because I only put that much on that card (I have other cards that accumulate points) at the end of the year to get a 2nd 500 point certificate. Now we'll end up with (6) 100 point certificates from his account.

Now that I figured out what probably happened I called NCL back (1-866-234-0292 then pressed #1) and spoke with someone different this time. I explained what I think happened and thought maybe it would be a good idea if she could contact someone in the Compass Reward dept and let them know what I found out. Thinking it could alleviate problems down the line for other customers, NCL operators, BOA operators, & Compass Reward operators, etc. I figured if it happened to me, it will probably happen to someone else and wouldn't it be great for the customer to get an answer at the first place they call. She told me there was NO WAY to spread the word and the Compass Reward dept is a third party and there is No WAY to contact them except by mail. I was in complete shock. Really, there is no way to get the word out?!?! No way to communicate with anyone else even within NCL?!?! I found that to be very surprising.

If you do get certificates in the mail and you think you should have a different amount, check your purchases from your December 2008 statement to December 31st. Best of luck to everyone!
