  1. Hi. We are considering renting a car to explore Moorea. We are visiting Moorea from the Paul Gauguin and will have two days to visit.

Is it possible to rent a car for 2 days and leave it parked overnight near where the cruise tenders drop off?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Hi:  We have decided to go to Coco Beach for our second day in Moorea.  Does the ship still change it's anchorage in Moorea?  When we went the first time, it alternated bays.  Also, I suspect taxi is the best way to get there.  Any idea on how long this would take and the approximate cost?

    Thank you in advance.

  3. Hello. I enjoy sailing with NCL but will only sail with Haven cabins. Yes, I've been spoiled. I would love to sail with NCL in the winter but the prices of Haven cabins have skyrocketed out of our reach. We are Canadian so we need to add 30% (ish) to the current prices. The Canadian at Par doesn't work because it removes all of the 'Free' items like the drink package so once we add them back in at US$, the price gap narrows.

Here is my frustration. They prices are inflated. The cabins sit empty and then they offer an upsell for cheaper than if someone booked them directly in the first place. I could pay this huge price while others have paid much cheaper. I can't play the game as I wouldn't be happy in a cabin outside of the Haven. I would much rather NCL charge an equitable price for the cabin and allow them fill like every other cabin. Everyone just waits them out now.

Got that off my chest. I feel better now.

  4. We've also moved over to RCCL Grand Suite on the Oasis. I'll keep an eye on NCL but won't budge unless the prices are similar to what we are shelling out for a Grand Suite. It's too bad. Our last couple of cruises were in Haven suites. We were NCL coverts and intended to stay with NCL because of the suite experience. We felt the prices were appropriate for the value we received. We don't mind shelling out extra for a great experience but we also don't like being taken advantage of as consumers. Moving our money elsewhere until NCL brings their prices back to reflect their value.

We've traveled luxury lines in the past loved the inclusive, casualness of them but they are not the best for families with active kids. We need to stay with mass market lines for now. Keeping my fingers crossed that NCL rejigs their prices before final payment is due with RCCL.[emoji26]

  5. On our Epic cruise a few weeks ago, a group of 5 teens snuck into the Haven and hung out in the hottub and sauna for an hour. The Haven wasn't busy so I didn't mention it. I figured they were getting their kicks and didn't want to be their killjoy. The Haven staff knew they were crashing and just avoided offering them drinks. If the seats were limited or if their time there was extensive, I would have piped up but I let them have their fun. In our previous cruise, I also witnessed famillies bringing in their mothers that were in standard cabins. It does happen.

  6. For the forward facing Haven Suites, the balconies are actually on the side. The bedroom has a "picture window" that faces forward. With the exception of deck 13, the balconies have a slight overhead cut accross the balcony. Deck 13 balconies are more enclosed.

CC Member Bear 3412 put together a great speadsheet on the Breakaway, which has similar cabins, here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AkRUeqCmOMnGdFZWTVVzZndrc0NkN1N0TGpZb2ZYU2c&single=true&gid=0&output=html

Make sure you click on the visual aid link to see photos of the cabin and balcony photos.

That is so helpful! Thank you. I think we are better to save longer and get the 2bdr villa....sigh.

  7. Hi:

We have sailed the Epic twice in the 2bdr. Haven Courtyard Villa. We enjoyed having our cabin located right in the Haven area as we would frequently go between our room and the pool, lounge and restaurant. Also we could watch our daughter run back to the cabin and come back if she forgot something.

On the Getaway, we noticed that a lot of the Haven cabins are not actually located in the Haven. What is that like? For example, there are aft facing cabins. Is it inconvenient to head forward to the Haven all the time? Not sure how I feel about this. With the current pricing structure, we may not be able to afford a cabin located directly in the Haven.

Also, for any forward facing cabins, are the balconies enclosed or open? Are they windy?

    TIA.

  8. Hi:

As a family we have done Disney (Concierge), RCCL Freedom / Independence / Liberty (Grand Suites) and NCL Epic (2 bdr Haven Villa - twice).

My eight year old would pick NCL hands down and has asked to go back. We will probably be sailing the Getaway soon. She loves the kids clubs which is strange as she is very shy. She loved the water slides and the spider maze. The newer NCL ships offer more on deck activities than the Epic. She loved the Haven. She could always get in the pool and not have to worry about other people jumping on her or bumping into her. She totally loved the Entertainment.

As parents, we loved the extra space of the Haven suite. Don't under-estimate the value of having two bedrooms and two baths.

You can join others in the dining room if you wish. That is not our thing so we enjoy the ability to dine when we want and where we want. We just got off the Epic yesterday and had no issues picking a restaurant to try at the last minute. Even walked right in to Teppanyaki - which must have been a fluke.

We have done suites in all our cruises with our daughter and hands down, NCL has the best suite experience. Our daughter was spoiled rotten by having treats delivered to her by a doting NCL staff member. She liked having her own space and not having to pack up her stuffed animals every morning so that her bed could be transformed back into a couch or to put her bunk back into the ceiling. We liked being able to watch TV in the master or the living room without disturbing her. We could also come and go to the balcony as we pleased.

We can't go back to RCCL because of our NCL suite experience. I would recommend it without hesitation. As I mentioned, we got back last night from Epic and have spent the day picking our next cruise which will probably be the Getaway.

PS: Either way you choose, you'll have a fantastic time.

  9. Thanks for everyone's help it is appreciated. I have a new batch of questions for you about the EPIC. Thanks

1)What time generally do things like Blue Man, Impersonator show, Comedy show, Howling at the Moon, and Cirque start? Are there 2 shows or just 1 per night of the big shows? Is Blue Man every night?

2)When is the Latitudes past guest party? Is there the usual free drinks and apps?

3)Which self serve free beverages are there and is it only in the garden buffet?

4)Anywhere to get free coffee drinks such as lattes, cappucinos? Are they free in the MDRs?

5)What night is formal night on the 7 day Western Caribbean itin? Is it one or 2 nights? Is anyone really in tuxs?

6)Do they have "self serve" at disembarkation - where you carry off your own luggage and get to be the first off the ship? What time does that usual start?

7)What is the cost for the spa passes for the week or day? Is it worth it?

3 - They have lemonade, ice tea, mango/peach(?) water, strawberry/kiwi water for free. All very tasty. They are available at the buffet AND the outdoor grill area by the pool.

I have also attached a photo of the Room Service pizza ($5)

  10. Hi. Need some advice please. Currently have rooms booked for a precruise stay for March 1. We are two couples travelling. Please let me know which hotel you would pick and if the price is appropriate for each hotel.

Cambria Suites, new hotel in the Blue Lagoon area by the airport. $120 plus tax.

Miami Intercontinental, downtown, $218 plus tax.

We are trying to be spend conscious but don't mind spending extra if the value is there.

    Any advice is welcome.

    Thank you in advance.

  11. Hi.

We are coming into Cozumel in March on the NCL Epic. Can anyone tell me what pier the ship will dock at and what the taxi line will be like? I recall our RCCL cruise docked us in a place that had an unbearably long, hot taxi queue. We want to avoid that, if possible.

    TIA.

  12. We are considering bringing wine on our next cruise out of Miami. Please let me know the details of paying for the corkage charge. I know the price is $15 per bottle (750ml). When we go through the scanner, do we tell them ahead of time that we are carrying wine or wait for them to ask? How does the person collecting the fee know how many bottles you have? Is there a long line at the desk?

    Any details would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

  13. Please help me clarify this. We have OBC from NCL and an additional OBC from our TA.

Is the TA OBC considered refundable?

What order do they take the OBC from? For example, if I have refundable and non-refundable OBC and I buy a drink, where is the drink price deducted from?

    Thanks in advance!

  14. The things that I would like changed;

    1) All beverages included in the UBP - with NO blackout.

    2) The Haven cancellation policies and deposit amounts the same as regular cabins. Got caught with this earlier this year and lost a deposit on a cruise when I thought I was still in a penalty-free timeframe.

    3) Drop the Pizza delivery fee - petty.

    4) Better chair patrolling for chair hogs.

    5) Swap out the Blue Man Group with another show to keep things fresh.

    Thanks!

    (PS: I prefer Pepsi products....)
