  1. Thanks for all the help! And sorry for taking so long to respond...long week

We're probably sharing the 'extra' (4th) bag with warmer clothes, and then just leaving it alone during the cruise since weather is supposed to be better...then will try to find bags that fit into each other (or at least put the carry-ons into the larger ones).

Now the problem is another cruise that might happen 2 days after we're back from Australia  but that's for another thread hahaha

    Have a great weekend everyone!

  2. Hey everyone! Hope all is well :)

We are in the process of booking a 17 night around Australia in July and it's our first time there, second with Princess (the other was on the Pacific). Considering our entire trip will be a month long and the temperatures are supposed to range between 5 and 35 Celsius, 2 suitcases each would make our lives much easier...the 'problem' is we'll be 3 in an interior and I know there is no way of storing 6 bags in such cabin. :D

Is there a formal luggage storage we could use for half of them? I have read both that there isn't one and that housekeeping can help storing. We have never needed it so I'm confused :o

    Thanks for any help!

  3. YOu will need to find out whether you can separate one person out of the reservation.

Which airline flies Santiago to Papeete?

The limiting factor about papeete is that only two airlines fly into it. Even air NZ is now bode shared.

From what they told me on the phone any combination can be made. The 3rd person's flight was more expensive, so maybe they'll charge that. As far as I know LAN flies several times daily from Sao Paulo to Santiago and Santiago to Easter Island, then they fly once a week to Papeete from Easter Island.

  4. Thank you for the responses :) we'll check the costs for two oceanviews as well then ;)

Just one more question (since I'm already here :D ) : what do you guys think of the flight/transfer option? I would fly from Orlando (so probably get a flight to LAX separately) but my parents would come from Brazil. I think it wouldn't be worth for them (they can fly LAN via Santiago and Easter Island) because they don't have specific dates and can come earlier, but wouldn't it be best/safer if I do it with PG and fly in the day the cruise starts? I have classes on Thursday so was thinking about flying into LAX on Friday morning/afternoon (no class!) and getting the flight to Papeete that night.

  5. Hi Ricardo,

A third person in a fourth deck cabin is very tight but doable is you are used to sharing with the parents. My daughter has been sharing with us for many years and only gets her own if the single supp is reasonable. If you are used to sharing you will know how to make this work.

The third person In the B is very comfortable. In a B you are also close to the pool bar and pool deck which is great.

Anyway next time we are returning to the 4th deck.

    Emdee,

    Thanks for the response!

It seems to me (from pictures and the little plan on the website) that cats F-C are smaller (at least the sitting area/my sleeping area) than the staterooms we've been in the past, but I'll try to look further into it and compare. It does sound tempting to share the smaller one since this will be a 'quick' trip during my spring break  and we can use the price difference on flights, tours, etc. What I mean is that for this trip anything would be a 'bonus' since we weren't originally planning something so cool and different for us. Needless to say I'm excited :D

    Merry Christmas!

  6. Didn't want to start a thread and found this...

We are considering PG for a cruise in March and I just called to ask a few questions and was told the 3rd person only pays taxes ($170) and air (if needed). I was surprised so decided to stop by and ask a couple questions :D

    1. The 3rd person would still be 'all inclusive' right? Is there an age limit for it? I'll be 21 by then and started to wonder if the cabin will be too tight given the price. I've stayed in the same cabin with my parents though and wouldn't mind sharing some space for that price :p It's supposed to be a family trip, after all ;)

    2. Would it be worth paying some $2000 for each 1st and 2nd passengers and get a cat B for the extra space? One could 'consider' this difference as the price for the 3rd, but I'm not sure if the extra square footage would be worth the cost...any insights?

    Thanks in advance!

  7. I'm not sure how I feel about the design - I do agree we lack some modern vessels with traditional looks (Disney is the only one that has tried) but I also feel like it's different, which is always cool.

It reminds me a lot this video (

) from Fincantieri that is a couple years old - I kept thinking the new Carnival ships (that they haven't released anything yet) would be like the one it shows but the MSC renderings remind me of it too (look aft!). Anyways, I see a new pattern coming up (after the to me similar Royal Princess/NCL Breakaway/RCL Quantum/Mein Schiff 3) that include these and Aida Prima (somehow following Oasis)...

I can tell you as someone training to be a naval architect that these ships will be perfectly stable, as there are ludicrously extensive regulations they have to meet. The correct calculations will have been done long before the steel is even cut. Simply put, stability has nothing to do with the height of the superstructure, but with centres of gravity and other things such as metacentric height.

I must say though, that these ships look very different, quite refreshing compared to what most cruise lines have been putting out recently

    Hi littlesteelo!

It just caught my attention that you are studying naval architecture - that's great! Where are you studying it? I'm currently a Mechanical Engineering major but am really inclined to do a masters in Naval Engineering!

  8. She loves it. Sorority life, just leased a beautiful house with three other friends so is definately loving the college life. A friend of hers and sorority sister passed tragically this year (I am sure you heard #brookestrong) so was quite a sad year for the school in general I think. Glad to see you enjoy all that has been afforded to you. Best of luck to you!

Yes I've heard of it and know it was an impact for everyone, but at the same time the community proved how strong it is. A little over a year ago we had a shooting in one of the dorms and the whole school worked together to overcome it...no one (besides the shooter) got hurt. It was another example of how everyone's attitudes towards the crazy people out there (and those can be anywhere, sadly) make a difference.

I'm glad she's enjoying her time and thank you for the great wishes :)

  9. Thanks, Rico!

I just found your excellent review and photos!

I am enjoying them so much!

Glad I can inform/entertain even a year later :)

My daughter is at UCF for nurse anesthesia. Small world. She is just finishing up her freshman year :). So enjoying your review

That's cool! How does she like it? I've been there for 3 semesters now...time flies  I'm not sure if I'm still a sophomore or will be a junior next semester (because I transferred and had incoming credits from high school), but it's been great. Glad you're enjoying the review!

  10. Hi Rico! How's school? We are planning on either doing the Explorer reposition in late 2015 or Quantum in May. Just have to wait for the itinerary and pricing.

    Jo

    Hey Jo!

    How is everything? Ian?

School is...busy  but very good; started my first engineering classes this semester and should be all engineering (and marketing for my minor) from now on. Thank God no more gen ed courses :D

I started thinking about the last portion of the rep (if it is something like Dubai - Shanghai) and then the first cruise to Korea/Japan - I was just in Japan for 10 days with my father in December and was amazed by every aspect of the country - can't wait to be back. That all would depend on dates for school, though...we'll see!

Looks like we'll miss you guys by a few days in Barcelona...enjoy your TA

  11. Thank you for the responses!

I'm glad we found an alternative - the surgery will take place next tuesday (04/22) and my parents will go back to Brazil earlier instead (they're in Florida, where I live, and will be in Brazil for 6 days before heading to BCN).

Anyways, I'm sure everything will go smoothly and the three of us will be boarding as planned. Life is good

  12. Hey everyone how are you doing?

I have a question that I'll contact Seabourn about tomorrow but wanted to see if anyone knows the answer. Any help would be great to make us calmer.

We are boarding the Quest in just over two weeks (April 29th in Barcelona) but just found out my grandfather will have to do a somehow 'delicate' surgery on the same day. We know there are lots of logistics involved, especially so close to embarkation date, so we were thinking that maybe only my mother should stay home (in Brazil) for two extra days and meet us on our first stop in Tangier.

What would be Seabourn's policy on this? Can my father and I board in Barcelona on the 29th and my mother join us in Tangier or even in Portugal the following day?

    Thanks :)

  13. Thank you for the answers and sorry for taking long to respond...busy week

I guess I'll have to wait and see! I just find funny we'll be in Portugal next week and I'll be 'free' to have anything I want but when we're back there in May I won't (onboard, that is). Anyways, I already have my 'bright side' of these rules; no drinking means less calories to worry about...or more calories to consume with sweets, etc. ;):D

  14. I saw that the question has been responded a couple years ago and wanted to know if there are any 'fresh' news on it. We just booked our first trip with Seabourn and I'm 20.

Just like merryecho's daughter I am not planning on drinking large amounts but some wine during meals, for example, would be great.

    Any info appreciated, thanks!

  15. I just have to tell you this review blew me away. You are quite the story teller and photographer. I must go to the Maldives. Those pictures were amazing. That snake in the water freaked me out, tho! Hope you are having a great year in school and I can't wait for your next trip report.

Thank you for the words! The year has been pretty busy, but good...waking up at 5:30am every day is everything college students want, right?:o

  16. What is your next trip going to be? I ask' date=' because this would will be VERY hard to top!!! [/size']

Where do you want to go next???.....Have you any plans..??

In case you guys (and others) are still wondering...next adventure is already real! And guess what? We are going back to Asia!!! Cruise and flights are booked...now we only need everything else :p !

Anyways, stay tuned for another [this time maybe not live...sorry :o] review !

    -Rico :)

  17. Hey Rico!

Thanks so much, glad you found it. Hope the move went smooth!

I'm actually staying up here in New York for a few years but will eventually find my way down to Florida! I am still looking into UCF and also FIU now. Have you ever heard anything about FIU? But boy do I wish I was in Florida right now...if only I wasn't out-of-state. :(

I totally get you...went to NJ for first semester last year and ended up coming back to FL :o Yeah I've heard of FIU but UCF is better :D

Anyways, good luck in college and hope you make it here!

  18. We are in the process of making reservations at a Bed and Breakfast 1.5 blocks from the Columbus statue. [across road from Marina] After looking at the location vs price of hotels we decided we did not need the spas, pools or gyms. We were interested in a place that was well located and we could walk to the HO HO bus, metro and some attractions.

That sounds good (especially if it is your first time there) so you have easy access to the main points of interest. Like I mentioned wayy back when we arrived in BCN we only stayed "away" from the city center because we had been there multiple times and wanted to explore a new area, so I think you're right with your choice.

I hope the water works out for your guys; we actually never bring them onboard but decided to do it for the first time because all our tours mentioned they'd give us bottles but that we should bring extras just in case. I'm glad we had, for the most part, more than we needed...always better than less (memories of my near dehydration experience in Petra :D ).

  19. Rico, your review was amazing! I have taken most of today to read it, but SO WORTH it!

We loved the Mariner when we were on her in 2009-Mexican Riviera:) I am already trying to figure out an excuse to get to the Maldives after reading about your experience!

I'm glad it was worth reading it all; thanks for taking your time!

    The Maldives...ah, the Maldives...sigh. :D:cool:

What a terrific trip you have just experienced. Thank you for bringing us along. I visited the Maldives in 1977, long before you were born. So nice to see they are still beautiful.

Thank you for reading! Wow, I can only imagine the Maldives some 35 years ago; if it is so "unique" and not much explored right now, imagine back then! Awesome experience for you! :)

  20. Rico: I am leaving from Barcelona on a repo cruise for the Legend this October 30. Can you tell me a little more about the experience leaving from Barcelona?

Is it easy to carry on water and/or soda? I know officially this is not allowed. But, I have never been denied. [i have heard others have had difficulty with this in some ports]

What time are you able to board? I know documents give a certain time--but, often it opens earlier than this.

Is it practical to drop off luggage and walk the Las Ranblas on embarkation day?

    Any information will be appreciates.

We will arrive Sunday for a Wednesday cruise.

Sorry for taking so long...a lot to update myself on

The TA on the Legend!? That's great! Luca, our concierge for this cruise, will be on the Legend starting in Rome the cruise before yours, I think.

As far as I know bringing water is, in fact, allowed. I'm not sure if it works differently because I think your cruise ends in the US (like the alcohol age policy, that it is 21+ if it involves any US port, even if just arriving) or if we did it without knowing it was forbidden. I say I'm almost sure it is fine because we brought a 24-pack of water (don't judge, it was 15 days in desert weather!) that we bought at a supermarket in Barcelona, but put it in a carry-on that we "checked-in" as we were sure we couldn't take it with us through security, etc. Surprisingly there was a store inside the terminal selling packs of water and soda....so I'm still not completely sure :p

To be honest I'd say try it and the worst that can happen is you leaving the water at the port. It shouldn't be a problem, though, as our bottles of water passed through security and our stateroom attendant saw them all throughout the cruise and didn't mention anything.

We have boarded in BCN twice now and my advice is don't plan on walking from the port. It is not that far, but not close at all, and distance (especially walking) is very subjective. Where are you staying in BCN? I would say leave your bags at the hotel's concierge/front desk and go out for a walk or whatever you feel like doing and then come back to the hotel to get the luggage and head to the port. Both times we headed to the port at around 12:30, 1pm and the process was pretty fast (despite the large number of people).

    Hope that helped!

Ricardo, your review was absolutely fabulous! Thank you so much. :)

    Thanks again!

  21. Florida has a great sense of humour. It keeps calling itself "The Sunshine State" but every time we're here, this is the weather:

    IMG_0304.JPG

    Ha ha.

Thanks for the review and pics! I will have to represent the Floridians and defend our weather, though. We do have sunshine all the time; above those clouds there is always sunshine :D

Ok...maybe they should change it to "The Shy Sunshine State" heheh
