  1. Shantilly,

I have taken many cruises by myself and I love it.  I have taken one cruise out of Galveston.  I came in the night before (generally the way I do things, if at all possible) and stayed at a hotel.  To be honest, Galveston is not my favorite port.  I found a hotel that had a free shuttle to and from the airport (sorry can't remember which hotel) The day of the cruise, I took the shuttle back to the airport and had them drop me at baggage claim and caught a shuttle that would take me to the port.  I didn't want to rent a car.

What cruise ship are you going on?  I love traveling by myself and you will be also!

  2. I was on the Triumph in January on the Lido Deck in a balcony however the last day of the trip, I was looking at the pictures and a crew member came thru the door from the crew area and there was a major sewer smell. I could not smell it thru the passenger area. However on debarkation day, I woke up to a very strong sewer smell in my cabin. I went to the bathroom and my toilet would not flush at all. I went to breakfast and came back and the smell was gone and my toilet was flushed. I have been on many Carnival and other cruise line ships and have never had this issue until now.

  3. The "road to Hana" is NOT a "must do"....it's a full day, and a great way to "kill time", but there is so much more in Maui to see and do. Save this for a land vacation!

Thanks so very much! That was exactly what I was wondering. This is my first trip to Hawaii and I want to see as much as possible. I may save that one for my next trip! :D

  4. I am taking my first trip to Hawaii and am looking to take a Helicopter tour, and will be on the POA. I am looking at Blue Hawaiian and the island of Kauai. It offers an AM and PM trip, which would be the best?

  5. Good for you. I've travelled solo to Barcelona twice in the past two years. I love that city. Feb 2012 I went to Paris by myself for 9 days and had a wonderful time. -- There is so much to see! And, May 2012 I spent 5 days in Valencia and 9 days in Barcelona. I'll be back in June 2013 after a rare (for me) non-solo cruise from Southampton to Barcelona. My sister will be with me on the cruise but will only stay a couple of days in Barca after the cruise. I'll be staying on for a week before I have to head back home (to work).

I'm busy planning my next solo vacation. It looks like it will be a Southern Caribbean cruise in late-Feb. I was thinking of spending a week in Florence but the cruise will provide more relaxation for me.

For, the OP, I endorse the "common sense" rule. And, listen to your gut. If something or some person seems odd or makes you uncomfortable, move along. Don't worry about manners or being polite - just find an exit.

I do like the idea of asking a crew member to find you an escort back to your room. -- It reminds me of the solution if you have someone following you in your car. Don't drive home - drive to a police station.

On my first solo cruise, I was a little nervous about being on my own since I am really shy but I loved it. I enjoyed doing what I wanted when I wanted. I met some cool people and had the best time. I have cruised with friends also and I enjoyed those too (ok to be honest I just love cruising) but it is kinda nice to do my own thing also.

  6. My only concern with cruising solo is safety. Normally when I cruise I'm sharing a room with someone, but since I'm not this time I'm a little uneasy.

For the women, have you ever had an issue with someone following you to your room or bothering you at all? And if you did, what did you do?

I have cruised solo twice and I do like it. I have had no issues with being bothered at all. I love to go up on the deck at night to watch the ocean and feel the sea on my face and never felt uncomfortable. It is like anything else, use common sense. Hopefully that helps

  7. Pizzeria is located above the cabin 8384-- you want to avoid cabins that may be under the kitchens of this area.

It has been reported many times that staying on this deck UNDER the pool area you hear scrapings of chairs. SOme people hear it--some others dont.

    SOrry you didnt know.

Next cruise please make sure your cabin is located between decks of cabin space and away frompublic areas.

Ok I have a question then being this is my first cruise how do you find a good room? How can you tell if it is under the kitchens or pools or whatever?
