  1. First time for us on RCI. I have several questions. I wonder if regulars might help

Deck 6.... is it noisy from deck below?

Dinner at 6.30........ what's the latest you can go in?

Can you book a table for 2 in the MDR?

Breakfast in the MDR... do you join others or can you have a table for 2

What other dining options are there in the evening?

I am sure more Q's will come to mind..... but thanks for now.

  2. Just off the QM2. Our first Cunard cruise. It took me a while to get used to the formality compared to Princess.

Staff are not as jovial on Cunard. They are obviously told to be absolutely respectful with not much room for fun. The captain is treated like God and his daily updates hold no humour whatsoever. Guests dress for dinner, whether formal or informal nights. Shorts after 6 are frowned upon. Everything is "proper", very British. Could be seen as "stuffy".

Initially I was disappointed and felt that Cunard was out dated and very over rated. However, we eventually relaxed. The service is good and the ship is very nice.

The shows/entertainment were OK. We saw Roy Walker, who was good.

Films were old and the planetarium shows were rubbish.

The talks were boring except for FW de Clerk who deserved his standing ovation.

Food in the Britannia was very good, the Kings Court was a bit of a circus with limited choice of food.

The other thing to consider is age. The guest seemed to be a lot older on the QM2.

So.... In summary the QM2 was good. The itinerary suited us.

HOWEVER..... A cruise to Asia on the Diamond Princess a couple of years ago was absolutely fantastic (not just good).

  3. Thank you, that's exactly what I wanted to know. Can you put a second choice request on the form? We have OBC and want to use that for excursions. We will go to the desk first. What time can we board the QM2 ?

  4. Hello, I notice to book excursions in advance you pay immediately by credit card. Any advice what best to do. We have OBC and would prefer to book on board but are afraid they may be booked up?

How do you book excursions on board? Can you book them on the TV as soon as you embark? Or if you have to book by form via the purser can we get forms in advance?

  5. I have also discovered that our cruise (booked as a Vantage fare months ago) is now being offered with a huge OBC. Any advice whether it's worth changing the booking and losing the Vantage fare status:confused:

  6. I feel so sorry for those new to Cunard that come on this forum looking for advice and guidance only to find such bickering and bitchy comments between those who are supposedly Cunard fans.

To stay on topic l would say that having sailed from Liverpool on a few occasions and in view of the fact that the Cunard building is now once again coming to life it's a no brainer that eventually we shall see Cunard sailings from this port again at some point in the future, it may justify the now longer transatlantic voyages.

    Just my opinion

    Best

    Judy

As a newbie to Cunard, I was reading with interest whilst thinking "I hope we don't get similar on our table!"

For the record,I would LOVE to sail to New York ( or Quebec) from that beautiful building in Liverpool.( Southampton is closer to us)

  7. We had c603 on our ventura cruise in May. See my previous posts re noise. The balcony was fab, bigger than most, partially covered. 603 is near the funnels and there is a droning noise. Didn't stop us sleeping though!. Other advice would be to study the map of your route and check the sun when choosing port or sb.

We LOVED the Ventura, the cabin, the food.... the lot!:D

  8. Good for you...

Not sure why this belongs in this thread, considering there are plenty of other threads on CC about whether balconies are "worth it". This is for people that feel that an obstructed view room may be worth it to cruise more often (since cruising to them is likely about much, much more than a 3 foot by 5 foot balcony, or being able to look out a window - since all of the other amenities and activities are the same, so they likely feel it's pointless to pay hundreds more?). This thread is for people wanting to get a better feel for what obstructed view rooms look like. Not balconies. =)

Sorry if I have upset you! I was merely sharing a photo of what I felt to be worth saving for. There is no need to be defensive. I am sure cabins of all shapes & sizes suit all the different types of people in this world. Each to their own I say.

  9. I'm a FORMER Princess employee, and I'm sure there are more of us formers out there. It is against company policy for current employees to post on these boards.

I'm glad to hear it as it would not present an objective view and an unbiased opinion.
