  1. I was screwed by a TA once and never again. I was looking at a cruise once and the TAs assistant put a hold for me on the cruise till I could confirm I wanted it (something like a 24 hour hold if I remember.) Well, I was waiting for a special to go into effect and that's why I didn't book it yet. I decided I wanted and she booked it for me the following day and guaranteed I would get the OBC from the special through the cruise line and her OBC she was offering. So in total $100 I would be getting. For a solo on an inside room, that's a nice amount.

I get my stateroom bill the final day of the cruise, no OBC. Went to the front desk of the ship before checking out and they wouldn't even talk to me. They said my TA had to talk to them. Called my TA while I was still in port standing next to the ship and she said she'd look into it. After numerous emails, it was because her TA put a hold on my room outside of the special that it disqualified me from getting the OBC. I fought with the TA and finally just gave up as she said all she could do is refund me the money personally and eat it herself and lose money on my booking. Since the TA was a co-workers mom, I didn't push that envelope but I never used her again.

I just don't get the fad with TAs in the Internet age. Just seems like too much of a pain if you have problems.

  2. Oh cool, im on the Dream on Dec 1 (9 days baby! lol), i hope they have it. Any idea what the cost was?

They have two levels. $40 is unlimited slow speed (like dial up supposedly) and $100 is unlimited high speed. I haven't heard what the actual speeds are though but I'm told the $40 is like browsing forums, reading stuff online, and the $100 would be like Facebook, uploading pictures, etc.

I'm on the Breeze in January and if they have it by then I may do the $40 so that I can do a day by day review of the cruise to post on here. I will add some pictures and if it takes 30 minutes to upload, I'll let it.

  3. I have read a lot of comments about solo traveling not being so bad. I have never done this. There has always been others (family, friends, SO) on a cruise with me. Now that I am single, the thought of taking a cruise by myself is a little scary.

It's not bad, 3 of my 4 past cruises I have done solo/single/alone. I have a semi-friendly personality. Kinda shy at first, but once I meet someone, I open up pretty easily. I haven't had any problems finding anyone to hang with or talk to on past cruises.

Heck, my last one I had a very young girlfriend. She was like 8 years old and her parents said she didn't talk to anyone and was always shy. Well, she never shut up with me and kept asking her parents when dinner was so she could talk to me again. Very cute if you ask me. Her parents were a blast to hang with as well.

I just find people and talk to them whether it's at dinner or in the hot tubs. My next cruise I'm doing the Cloud 9 Spa pass and hoping I'll just meet some people in that area to chat with all the time. It's kind of odd the first time, but if you just stay open and happy, you'll meet people no problem.

  4. SNJCruisers....so I decided to wait and now airfare has flip flopped on me. Essentially I can get to Florida on the 01/27 Cruise but I can't get back home under $200 and well, I don't pay that for airlines.

So I'm looking at the 01/13 sailing and was wondering if you had any experience with a room like 1215. I'm not looking so much for size, but any noise being that low. Or is it so minimal on a new ship to not worry about it? Looking to book tonight so any assistance would be great.

  5. It looks like you have your choice of all 4 cabins that are on the Main deck that have two portholes and the twin/sofa bed configuration. 2211, 2212, 2216 & 2217. These are the only 4 that are configured like this on the Main deck. They are all sold out on the other 3 sailings during January and the only other porthole cabin available is one with an upper on the 1/13 sailing, cabin 1215.

There is a price difference between the two sailings, the 1/27 sailing goes to Grand Turk, Ocho Rios and Nassau and would cost you 981.26. The 1/13 sailing only goes to Grand Turk and Montego Bay and would run you 871.72. So, you'll save almost 110 bucks. Good luck with your decision.

Past guest rate? I'm coming up with

    01/27 - $869.63 (Room 2216)

    01/13 - $784.86 (Room 1215)

The biggest difference is the 01/13 sailing I'd have to take 7 days off work (I work some weekends) and the 01/27 sailing only 5 days off work. So between the extra port and the extra 2 days of work the 01/27 sailing works better. I think airfare was also higher on 01/13.

  6. I was not aware they were HC when I was looking to book the other day (I'm waiting till this dumb sale is done so I can book a 1A at the Past Guest rate.) Is that an issue (like what's different) or just the chance of being bumped? If bumped, would I just end up at the bottom in a 1A or upgraded for free?

If you have pictures of 1212 that would be great.

I was mainly liking the upper rooms because I'm looking at getting the Cloud 9 Weekly Spa Pass immediately once on board and figured if I was staying there I may use it more often than staying at the bottom of the boat. Hey, I'm a 30 year old single guy with a stressful job (Police Dispatcher), I need some relaxation, and sitting in one of those steam rooms sounds like it to me. :D

  7. I'm looking at booking the Carnival Breeze with a 1A room for January. There are 4 1A rooms on Deck 11. Never staying that high I have two quick questions...

    1) I've only been on the older Carnival Boats (Fascination, Imagination, Ecstasy) and have always stayed at the bottom of the boats. How is the top compared to the bottom in terms of movement? I've never had motion sickness but did get vertigo after getting off a Royal Caribbean a while back.

    2) Looking at Deck plans and putting the layers together, I see the 4 1A rooms are directly under the Carnival Waterworks. Is there going to be noise at night that would be heard or since it's shut down I shouldn't hear anything (pumps, cleaning, etc.)?

Looking forward to going from the small and mighty to the big and fancy.

  8. I don't go solo though, I go with my sister...and that would complicate things if I did happen upon a lovely man I wanted to spend some time with onboard.

I would love to try traveling alone!

Find a solo cruiser guy on here you'd love to possibly meet on a cruise and plan to go on a cruise together but separate rooms. If you hit it off with the guy, you can hang in his room. If not, you've always got your sister to hang with.

I've always traveled solo and my first cruise I hung out quite a bit with a family I met from on here. They were a blast to hang with and showed me the ways of cruising as it was my first cruise.

  9. nope, nope, nope - Not that kind of singles search - Mom is prior Army and would not want anyone to get hurt:D

Just thought if there were other guys and gals in that age group - I would help them find a thread here to start meeting and greeting with peeps. Travel planning is what I do - they don't even know about these boards yet - but again if a thread started with others going on the cruise - I would send them the link.

I'm 29 and have been on 3 cruises by myself. I find them enjoyable and love just chatting with whoever I see whether single or married. One of my last cruises I had a blast with a couple that had their 8 year old daughter with them. She was the most adorable thing I've seen and her parents were pretty cool too. She kept asking when I could come visit her back home (only about 1500 miles away, lol.)

I think just finding anyone to hang with will make it fun. Doesn't necesarily have to be around their age. I'll be searching for my next cruise starting around the end of April.

  10. We are sailing on the Liberty out of Miami on 11/24/12 - YEAH:D

Taking with us single son (31) and single daughter (27)

Not looking for them to meet their match - just some other singles to hang out with, go to all the silly parties with and stay up way past my bed time with!

Anyone else out there going on this one? Would love to start a thread for them and others - I personally use the regular roll call which is great for us middle agers who are already married - we always have a great time with the meet and greets - would love to help set up a singles meet and greet concurrently if possible!:)

    Aren't I a good mom?!;)

Does your daughter need a roommate? :p Save you/her some money. A single guy can dream right? Thumbs up job for being a good mom.

  11. So if I book Carnival and simply opt for the cheapest room, will I end up with a 1A (assuming there is one available) or do I have to specifically request that category?

Also, if anyone has similar advice regarding RCCL's cabins, I'd appreciate it!

If you call up just tell them you want a 1A. On their website, I have no idea. I hate their new booking system and feel it's a pain to get anything on it.
