  1. We've always managed to make late morning flights on weekdays. As long as your ship is on time you are probably OK. Check into the Luggage Direct program. It saves you some time.

Also try to find out if there are many other ships in port. If you have your departure date, I can look it up for you.

Thanks. Our departure date is January 5,2015 we are on the Noordam.

  2. The old town is inside of the city wall. There are 2 green markets, one is inside of the old town but it is cleared out by Noon every day. The other is located down in the Gruz harbor where the vast majority of ships are docked. Again this one is gone by Noon, to see those markets one must be here no later than 8am and never on Sunday. The best times are very early morning, down at the Gruz and on Friday and Saturday. Rest of the week it's small and not so much fun. The one down in the old town is not as big as it was years gone by and again the best days are Friday and Saturday also.

You may want to download the site I've posted, this is the very valuable tourist map which you can obtain at the tourist bureau near to the Pile gate entrance. This will help you get a better insight to the town and it's surrounding area.

If your ship is docked at the Gruz harbor, you must either take a taxi or a ship shuttle bus to the old town. All taxis and buses drop guests near to the Pile gate entrance.

If your ship is at anchor in the old town, then the tender will drop you at the old dock which is located inside the old town. All these are shown very accurately on the map, hope it helps you.

Thank you very much!! We are there on a Monday so I will not worry to much about the market.

  3. Ours was in April 1989 on the Rotterdam. Despite the age difference, we were only 32 at the time, and the rest of the passengers seem to be 60+ we had a great time. Lots of funny memory's. Like when we found out we had been upgrade to an outside cabin only to realize that it had upper and lower berths. The upper berth was never used but every night the cabin steward prepared the cabin as if it would be used, until the last night when the ladder was not put out and two chocolates were on the pillow on the lower berth. :D Or when we dropped anchor and my wife practically had her life jacket on before she got our of bed as she thougth we had hit something and we were going down (it was like 5:00AM). Or when we were embarking and back then you were given a number and ours was like 700 and they came on and said those needing assistance would be boarded first. I looked around and said "well that should take care of just about everyone" I thought the fellow beside me was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard. We ran in to him several times during the cruise and everytime he just laughed. Some great memories thats for sure. :)
