Thanks for the update and the update to the update!  I’m from the US and I booked a car through your recommendation of Arash Rent a Car.  They did confirm my booking with my US drivers license entered.  Thanks for the referral.  I’m really looking forward to my visit.

Thanks for checking for me!  I leave Friday for my trip but have time to run by AAA if needed to obtain one.

  3. I got the Key (at $19.99) for an upcoming cruise but there are only two of us, it's a three night cruise and we were planning on getting internet anyway.  It was an extra $29 and some change per person for us to change the drink package with internet to the drink package and Key.  I figure the meal and priority embarkation and debarkation make it worth the extra money.  I'm not sure if I would do it on a longer cruise with a larger group.  It remains to be seen whether it is worth it.

  4. I just got this for the Mariner next month for $19.99.  It's a three night cruise and we were already planning on getting an internet package so it's under $30 more for the Key.  I think the priority embarkation and debarkation alone may be worth it.  And I fully plan on taking advantage of the other perks.  I'll report back after the trip.

  5. I didn't print my e-docs or luggage tags (and didn't know my room number) prior to boarding my cruise. No issues, the porters had a list of cabins and they gave me the luggage tags there and I wasn't even asked for my e-docs at the counter.

  6. We rented cars in every port. I initially booked throug Costco travel but then tried Autoslash which saved around $75. We also upgraded to convertibles at the rental car desks for much less than we would have paid to rent the convertible initially.

If you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred credit card (a great way to earn points for travel), they operate as a primary rental car insurer if you pay with that card and decline coverage at the desk. (They also have great trip interruption and cancellation benefits).

  7. No need to apologize. I'm probably confusing. I bought $500US in credits. NCL had a promotion on that doubled that amount. All I want back from NCL is the original monies I paid them - $500US

Actually you'd only be entitled to $250 back, since you only paid $250 for the certificates (the other $250 being credited to your onboard account). You do seem overly upset about this situation so for NCL's sake I do hope they refund you your $250 so you can go find something else to take up your time and energy.

  8. I just got off the POA today. We went south of Hilo to the lava flow, floated by and then turned and went north to Kona. It was an absolutely amazing experience. Bucket list item, actually. You could see the glow for about an hour before we got there and several hours after we left. They had a commentary about the lava flow and you could see the lava river. You could also see lots of small areas along the coast where the lava was entering the water. Between the lava and the Napali coast in Kauai (and everything else) it was an amazingly cruise.

  9. I wanted to come back and update. I’m the one who booked the very last available room on the Pride of America about two weeks ago for this Saturday (7/28/18). Got an inside guarantee (Sail Away) because I literally had no other options. Everything was sold out. My upgrade email came in a few days after I booked and I bid $120 on a balcony and $55 on an oceanview (I initially didn’t bid on the oceanview but added my bid once my room assignment came in). My room assignment came in earlier this week and I was assigned an inside room on deck 4 smack dab beneath the theater stage. Beggars can’t be choosers, right, and I knew when I booked the guarantee that anything was possible. I just wanted to get on the ship!

I got my upgrade confirmation this morning, two day’s before we sail. I was moved from inside on deck 4 to oceanview on deck 7. It appears from the deck plans that I will have a view of the life rafts but I’m happy to pay the extra $55 per person not to be under the theater stage. So I feel very, very lucky!

  10. I booked an inside guarantee on the POA two weeks ago for sailing 7/28. I got the upgrade offer and put in a low bid for a balcony on what appears to be a fully booked ship. I never got a denial email but I see now that my upgrade message disappeared and I now have a room number assigned (inside cabin) so it does appear that my bid has been denied. I just find it odd I never got an email.

Wow I spoke too soon. Logged back in to NCL and for some reason my upgrade message is back, as is the ability to modify my bid. So I guess it hasn’t been denied (yet). So strange!

  12. Waiting until 2 days before the cruise to communicate winning bids is a bit unnecessary, in my opinion.

Two WEEKS before is a better target for those who are traveling before their cruises and need to change reservations, etc. if their bid is accepted.

Just announce a “last day for bidding” and alert the winners the next morning!

So many people probably increase their bids as it gets closer because they're nervous they haven't heard anything. I bet that's why some aren't decided early.

I'm waiting to hear on a balcony upgrade on the POA sailing 07/28. I'm in a guarantee inside cabin so I have no choice as to where they'll put me anyway. I didn't bid on the oceanview. I'm not holding out any hope though, as it appears this sailing has been booked full for weeks.

  13. I just booked a cruise this week for 7/28/18 on the Pride of America. I think I got the last cabin on the ship (inside guaranty) and no availability is showing on the NCL website. But I got the upgrade offer to oceanview or balcony. I can’t imagine there would be many, if any, cabins available. Do they do the upgrade offers even for sold out ships?

  14. We were on a Western Caribbean cruise from Tampa over Thanksgiving a few years ago. We had a middle aft balcony. The last day before the cruise ended was a sea day. I went out on the balcony to get some towels and bathing suits that had been drying out there when I heard a woman quietly saying "help". I peeked over to my left and there was a woman two balconies over who was very distraught (the aft balconies are angled so you can see across if you're standing at the railing). I said hello and asked her if she was okay. She said she wasn't okay. I asked her if she wanted me to come over to her room and she said no. She then proceeded to climb up on her little table and hop onto the balcony between ours. Once there, she climbed over onto our balcony. I seriously almost had a heart attack. I thought she was going to fall to her death as I stood there helpless.

Once she was on our balcony I could see she was bleeding. Turns out she was on her honeymoon and her new husband got jealous of her and decided to show her who was boss. We gathered up some towels to clean her up and escorted her down to the main lobby area to see if we could get security involved. What a huge, gigantic waste of time. Apparently the woman and her husband had smuggled some beer onto the ship and the guy had too much to drink. All security was worried about was confiscating the smuggled beer out of their cabin. They didn't care that she had been beat up, that she had climbed over two balconies to get to us, only that she had beer she wasn't supposed to have...

We offered to let her sleep in our cabin that night (the ship was apparently full and security didn't care if she went back to stay with her husband). She declined and went back to make up with the tool that beat her up. It was definitely a memorable way to spend a sea day...
