  1. Hi can anyone actually tell me what the hairdryers are like on Pacific Sun. Was going to take mine as the small hotel type ones are so powerless they seem to take forever to dry long or thick hair.

Also hadnt come across the no "travel iron" yet, but are they strict on that one?

    Thanks:rolleyes:

I have found the dryers great, although you are limited to using them where they are attached. The shape of them is more like the old fashoined style from the 70's and they are not like a small hotel one at all.

They are strict on the no iron policy as it is a fire risk. Fires on ships are not good  Many take their straigteners, which I think P&O have a preference for people not to.

However there are irons in the laundry for you to use and I usually get the cabin steward to have my formal things pressed that may need it, it's usually $3 a piece, although last time was a pant's suit and I think it was also $3 total.

Personally I wouldn't take an iron.

  2. Have been looking at this one for ages as the 21st June is Dh's birthday and what a lovely surprise this would be. Not that he would think that, the surprise would be for me if he said sounds good!

I can get a really good price for a triple on the 5th June syd-bris around $260 each. But not for the Bris-Syd.

  3. We arrived here on the 24th November 1960 on the SS Orontes. Mum always said it was the hottest November day they had experienced here in Adelaide.

I remember bits of cruise, there were some big seas somewhere, I remember seeing the water way above the dining room portholes. scary for a just turned 4yr old.

Remember the "flying fish" and the men in little boats coming out on the Suez? trying to sell their goods. Remember Aden and Pompeii. (a little)

Remember people getting dunked by "King Neptune" when we crossed the equator, :D and my 4th birthday, the party that was thrown for me and a few others that had a birthday whilst on board.

Remember someone leaving a tap running in the mens bathroom/toilet and a small flood happening lol :D

Mum, I think still has some menus somewhere, will have to go hunt them down one day if she still has 'em.

    Hi Lizard,

What wonderful memories! A friend of mine arrived in Australia in the early '60s and gave me a sailor doll that she had been given on board. It was a treasured memory of mine to have been given this doll by her.

Two dumb questions I just thought of - Which of those stops is closest to the wharf, and do you purchase the tickets when you first board the bus or from somewhere else?

    Hi Jo,

As promised the the answers to your questions directly from the Noumea Explorer people.

Do people purchase their ticket direct from the driver of the bus, or do they purchase it at the cruise terminal when they arrive in Noumea.

I can confirm that people can purchase their ticket directly from the bus driver. We don’t have any place at the terminal cruise to buy them.

On the days that the ships arrive do your buses still do the same journey or are they booked out by the ship.

Yes, the Nouméa Explorer does the same journey as usual. Clients can hop on the Nouméa Explorer at the city museum (5 minutes walk from the terminal).

Is it possible for people to come off the ship and wait till the Noumea Explorer arrives and just jump on for a tour.

Yes, on the condition that clients wait at one of the stop of the Nouméa Explorer! Once in the bus, you can do the whole tour of Nouméa staying in the bus. Ticket is valid throughout the day!

We also propose clients to make a private tour named “Orientation tour”

If anyone would like the proposed tour details, I have a PDF and am happy to forward it to them.

I also have a scaned copy of the time table and the brochure, if anyone would like this let me know and I will email it to you.

    Hi Jo,

Not dumb at all, really good questions.

I have written too them to see if I can get an absolute answer. But as far as I am aware you can buy the tickets on the bus.

There are a couple of stops close to the terminal and I will have a map with me on the ship, so we can all go over it. The terminal is in Baie de la Moselle. As soon as I have received an answer from the Noumea Explorer people I will post it here.

  6. The Noumea Explorer is a hop on hop off bus that you can use for the day in Noumea. I have been asked to write up the time table in the hopes that it may be helpful to some going there on a cruise. This time table is correct now as I have the latest one, but I can't imagine that there would ever be much change if they were to alter it.
