  1. I just looked up the Karerinas Resturant and yes it looks like the place! It is a very small balcony and inside does look like what I remember even though we were there around 9am. Did not know it was a bar resturant because they were serving coffee etc. and it was really good coffee.

Only thing on the website that was missing was the little old lady that fishes next door. But then the photos were at night and I am sure she was already in bed and not out fishing off her balcony... Possible dancing and enjoying Mykonos at night.

Thank you I will check it out for sure when we are there in Oct and update this site either way.

    Stay tuned....:)

  2. We were in Mykonos in July and enjoyed a delicious lunch and beautiful views of the windmills. The restaurant was Katarinas in Little Venice and had a balcony with a few tables overlooking the windmills. We were lucky enough to sit right behind the balcony and our view was spectacular. Hope this was helpful. I will try to post pictures as soon as I figure out how to do that.

This could be the place if not the response one before your if you go to the link and you see all the buildings the cafe is app. 5 buildings from the end. It is with the littered red deck next to the next red deck.

    We are all so close....

  3. there are quite a few photo's on Google maps, if you look there, it might refresh your memory.

Thank you. I remember this resturant but it is not the one. This is literally one of the building you see from the windmills. And the little old lady comes out on her small balcony next door and fishes in the early am. The cafe,s balcony only seats about 6 and you can see the windmills your resturant everything.

    Again thank you.

    Kim

  4. Does anyone know the name of the small resturant (cafe) that is on the way to the famous windmills that is right on the water.

If you go in early you van get to sit on the small balcony and have a perfect view of the windmills and turn around and watch the next door neighbor fish right off her balcony next door?

Other than the fantastic view /location all I can remember is the front doors painted in the typical Mykonos blue which does not help when most everything is painted in the same blue.

Would really appreciate hearing back from anyone that thinks they know the name or by what landmark it is at. If I looked from the windmills at the building I could tell you exactly where it is but not the other way around.

  5. The artwork in the basilica alone takes about an hour to see - there's a good virtual tour that gives you an idea here: http://www.vatican.va/various/basiliche/san_pietro/vr_tour/index-en.html

There's also the Treasury, a separate area (with a fee).

Then there's the climb to the top of the cupola (also a fee), which takes about an hour.

As to other things to see and do in the area, Castel Sant'Angelo is really about it. The rest of the area is mostly residential/business.

Near by (one mile on foot along the Tiber from the basilica) is Villa Farnesina, which few Americans ever seem to visit: http://www.villafarnesina.it/?lang=en

In the same area as Villa Farnesina are the botanical gardens, although unless you're really into that subject matter I wouldn't head there.

    HI,

Just did the Vatican Night Tour at the end of May and got the tour guide. The Door at the Museum opens at 7PM and people were there starting at 6:15PM Our tour started at 7:30PM and ended about 9PM then you had the rest of the night until 11PM to wander / revisit the Vatican on your own.

This was my 2nd time on a tour and it was different than the 1st one!

Doing the Night Tour either with a guide or on your own is GREAT NO CROWDS, No getting connected into a different group. You will really enjoy it:):).

Reminder St Peter's closes around 5PM to get in and literally I think you need to leave by 6PM!

    ENJOY!

  6. We were in Venice June 8, 2014. It must have been our lucky day because it was a day for boat races down the Grand Canal. Great photo ops! We first took the People Mover from the ship to Piazzale Roma. From there we walked everywhere and did not use the vaporettos all day. By doing that, we saw a lot of the side canals in Venice. We walked from P. Roma to Accademia and then to San Marco. We had prebooked tickets for Doges Palace (although there was no line when we got there). Piazza San Marco was practically empty when we got there, but 2 hours later it was packed. From Doges Palace we walked to the Rialto Bridge. We stopped many times for pictures of the boat races. It was very colorful and a lot of fun to see all the crowds cheering on their favorites. It was a full day just walking all over the island of Venice. Rick Steves has some great walking tours of Venice, but we found that we enjoyed just walking wherever the signs took us. I had a map but it was not of great use. A short 4 minute video of the boat races and the canals:

I was also there for the Big Rowing Race. It was great!:) I got to be about 500 front from the finish line and also got great photos! Just Love having an Elvis Sighting!:p

Loved that they now are thowing bags of fruit to the rowers vs the individual fruit!

I would love to see the Sept 7th Big Rowing event but will miss it by 1 day.

One thing I learned was you can not get specific info on Rowing Races in Venice from the Locals because they kind of take if for granted vs we are excited and want the time and location to get a great view.

Could be as an American we know if you don't get for example to a parade early you will never ever get a front row area or a good view unless (well on the East Coast of the US) you have to put a chair in the spot to save a place and hope someone does not walk away with the chair while your gone.

  7. Having just returned from Marco Polo airport this week I have to say it was one of the best airports we have been to. Very organised, loads of "Helpers", plenty of security desks, and lovely lounge. We have been to lots of European airports (land based holidays as well as cruises) and found it to be the best one we have been to. It helped too that our check in with BA was fabulously quick due to the number of desks being open and available.

Silly question but have you checked that it arrives at 6.45? This week at Venice a Celebrity (really sorry I can't remember which one) arrived around 9am and seemed to be embarking/disembarking by 10am at the latest: we only remember because we sat watching it from the deck of the Ventura waiting to leave for the airport! Although hardly anyone seemed to be getting on/off so maybe the ship was too nice that no one wanted to leave! :D

    Hi everyone,

I recently came back (early June) from Venice from a Land tour as well as 3 years ago from a Cruise.

A/ Everything is relavent to what time your flight is.

On the cruise our flight was out at 6:50AM and we took a Water Taxi and at 4:30AM (airport does not open until 5AM if I am not mistaken) and then it was CROWDED due to MANY Flts taking off around the same time.

vs our land trip back in June our flight was at 11:45AM not as many flights and still left on a water taxi at 8:20AM - ck in in Coach was SLOW due to check in they now take photos of your baggage your checking in to help Customs (and / or lost luggage - who knows)

B/ Airlines & Caous - all airlines are different one 3 years ago would not ck you in unless you already had your boarding passes. In June I was on a different airline and the counter was fine with printing the boarding passes. Note I was flying coach class on both trips.

My Suggestion is give your self extra time this July Venice is slow with Tourists then after that it is Busy again until I think late Nov - Dec.

    Good Luck.
