  1. Your cruised are considered separate. After the first cruise, your Seapass account is closed out, and you’re issued a new one. Usually you don’t have to vacate your cabin early. But depending on the day port, you may be asked to meet with other passengers, also on a B2B, and in mass, be taken off the ship, given a New Seapass card, and then can board again.

  2. January 2017 we were in Murano on the Eclipse. This table of 4 was just off the charts. First they were talking about how "poor" the people in Maine are.(one couple was from Boston the other Chicago)The Chicago couple went off about the crime in Chicago(yes, we know how bad the south side is!)Next up the Boston Couple said how "lovely" Eastern Mass. is(obviously, they've never been to Lawrence!)Then they immediately went into a loud drawn out description of Priests raping boys. At that point I had finally had enough. I stood up & yelled to them "Knock it off!!!" "We're all trying to have an enjoyable meal & I'm sure no one here is interested in you & your sordid lives!" That part of the room went silent & then the 3 other tables said "Thank you for saying what ALL of us wanted to say"! The 2 couples surprisingly apologized & left quickly. I then went to guest relations & filed a complaint about this table. I told them to investigate & get back to me. They told me they talked to the group & told them to please show respect to the other guests & if they wished they could "book" the private dining room in Tuscany.

Last October, we too had were subject to loud diners in Murano. What is normally a quiet, serene venue, was extremely noisy that evening. Not comfortable at all.

  3. Our first Celebrity cruise was on the Mercury. We took my parents on a 7-day Alaska Inside Passage cruise out of Vancouver for their 50th anniversary. They had been on a lousy cruise on the now-defunct Dolphin cruise line, and weren't sure they ever wanted to cruise again, but Alaska sounded pretty good. What they didn't know is that 11 other friends and family members were joining us, and they knocked on my parents' cabin door (we had OV cabins next door to each other) about 5:00 on embarkation day. My parents thought it was the cabin steward bringing ice, and when my Dad opened the door, there were 11 friends and family shouting "Surprise"!

The ship was gorgeous. We had two large round tables at the back of the main dining room where we could see the wake every night. The staff was fantastic! I had made an English fruitcake iced with royal icing and had taken it onboard for their anniversary (my Mum is English and they got married in England with a traditional fruitcake wedding cake). I spoke to the maitre'd and he took the cake and had the pastry chefs decorate it -- a wonderful surprise on their anniversary (July 4th - Sitka had been the port and we had seen a small town Independence Day parade).

We loved the Martini Bar and closed down the Cigar Bar (I think it was Michael's) almost every night. We were so lucky on our whale-watching tour in Juneau; we saw Orcas in the distance and then got close to a pod of Humpbacks -- magic!

Everything about that cruise was perfect. Mercury was the most beautiful ship. Unfortunately, although we've had many really good cruises since then, there was something about Mercury.....

You’re right. There was something about Mercury.

  4. Hi Phil, Denny and Don:D...this must be old home week;p

That main dining room on Century was simply "GRAND":D..........

The only thing on Mercury that was really funky was the Martini Bar. It was so little, if you remember the actual bar only had about bar stools..........

    Hi Lois!

I too remember the small Martini Bar. But that ship had character. Beautiful wood detail, and a wonderful cruising atmosphere.

  5. The cruise line does not charge for membership in Captains Club and gives points and relating benefits for the levels achieved according to their rules. Like it or not they get to set the rules accordingly. They are not required to give anything. I find the argument of OP a bit perplexing. Although I understand the OP's point, it is irrelevant. The cruise purchase is not the issue. X has chosen to reward cruisers who complete their trips. They aren't required according to the cruise contract you signed to give points just for paying. Like it or not, it's their ballpark and they get to set the ground rules.

We joined Captain’s Club when they did charge a fee. That was 1999. But there wasn’t the same point system at that time.

  6. I was not aware of this! So... I can ask for Prime Rib each evening... or, for example, Gravlaks or Steak Tartare for an appetizer with ample notice?

I've picked up the 4-night specialty dining package for our June Equinox sailing, as we've typically found the selections in Luminae just so-so. Otherwise, we dine in specialty restaurants each night on all cruises for the past several years - having given up on the MDR experience.

    Tom

I highly doubt you could ask for Prime Rib every evening, but we always ask for grilled vegetables or a particular soup we enjoy. We ask a day or two in advance, and they are always so accommodating. A nice, special touch.

And we always fill out an “Attention to Detail” card, and mention how a specific waiter or attendant went Anita did beyond to make our cruise outstanding.

  7. We usually book a Sky Suite. Originally it was for the additional space. Closet and drawer space, specifically. With the addition of Luminae, that decision became a bonus. The food is very good. They’ll create a dish for you , upon request, if desired, and the quiet atmosphere is a huge plus for us. If price isn’t your deciding factor, then book the Sky Suite.

  8. It wasn't an explanation I was looking for. A simple apology for his/her rudeness would have sufficed.

And the purpose of this board is what? I saw plenty of compliments about the food and drink on this thread but it began with a statement of the ship having to return to Melbourne for a medical emergency. I actually had a wonderful time despite missing the Sounds but thought I could share the disappointment with other folks who were on the cruise.

So when did CC change, since you seem to be positioned on the gangway berating fellow passengers as well now?

CC changed when posters became rude and self-serving. The overall manners of people on social media has declined in recent years.

CC was extremely civil and polite in earlier years. The administrators paid close attention to comments.

  9. My apologies to other posters on this thread. I thought that this site was called "Cruise Critic" and was a place where people could express disappointment about poor service, bad food and unscheduled changes to a long-awaited itinerary. My bad - I didn't know it's really "Cruise Unicorn" where people can only say magically wonderful and colorful things about every cruise they have ever taken.

To those who chose to be snosty to other posters, I feel sorry for you. You obviously have lots of pent up travel aggression that you are trying to take out on others. What horrifies me is that you may be representing my country and others may be judging ME by your rudeness. Perhaps only those who were on this cruise can truly be mindful of the disappointment of missing the Sounds. The majority of passengers WERE unhappy with the decision to skip them according to Guest Relations so if others were passive about it, that's great. I just don't think it's necessary to berate or belittle others to make your point. And RDC1, I'll assume there was an apology in there somewhere for your snosty comment about Perth and knowing my geography. It must be hidden deeply but I'd like to believe you feel pretty stupid about now for berating me on where the cruise traveled from since you called me out not once, but twice about it.

I guess this is why many of us choose to read but not post. Posting just to inflate your numbers isn't helpful to anyone, especially when you have nothing to offer.

I’ve been a member of Cruise Critic since 2000, and originally, CC was designed as a board where people could obtain information and guidance, regarding cruising. We didn’t complain, or berate our fellow passengers. Boy, have times changed.

RDC1 was giving you an reasonable explanation for his/her post, and apparently that isn’t good enough for you.

We can all express our viewpoints, but continually rehashing can only be counterproductive. Write or call Corporate office. You may get some resolution. Constant complaints will not achieve anything on this board.

  10. Viking compensated its passengers with a 25% off future cruise voucher for those who still decided to cruise (after being given the option of free cancellation) when the Caribbean islands were damaged from Hurricanes Harvey and Irma and they were going into ports which didn't have much to offer. They also received a $600 OBC per cabin. These passengers knew full well what they were embarking on and yet Viking felt they wanted their customers to be satisfied. Guess that's the difference between a good cruise line and a mediocre one.

I've also sailed on many cruises where ports were missed and goodwill compensations were made. It is just good business. The cruise lines won't be going broke anytime soon!

Viking’s situation was entirely different. It was as known in advance that some ports were impacted, due to hurricane damage.

But your situation could not be anticipated in advance.

I guess I don’t understand the philosophy that states, “I didn’t get what I want, so compensate me”.

  11. Because we paid for something we didn't receive and normally you are compensated when you don't receive goods or services according to what was advertised. It's called good business practice. This was not an inexpensive vacation and some of us will never be able to do it again. That's why. It's not being paid for disappointment, it's being compensated for lack of goods or services. And you can best believe that passenger who was ill will be paying a pretty hefty bill for that turnaround! Celebrity sure didn't do that for free!

Have you checked your cruise contract? I think Celebrity has the discretion to change an itinerary.

I can understand that it’s an expensive cruise. I’ve sailed it also. But I’ve also been on cruises where ports were missed due to a variety of reasons. But I have never felt that Celebrity owes me anything. I still utilized the ship during that period. It wasn’t a “trip interruption”, but a missed port.

Each of us have our levels of what we’ll tolerate and accept in a given situation.

  12. Also, based upon many cruises and actually having this situation last year, it is not Celebrity's policy to do that. Does it happen, yes, most likely because someone screwed up but it is not policy.

Don, my DH and I have the same loyalty status, but I have cruised many more days than he has.

  13. We usually don't frequent the new "gourmet" burger places on land, so can someone please tell me what is so great about the Luminae one since it sounds rather underwhelming?

It’s really a great burger! The bun is a brioche bun. They use a onion-tomato chutney that is delicious. And it’s served with truffle fries. I usually eat only half of the burger.
