  1. I think thats the case for some folk though not us

Many fellow travellers have told us they would never visit a speciality restaurant as they have already paid for their food. On my recent Adonia cruise we had several lunches and one evening meal in the Glass House and apart from one occasion the restaurant was never more than one third full (and you can eat in there for £5 or £6!) I also think some don't drink much in the bars and restaurants to save money - once we had a couple like that at our table and they had a drink in their cabin (inside one) before they came out in the evening

Horses for courses - but its my holiday and I am enjoying it

What's wrong with inside cabins ?????

  2. In answer to a thread by BigFoot just now, I wonder how folk feel about the change in titles to the Senior Officers. As an 'old' cruiser we were brought up with the titles of Purser and Cruise Director, which are still used on some lines. Carnival clearly feel that ships are now hotels and titles should reflect that! I wonder when the Captain will become the Driver.

    Just a thought!

Perhaps they'll do away with Captains and control the ship remotely from a computer ! :-)

  3. We have booked a cruise in January on the Thomson Majesty. Previous ocean cruising have been with RCI and P and O which we have loved. We have also done nile cruising. We know that this will be different than the bigger ships, but we wanted to try something different. I am now worried that we have done the right thing and am considering changing to land based holiday due to the negative reviews and comment's from other Travellers. We are doing cooler full coasts and are not worried about rough seas. But do expect basic cleanliness and good food any comments on your experiences greatly received.

    Sarah and Dave 😕

Try posting on the Thomson page, that might get better responses :)

  4. If you pick the right time to use the laundry, it is no hassle.

During the day, especially on sea days, they are very busy and you need to be present or keep popping in to keep an eye on things.

However the laundries are open until 10pm, and later in the evening after the first dinner sitting has sat down, few people are using them.

So drop the washing off in one of the many empty machines and disappear off for a drink. Return after 45 mins and put the finished washing in the drier and set the time for 45 mins and disappear off for another drink. Return to dry washing.

Sure during the day it is the done thing to stay with the machine, but after 7pm it is rare that more than one other person wants to use a machine, so there are loads free.

Sounds like hard work ! Send it to the laundry. :-P

  5. 4 formal nights on a 14 day cruise is OTT, formal nights every three days is ridiculous. Avoid the outside decks in your finery as you are likely to get covered in the soot from their funnels.

    I would prefer 3 formal nights per week, I love them ! :) :) :)

  6. Just a quick question - is there a magnifying make up mirror in the bathrooms on board the Ventura or do I need to take my own? Unfortunately eyesight now not good enough to apply eyeliner without one LOL.

Yes there is, it is a reversible mirror fixed to wall. I use it for shaving !

  7. My kids don't have a cabin number yet but we are on the Azura. I have spoken to P&O and they have said that they can put 3 in this room at an extra £460 compared to another cabin with 1 person at £1839.

I think you've answered your own question !

  8. That was the point. We didn't go to our muster stations, we sat in the one of the lounges! Our muster station wasn't pointed out to us and neither were we checked off on a list. In the case of the ship sinking, how many of those P & O passengers would still be wandering around the ship asking which of the many bars should they be sitting in waiting to hear what to do next? On the RCI Brilliance of the Seas last month, we had to go to our muster stations and were all ticked off a list and then informed of what the procedure was once everyone was there. Now, that was a proper muster procedure.

Perhaps you should only cruise with RCI then ! :-)
