Thanks everyone.  So we just booked the April 3rd Legend that goes to Half Moon Cay.  Only 8 weeks to go and not one person posted in a roll call.  Hope we are not sailing by ourselves.

It's the same for our March 13 cruise on Legend (no Roll Call posted).  That's Spring Break week for Virginia schools, so I highly doubt we are cruising alone.  LOL!  Maybe people are just shy?

    Have a great cruise!

Aw darn. That's a shame. BTW, I love your avatar. What's the handsome gentleman's rank?

I'm not complaining - just would like to use one eventually!

  3. Received several 'Good to Go" offers recently (free inside cabin for 2 with DOU) and have maybe spent $20 total in CCL casinos (slots).  Unfortunately, I can't coordinate our schedules to take advantage.

  4. I told him about our grandparents celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on our cruise last week. He sent them a bottle of champagne, a very nice fruit basket, chocolate covered strawberries, 2 medals, and 2 ships on a stick along with a note. :) My grandparents got a kick out of it.

OMG! Your grandparents were our next cabin neighbors! Great folks!

  5. We booked our Princess Panama Canal cruise for less $$ (about $200 PP) in a better cabin (aft balcony) with prepaid gratuities and a $250 (military) OBC each. The cruise is also a day longer. That is with Princess, not a TA.

Not all Princess cruises will yield the same results. We got an awesome deal!

  6. The real test is posting three examples that anyone else can go online and check that the comparison is a true apples to apples comparison. I haven't seen anyone do that making the claims easy to dismiss as aberrations.

For example, let's take my upcoming Cozumel Plus itinerary in November. Celebrity does not have any comparable cruises. So anyone claiming that they can do better on Celebrity, price-wise, is blowing smoke.

Okay so let's switch to a less exotic Southern Caribbean cruise from San Juan.

    Carnival: $419 per person

    Celebrity: $649 per person

Let's switch to Alaska (Seattle roundtrip) in June 2018.

    Carnival: $949 per person

    Celebrity: $1,079 per person

    Let's switch to Mexico:

Oh wait... There is no apples to apples comparison.

    How about Canada this September:

Again, no apples to apples comparison.

You have to consider the perks offered as well. Celebrity currently offers a $150 pp OBC, drink package, prepaid gratuities or unlimited internet and Carnival offers nothing. That $300 per cabin OBC makes the Celebrity cruise the better bargain in both of your examples.

The cruise I booked offered 2 perks, so do the math.

Perhaps another line offering OBC/perks sails to Mexico and Canada.

  7. I saw several bears (black and brown) during a Skagway to Yukon tour during my first Alaska cruise, which was in late May of '09. Saw tons of whales during too - all kinds of cool wildlife critters. Hope to see more next May.

  8. This information is correct, however, I believe the scenario the OP is talking about is: He booked under a category that allowed him OBC as a "reward" for booking during a sale. Then found a rate for the same cabin that was cheaper but the sale was no longer on. In that case, indeed, he would lose the OBC received from the original sale booking. The price drop needs to be more than the OBC in order to result in a net profit. This has always been true.

Just re-read the OP, he would indeed keep the $100 and needs to remind the booking agent of that when finding a price drop.

This was the on-board booking OBC under the former system, and I was attempting to switch the booking to another cruise, which has not been a problem until they just changed the on-board bookings. The rep and his supervisor were reminded numerous times to no avail.

I have since cancelled the (fully refundable) booking and happily booked 2 cruises on X.

  9. To the OP: if anyone, myself included, assumed you booked under Early Saver and therefore lost your deposit to Carnival, it's because you stated that they couldn't transfer your on-board booking OBC to a new booking. The non-transferable OBC received from booking onboard started with the new program, which was tested out on some ships and then rolled out fleet wide on May 8th. Under that program, you have to book Early Saver.

There are a whole slew of assumptions that would have to be made to reach that result, but whatever makes you feel better. I'm done arguing about this and have moved on to bluer waters.

  10. Wine with dinner is typically the issue. Most upgrade to get more selection on wine. I was ok with the standard package (many fewer choices than Carnival's package), DH upgraded which you can do on up until the 2nd to last night and only pay for the upgraded days.

I think you will enjoy Celebrity. We did.

Interesting. I guess we'll see when we get on the ship.

I think it's great that they let one person upgrade and the other can remain with the basic package. What a concept  That would be great for us if DH finds some potion he can't live without. I'm usually fine with whatever is provided (I'm frugal) as long as it doesn't taste like vinegar rung out of a dishrag.

  11. We will fly in the day of if cruising from Florida, but only if we fly out first thing, and there are plenty of other flights available that will get us there on-time.

We prefer to fly out the day before (or evening before if I have to work). Even though we get insurance, it's better to be safe than sorry, plus it's nice to get a head start on our vacation.

  12. I totally misunderstood what you were saying. It's happened before. You're a lawyer. Sue me ;) Lol.

Enjoy your replacement cruise on Celebrity. :) Been dying to get on one of their Solstice class ships. The only way to handle it is to vote with your wallet and walk away just like you did. I just don't think they care unfortunately

    It happens.

    Thanks. :)

They probably don't, and they probably won't until it keeps happening. Time will tell. Happy sails!

  13. I read through the entire thread and it sounds to me that this is a blessing in disguise for you. Enjoy your Celebrity cruise with the perks they include! :)

I can't wait to try Celebrity when the opportunity arises.

Thanks. I'm thinking that too. It's looking like the DH and I are going to get an extra cruise (on a brand new ship) out of this disaster. :)

    Happy cruising!

  14. ;p

I have to say I am very impressed with the composure you were able to keep with all of the ridiculous accusations from people on here who jumped to conclusions and clearly did not comprehend what you were trying to say. I understood from the first post - you never once mentioned booking early saver or anything non refundable. I would have lost it long ago. :')

Anyway, I hope you enjoy your cruise on Celebrity. It's too bad Carnival has left a bad taste in your mouth and I don't blame you at all for bailing.

    Thanks :)

Unfortunately, in my profession, much of my time is spent being nice to people who I'd much rather throw bricks at  so I've had years of practice at it....hence the need to cruise a lot

  15. I'm sorry if anything that I said has upset you, wasn't my intent at all. If you only want your post to make sense to a small group of posters I suppose wording it like you did was fine, but many of us don't. And of course if you want someone to learn from your experience the more info given, the better. I am glad that you found a cruise that you will like and it sucks that CCL wasn't able to do anything for your booking, regardless of why.

No harm, no foul. Please check out Alaska cruises and get there soon. :)

  16. Well enjoy Celebrity. If anyone wants to take advantage of 2 friends and family vouchers for the Celebrity Edge sailing January 13, 2019 let me know. It's $150 OBC but you have to book before the 14th of this month. There are 2 available. Shoot me over an email (it's in my signature).

Just looked at the plans for the ship. WOW! We're in. :D

    I'll shoot you an email
