  1. You're on VACATION! Unplug and unhook! You can chat when you're back to normal life! You don't want a bunch of folks knowing you're not home, anyway!

We will definitely enjoy the vacation, but we have young kids so I won't be able to relax unless I can check in with Grandma and Grandpa and make sure they're ok. A mama's heart never goes on vacation!

  2. I’m guessing it’s been awhile since you checked out the carnival website, they discontinued their message at least two years ago. They transitioned their online people to focus on FB.

No, I have not cruised Carnival in several years. I was just using that as a way to explain what I was looking for to see if Royal Caribbean offered anything similar.

Thank you to everyone who let me know, we will look into the wifi packages.

  3. We are leaving on our first Royal Caribbean cruise in a couple weeks. On Carnival, they have a message board on their website that you can access for free (since it's their site) while on-board in order to communicate with people back home. Does anyone know if Royal Caribbean has anything like this? If not, what is the most cost effective way to communicate with people in the US from Europe? Our cell phone company offers no international service at all. Thanks!

  4. For the Oasis class ships, when you do your online check-in you will be asked to choose a time slot for arriving at the port. When we boarded Harmony in Barcelona the slot we chose was from noon to 12.30pm, and it definitely wasn't the latest one. In any case, you should certainly have time for a photo shoot in the morning. If you are sailing at 6pm, the all-aboard time is unlikely to be earlier than 4pm, although I don't think I would want to cut it that fine.

Perfect, thank you so much! :D

  5. We are new to Royal Carribean and European cruising. We booked our first for next year on the Symphony of the Seas. It says our cruise departs at 6pm, but I'm wondering if anyone knows what time boarding takes place. We are doing a vow renewal photoshoot in Barcelona for our anniversary, and I'd like to do it that morning if we have time but I can't find anywhere that says what time we need to be at the port. Does anyone know what time we need to be there? Thank you! :)

  6. Hello! My husband and I booked a Mediterranean cruise in Sept. 2018 for our 10 year anniversary and would like to renew our vows. We have decided to do it in port at one of our stops in Italy (La Spezia (Florence/Pisa), Civitavecchia (Rome), or Naples (Capri). Has anyone ever done a wedding or vow renewal in one of these locations? We obviously need a full service company to arrange everything so we can just show up and get it done! Thanks for any ideas or leads!

  7. Here is a link to my Alaska album on my Facebook Photography page.

I have posted several photos from my trip in mid July and still have some more I will be adding to the album.

These are breathtaking, you're an incredible photographer!

  8. We have the same hours in Ketchikan on our upcoming cruise. We decided to do a deep sea fishing excursion. It won't leave much time to see the town, which is a bummer. But, that was one of our top excursion choices and Ketchikan is supposed to have some of the best fishing. It all depends on your must do's and see's!

  9. I wasn't sure if I should post here or the Alaska board...

Juneau is one of our ports next year, and it "may be a tender port," apparently depending on the ships already in port. Does anyone know how I can find out for sure? If we are tendering I want to buy the FTTF, but if not I'm not sure it's worth it.

    Thanks!

  10. There has been a virus going around here (Colorado, among other places) called enterovirus 68. It has mainly been affecting children but isn't limited to them. It could be that, as the symptoms start out cold like and then move to the chest, many people have been hospitalized to receive breathing support. Just a guess, it may be totally unrelated too!

  11. We're definitely ok with it not being party central. We're 29 but consider ourselves old souls. :) Just looking forward to a glass of wine and some sleep that we don't get at home with the kiddos.

Where do you find the cruise director schedule? The one I found was only through February so it must be outdated.

  12. Thank you! The one we booked actually does Glacier Bay instead of Tracy Arm. This made me even more excited, thanks for sharing! I'm jealous you got to sail with John Heald, his blog and FB posts crack me up.

  13. It seems like very few people here cruise to Alaska on Carnival (I know they don't offer a ton of options so I'm sure that's part of it). We had a credit on Carnival from a cancelled Caribbean cruise when we decided to give Alaska a try. It was actually kind of nice to have limited options because it was less overwhelming. :) We've cruised Carnival several times and always enjoyed ourselves, though when it comes to vacations we're fairly easy going and don't find much to complain about. So, just wondering if anyone here has cruised to Alaska on Carnival and has any reviews, tips, recommendations, etc. Thanks!

  14. Hello, on our next cruise I will be gold and my husband will still be red. Am I allowed to bring him to the VIFP party with me, or are they strict about having to be gold or above? I understand having to earn it but I don't want to go without him so I just wanted to check. I figured we can't be the only ones that have encountered this. Thanks!

  15. Are there any recommendations for deep sea fishing excursions in Juneau, Skagway, or Ketchikan? There is only one cruise sponsored one in Juneau so I was wondering if there were any private tours that anyone could recommend. We are going the first week of September (next year). Thanks!

  16. Thank you all! You're right that I don't want to miss a great shot for the sake of saying I did it in manual mode. My main reason for wanting to do that was to force myself to learn how the settings work together to get the types of shots I like. I will definitely experiment in all of the modes. Does anyone have any online resources they recommend to learn more? How much photo editing do you typically do, or do you keep the photos as they are straight off of the camera? I love photography and used to do it a lot in high school but it's been so long I feel like I'm starting over.

  17. Hello, I have a Nikon D3000. I'm a total newbie and I'm forcing myself to start using manual mode, we're taking a cruise to Alaska next year and I'd like to get some great shots. I currently have the standard 18-55mm lens, but I'd like to get something better with a powerful zoom for the trip. That said, I don't want something so big it's hard to take on excursions.

I'm also deciding if I should buy a good lens or rent a GREAT lens for the trip, has anyone ever done that?

Any recommendations or tips are appreciated!

  18. We are planning a cruise to Alaska, we have cruised many times but always to the Caribbean. So, I have a question for any Alaska cruise experts!

Our schedule has us limited to two options, both are similar with only a couple differences. The first sails August 18 and goes through Tracy Arm Fjord, the second sails September 1 and goes through Glacier Bay. I have heard Glacier Bay is great, but August weather is better. So, which would you choose?

    Thanks for your help!

  20. I don't know the exact room, but we had a balcony room on the Valor, deck 6 aft. We were pretty much right above the piano bar. We never heard a single noise from below, if that helps. We're booked on Liberty now and chose deck 7 because it was only $10 more, but I wouldn't hesitate to book the same location again.

I used to think a balcony wasn't worth the extra money, but now I wouldn't want anything else. We believe it's worth every penny!
