My TA emailed me yesterday afternoon and held a cabin for us.  I told her this morning to book it.  A C1 on deck 8 for $1,820 on a 10 night is an awesome deal!  Deposit paid and booking confirmation received.  We like this itinerary and Tortola will be new for us.

Will let you know later if my TA gets it booked. She’s been holding it for me.  Emailed her late last night to book it.

Is there more than one place to eat at Spice Mill? I just saw a menu on another site that showed the cheapest meal was $30.

Reggae Beach Bar is also on Cockleshell Beach.  We usually take a taxi there.  Food is also good.

    Are these one-way fares?

Yes, one way but for 4 people so basically $7/person.  We always were in a larger van and paid $7/person or with 4 people we would give the driver $15 for the 2 of us each way.  The other couple paid their $15 each way too.

We’ve been there several times and the owner is great.  They have modified the PAYGO option since Covid.  My understanding is each person pays $45 and it entitles you to a chair, a shared umbrella, and up to $45 in food/drinks. If you do not use up the $45, you lose it. If you exceed the $45, you pay the difference at the end of the day.  Seems very fair.

beachbuddy - don’t stress over the little stuff, it’s suppose to be a relaxing vacation

I'm not stressed over it.  There are many gorgeous beaches in Antiqua so not worried about it.  However, I don't interpret it the same as you.  I'm thinking you pay $45 and then have to spend at least another $45 for drink or food.   I just don't think it's written very clear but at any rate, we decided to go elsewhere.

I'm currently researching for a nice beach bar in St Kitts, just to lay out under a palm or umbrella for a few hours before heading back to ship....  do they rent chairs here and $$$?  food good ?  I believe it's about 30 minutes from the cruise port ?  cheers

Yes they rent chairs and umbrellas. We've been there many times.  Had lunch there a few times and it was good.  If you go to their page on the other social media site (not allowed to mention it here), their menu is even posted.  I know taxi/shuttles to get there use to cost us $7 each for one way so total of $28 for the 2 of us for round trip, but that's when we use to share a ride with others - we would pay for the 4 of us going and they would pay for the return ride. Not sure what the cost is now with the higher gas prices.  If anyone has been there recently, can you let me know how much the taxi was from the port to Cockleshell.

Back in 2018 it was $25 for two people for chairs and an umbrella. Still the same price?

It is still $25.  I wrote to them a couple weeks ago.  2 chairs/shared umbrella and 4 drinks.  I can't remember but I believe free wifi as well.

  7. I find the pay as you go very confusing. I wrote to them for an explanation but still doesn't sound right to me.  Pay $45 which includes chair/umbrella but then spend $45 on food and get chair/umbrella free.  Makes no sense to me.  So we'd have to spend $180 to spend the day there or $90 and get no food or drinks.  What I don't understand is I thought chair/umbrella was included in the $45/person price.  I decided to go somewhere else.......to much stress trying to figure out this place........LOL

My upcoming cruise will dock in Nassau but my husband will remain onboard (attempting to get some work done online). I am not interested in booking a ship (or other) tour. What is there to do right at the port? Is this a safe enough area for a middle-aged female tourist to walk around on my own? What about the Queen's Staircase or other attractions?

Not much at the port right now.  It's all under construction.

     Hi ,

Royal C usually dock at the new cruise terminal this is too long a walk just get out of the port gates ,A taxi is cheap about 10 euro's its on a meter and the drivers do not expect a tip ,Give one if you wish but only a small amount.

Do the  walk that starts at the market  Oliver then its down hill.

You will finish your day somewhere near the Cathedral and you could get the ships shuttle back.

Thank you so much.  I didn't realize that Royal has a shuttle.

The Weather Can be fantastic at the end of October this year it was but no guarantees , get a taxi back to the it is easy and cheap.

Thank you Roger B.  the website is a big help.  One more question.  We can take a taxi back, about how much is the cost?  Should we take a taxi there too or a bus?  There are at least 2 of us, possibly 4.

  11. Roger B,  We will be docked in Palma de Mallorca Oct 26th on Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas from 8 am to 4 pm.  Thinking of going into Old Town to see some things, have a bite to eat and just walk around.  What is the best way to get there from the port.   What are the things to see in that area that we can walk to.  And how should we get back to the port.  Also, just wondering what the weather will be the end of October.

We will be back again on Monday, Nov 2nd and we already have plans to visit Soller and Valdemossa so wanted to see some of the city in October.

Appreciate any information you can provide.

  12. You posted people made reservations just to complain about DD? Is that true? They did not tell anyone about DD for months after Quantum's reservations had begun. I was one of those passengers.

Word started leaking out, then they told everyone. I never said I didn't know before I boarded, you did. If we had known how screwed up it would be we would have canceled, but we would have lost everything. We even dismissed all of the complaints in the cruises before us as growing pains, but after that cruise we avoided Quantum class until DD classic was introduced.

You had a great experience, I'm very happy for you. Many others didn't. Obviously something is/was wrong with RCI's implementation of the concept.

To your points though, I do find it strange they are stopping DD. Quantum (in Bayonne) and Anthem always sail full as far as I know. RCI must be hearing or seeing a future something that we aren't aware of.

    Enjoy your future cruises! :)

I don't want to argue. I should have said some people, not all people, booked it regardless even though they didn't think they would like it and they didn't like it. I didn't think I would like it but ended up loving it because it was different than their other ships. Sounds like your experience was different than ours. Sorry you didn't enjoy it. Not everyone has a computer to read and book everything and that was my big concern. My aunt has no computer and organized a church group to cruise on her this past June. They did Classic and she gave all the names to the TA who arranged their dinners. When they sailed their dinners were all messed up and they never even had the same waiter. And the TA never told them they had to make reservations for shows so they were denied into the shows until my aunt made a fuss and they finally found a few seats for them. I think communication is a big factor. I think RCI needs to get their act together. We don't cruise for the food but we were looking forward to visiting all the restaurants like we did on Quantum, but it won't ruin my cruise. We will be with friends and we'll have a good time.

BTW, the whole group that went with my aunt said they would never cruise that ship again. They did about 4 on Explorer when she was in Bayonne and loved everyone of them.

  13. Harmony's three levels are decorated as Icon, Grande, and Silk. There is an open area and chandelier, which I think is orange.

All MDR levels always had different names so it's the decor that changed. Recently did a B2B on Oasis and honestly can't remember what level we were on. Must not have been Silk - I would have remembered that.

  14. I never tried DD, so I cannot say if it really worked or not.

What I wish RCI had not done was to remodel the dining rooms on Oasis and Allure into three separate dining rooms before they knew they were actually going ahead with DD. The dining room looked better with the chandelier and the open area joining the three levels, but what is done, is done. There is still an open area, but much smaller. The main chandelier is kind of a huge lamp shade now.

I have been on the Oasis and the Allure since the remodel and was assigned to two of the new dining rooms on the two different ships. Both were remodeled in a good way for dining, of course, and other than our first look at the changes, we were fine with the way the dining rooms each looked and enjoyed our experience dining.

I agree. It's a shame they took the chandelier down on Oasis. . I wasn't aware that they did that to Allure too. Wonder what they are doing to Harmony.

  15. Did RCCL contact you about the change in the dining concept for your cruise?

We don't sail until Sept. 2018 to Canada/New England. We just booked recently with 2 other couples. We had to pick Dynamic Choice which was fine with me because I didn't want to Dynamic Classic (we didn't care on Silk on our Quantum cruise). Now with the new dining concept we would like to do MDR at 6:00 in Grande or Chic. Do you think I can change our dining reservation by calling RCCL?

Mary, Dee made all our reservations and linked 8 people. RCI sent her the email yesterday so she called them. They are honoring our 7:45 dinner time - just changed it from DD to MTD. I read that they are going to be adjusting some show times as well to coordinate with traditional dinning times. I think our late shows that we booked might be ok, but we had a few earlier ones booked too. Dee is going to call and see if we need to change any of those. We were all set and excited about the dinning rooms and now they burst our bubble and we'll be stuck in American Icon or Silk for the duration. Maybe we'll hit the WJ a couple nights. Plus we all bought the 2 night dinner BOGO for specialty restaurants. LOL.

If you want to change your dinning to traditional 1st seating, do it now before they book up.

  16. LOL, that is certainly not true. Passengers booked the Quantum and Anthem wanting a different experience. What I found was a maze of problems that we did not anticipate. (If you remember, the initial bookings for Quantum no one was told about DD.)

Add in all of the other lines you needed to navigate. IFly, NorthStar, etc...

What isn't true? Making reservations was a bit of a hassle in the beginning but that's because of Royals crappy website. My friend called them, made all out reservations and linked 5 couples together. We had no issues. We even changed a couple reservations during our 12 nights once we were onboard and had no problem doing it. We loved eating at different places each night. They even let us eat in Coastal Kitchen one night. We had great service and great food. Dinners were much quicker than sitting for 3 hours in a MDR. We never waited in line for dinner.

You maybe had a different experience but we had a great one and that's why we booked it again.

They advertised DD way before the ship was even completed. They had a huge affair in NY for TA's and gave samples of food and raved about it. There were quite a few press conferences on the web about it and their website certainly had all the information. If someone didn't know about it, it's because they had no computer and/or their TA didn't tell them about it.

  17. I agree with you, we enjoyed the dynamic dining concept.

Hi Mary, nice to see you over here. We're the 1st cruise to experience this change. 3 other couples that were on the Silly with us are coming too. I'm sure we'll have a good time. Just hope things run smoothly.

  18. Ah, so the rotation was the problem.

Of course it was. What cracks me up is why would people book this ship knowing it wasn't traditional dining but book anyway just so they could complain. Very disappointed with this change, but in final payment already so will go and hopefully have a great time, but won't be booking it again. Since we'll be in 1 of the 4 dining rooms for 12 nights I'd rather just do MTD in a large main dining room on another ship.
