  1. We're just regular balcony folks- whatever works out price wise, which was a CC balcony on the Millennium and a balcony guarantee on Silhouette (couldn't pass that up for $799/pp, down from the $1,499/pp so we gave up our A1 balcony on the hump!)

So yes, we'll definitely look into a suite- the new dining rooms are appealing. And Michael's Club was our favorite hangout prior to the renovations (we liked it when it was focused on craft beer) so that just might be a good bet, too. And I do like the idea of not "risking" trying a new line. We know we like Celebrity so part of me worries over a lateral move to Princess or HAL.

Princess seems to get great Alaskan reviews, though- but what about HAL? Are their ships really smoky? Is it worth looking at? (We hate smoking and smoky casinos are the worst!)

HAL and Celebrity are a bit alike but the average age on HAL is quite a bit older than Celebrity. Also, HAL's suites benefits are not even in the same ball park as Celebrity's.

  2. OP, you haven't mentioned what type of cabin you've sailed on with Celebrity. If you haven't sailed in a suite, the recent upgrades to this class of cabins might be appealing. Luminae is outstanding, Michaels Club a wonderful pre-dinner stop and you'll receive excellent concierge service, the butler is top notch and free dinners at the specialty a big perk.

If you are someone who sails in suites on Celebrity please ignore my post, if not check out what is included and compare it to other lines.

We have sailed on Princess 4 or 5 times this decade and never again, HAL is okay but just okay. The new suites benefits on Celebrity are not to be dismissed.

Good luck with your decision and an early happy 20th. Hope this helps.

  3. For those who didn't read the original posting about this theft there are a few things that need to be added. The OP didn't notice the missing items until Wednesday of his 7 day Reflection cruise. He and his wife had a confrontation with security demanding $2,500 per day for lost business revenue.?. Also he mentioned how rude security was to him and his wife, but as we all know all these meetings are recorded by security cameras so who knows who was rude and who was not. If Celebrity has evidence that this couple was not willing to cooperate with the Miami investigation, good luck to their lawyer.

I'm not writing this to be mean spirited, but we only know half the facts. And sorry OP, if you were going to lose $2,500 a day if your laptop got lost, shame on you to put it in a knapsack through multiple layers of security and not notice it to day 4 or 5.

Good luck with your lawsuit and for your sake I hope you and your wife were on your best behavior during your meeting with security.

  4. We are booked in a "Step Child" suite in March. First off, the reference to step child is so offensive in so many ways it is horrible and the OP should apologize for using this term in such a negative way.

We too booked a Celebrity Suite and we can rebook a S1 and save a lot of money. Our attraction was more the suite itself and had little to do with Michael's Club, therefore we are not switching.

As a couple we cruise on Celebrity numerous times a year and are truly surprised at how empty Michael's Club always seems to be. My personal experience is that Zenith members are more likely to be in there than suites guests. My guess is that is why Celebrity is opening up to the S Class. That certainly is the case on Royal Caribbean ships where the ratio of suites guests vs D+ or P is very small.

  5.

This past January, five of us had sailed on the Celebrity Reflection together. We had such a good experience, that we convinced five more to join us on this trip. While we are holding out hope that our experience on the last half of the cruise will improve, unfortunately, our experience has been somewhat disappointing thus far.

    Adam

Adam, just curious. When you were on the Relection in January and had such a "good experience" did you come on CC mid-cruise and let us know how great things were?

Hope the second half of your cruise improves.

Thank you, but what a big step down from other lines. Don't get me wrong, we are looking forward to our cruise but it is only 7 days and the big benefit seems to be laundry which we won't use.

Goodness I thought HAL was at least on par with Celebrity but it seems they are not in the same hempishere. Honestly HAL's suites perks are a few notches down from Royal Caribbean, not our favorite cruise line. Also we've cruised in top suites a couple of times on Princess and it seems their perks are better than HAL.

We are spending a lot of money for this cruise. I guess I was naive to think HAL offered equal benefits as their closest competitor.

  7. Thanks for your review. Cats was a big risk for RCL. Their passengers are generally used to live performances (Cats is historically done with lip-synching). Maybe it will work, but I think a safer alternative would be to go with a more live-performance show, so that people would not leave after intermission.

    Huh?

  8. They have already removed one of our favorite Gins (Bombay Sapphire) from the Classic package (it was in the Classic package on the "Official" Celebrity list this past spring), and now it is only on Premium.

Looks like they are planning on recouping some of the money from their "free" drink packages perk by taking enough away from Classic to make most folks upgrade to Premium.

Wow, reading your posts on this thread certainly sounds like you are down on Celebrity before you've ever stepped foot on this cruiseline. If you really need to have Bombay Gin just upgrade to the Premium Package. Let's face it, paying $11 a day for all beverages isn't such a bad deal. Plus then you'll be able to drink in the Martini and Molecular bars, and if you want something more expensive than the P. Package offers you just pay the difference.

I hope you have a wonderful cruise and all this pre-cruise angst will be forgotten. Celebrity really provides a very nice cruise experience.

Oh and Caoecodmercury, thanks so much for posting the Celebrity link. Also thanks hcat for the update.

  9. Just how many Asian ports can handle a ship the size of Oasis? There certainly are very few in the Caribbean. Please keep in mind that this ship's population is way to big to even consider tendering. Is RCI going to drudge ports and build piers and infrastructure to be able to handle this big boy? They did it at Port Everglades, Nassau, Labadee and Falmouth Jamaica but that process took years. Are they currently doing similar projects that will be ready in 1 1/2 year?

    Just curious.

  10. I am so sorry your dog is going through a tough time and I hope he is on the mend and you'll be able to take your cruise.

We had to put down our dog when he was 15 because it just seemed cruel not to. It was such a hard decision to make because we too did not have children and our Buddy filled that gap. As hard as it was it paled to losing my brother a few months earlier from brain cancer. All these years later I can cry about my brother and all that he has missed, but have very fond memories of our dog.

Your dog will always make you have happy thoughts. Hope your vet has good news for you and you can enjoy your holiday.
