As I read the emails, if you cancel because of a positive covid test 72 hours before the sailing, you can get a cash refund.

As a reminder, starting August 6, all guests over the age two, regardless of vaccination status, will now be required to present a negative COVID-19 test result at the time of embarkation. This test may be taken as either a PCR test or an Antigen test, conducted within 72 hours of embarkation. Each guest is responsible for making their own arrangements with an accredited testing provider as well as covering all associated costs.

Unvaccinated guests and children, under 12 years of age, will be required to take an additional antigen test at the terminal prior to embarkation, mid-cruise and on the day before disembarkation. A registration link for required testing will be sent separately. Should a guest be unable to complete the testing requirements, a 100% refund or Future Cruise Credit will be offered.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I took that last line to mean that since they changed the protocols in that now you are required to be tested before cruising,  you can now receive a refund if you choose not to be tested pre cruise.

Just off a cruise and got $3,500 on my cabin in the casino with a 3% fee

Last night go to the Casino players club window....They took off all the 3% fees and some other incidental fees I had

Most people don’t know they’ll do this

Will they do this for anyone or do you have to be a pretty big gambler?  It would be wonderful if the casino returned the 3% fee and I still got my 3% cashback on the credit card!

Your Credit card pays you cash back on cash advances? i have never heard of that before, or am i misinterpreting your post.  What card is this?

From what I understand, the amount you have charged to the room from the casino will be on your final NCL bill which will be coded as travel.  On my credit card you earn 3% cashback on travel.

  4. I was very surprised when looking over the Freestyle Daily (someone was nice enough to upload) that there is a discount for multiple devices for both basic and premium unlimited internet access.  This is for the 7 day Getaway.

    Premium:

    1 device - $34.99/day

    2 devices - $25.99/day

    4 devices -  $20.99/day

    Basic:

    1 device - $29.99/day

    2 devices - $21.99/day

    4 devices - $18.99/day

Still cheaper to upgrade if you have one of the free offers but if you have 4 people in your group who want access and don't have the freebie, this is much cheaper than all four buying online separately even with the 15% online discount.

    1. Premium "Plus" Beverage Package & the Haven:  As most of us, my wife and I got the perk of the Premium Beverage Package.  I upgraded that package to the Premium "Plus" Beverage package.  WHY? Lots of reasons but here are just a few. a) Full Bottles of REALLY GREAT wine at meals not just a pour in one glass at a time.  You could take the bottle back to your room if not finished.  Actually, they would deliver it. b) No limit per cost of drink except two really high dollar items.  I was drinking 1800 Silver all week long.  c) Haven Bar specialty drinks or custom drinks.  No extra cost. d) Bottled water with and without gas at no extra charge. e) specialty coffee's at no extra charge. I am NOT sure about the Starbucks, we never needed it. You make your own decision.

You can order any liquor (except two high end ones) with the premium plus package?  You are not limited to the types listed in the premium plus description?  They will deliver wine by the bottle if requested?  This is great news as I will soon be cruising Haven on the Getaway and this will make me rethink about purchasing the plus package.

The question that wasn't asked/answered was that even if you booked separate rooms, did you use two different forms of payment? If you DID use the same form of payment for both cabins, NCL may require both of you to purchase the package, per the "T&C"... I will copy/paste this from the package terms and conditions...

Packages must be purchased by all qualifying individuals residing in the stateroom or additional staterooms under the same method of payment for the entire length of the cruise.

You make a good point. Even though both cabins were paid for with the same method of payment at the same time, cabins were booked separately and each have their own confirmation number.  When selecting the upgrade only one purchase was necessary since the other in the cabin is a minor.

  7. Wife and I plus our two children.  Booked two cabins and "officially" my wife and I are in separate cabins since an adult needs to be in each room.  I plan on purchasing the Premium Plus package upgrade since I prefer top shelf but my less picky wife will have only the premium package that came as one of the perks.  My question is when I order a bottle of wine at the restaurant must I be the only one to consume it since I am the only one who has the plus package?

excuse my stupidity... but how do you use your cc in a slot machine???? I have always used cash... lets say I wanted to use 500 dollars one night do I take that out on one machine and then print voucher for the next machine????

If you use your room key instead of cash, it will be charged to your account which will be paid for by the credit card you have on file at the end of the cruise.  I believe this will be coded as travel by the credit card company.  Travel expenses on some credit cards will give you a 3% rebate and therefore offset the 3% fee.

Correct me if I'm wrong as I have not tried this yet.

  9. Think there might be a way to not pay any fees if you have the right credit card (although I have not done this yet).  Some travel cards will give you 3% cash back for purchases involving travel.  If that is the card you have on file with NCL, then I think it would be coded as travel and you would receive the 3% fee back as a cash reward from the credit card.

  10. I understand there are some thermal suite cabins on the Getaway that have a small couch instead of the chair and two tables.  Is it possible for a child to sleep on?  I realize that NCL only allows two people in these cabins but thinking of getting two cabins and having the kids share one of the cabins.  I realize they have to be 18 to use the spa but the price is much cheaper than other Haven cabins.

  11. There is no service called “port valet” that can be booked onboard. The Bags program was discontinued years ago.

The porters/valets in the port are hired after you get off the ship. The only other NCL managed option is an airport transfer where you pay at guest services and then they send you instructions and luggage tags to your cabin a day or two before disembarkation.

    https://www.visitseattle.org/things-to-do/cruise-information/port-valet/

  12. The food is what USED to be served in the MDR, without an extra charge! Yes...it's good. Is it worth an extra $40-$50 for 2? Try it, and see!

The fee does include the tip. It actually IS the tip!

That is very true. However cruising was more expensive back then (pre 1990's) so basically the food cost was built into the price.

And yes, RCCL says that the tip is included in the surcharge. Whether you want to tip more is up to you but remember you are already tipping your servers in the MDR.

  13. Simple supply and demand. As long as it is booked solid at $15 why reduce it? As I said earlier I don't agree with price but not much I can do except for not pay it.

On the Freedom cruise last September there was absolutely no one using the slide or water park in Coco Cay. My kids had some interest in the slide towards the end of the day but decided not to since they were going to charge me for a full day just for them to slide down it once! So we headed back to the ship and the slide stayed empty.

  14. Im almost just determined to use my points for the Residence Inn or Courtyard and just park at the Terminal. for the $105. That way when we get off we can just head out to 95 and head north for the seven hour drive back home.

This is exactly what we do. We rent a car for 8 days and park at the Terminal. I know it's expensive but my wife hates sitting at the Terminal with all the luggage, waiting for me if I have to go get a rental car after the cruise and I must admit is sure is nice just to walk off the ship, hop in the car and take off!

Residence Inn is the place to stay provided you have a car. They have no restaurant (they do have a free breakfast in the morning). Will be staying there for our fourth time this September.
