  1. We were on the first sailing of Allure after the ship came back to Ft. Lauderdale from having the broken pod fixed in Freeport. No passengers disembarked that morning and cabins were ready when we boarded the ship. I can't remember any longer if boarding started earlier than usual or not.

I am happy just to hear the cabins were ready at boarding!! :D

  2. I am looking at booking the Sheraton Suites Plantation for 2 nights pre cruise (11/3-11/5). Prices on anything near the beach in Ft Lauderdale is sky high due to the boat show and the Hyatt on value trips is not available for those days. :(

I have stayed in Hollywood near/on beach and would stay again as it is not too far from port but just thought we could try something different?? We will get a car so driving is not a problem. Any thoughts on the hotel and/or area??

    Thanks

  3. Not true. It depends on the person. Someone that is 125 pounds will be legally drunk before someone that is 250.

And it doesn't matter anyway. Unless you are driving there is no rule saying you can't be drunk.

It also depends on the time it takes you to drink those drinks! 1 drink every two hours will have a much different effect than 1 drink every 15 minutes!!

  4. I know this is like asking a bird not to chirp but can we cut the judgments here. Some can tolerate 6 or more drinks over a day and be just fine. Some are too tipsy after one glass of wine. This is not a black and white issue.

If you are over-served or appear over-served, a bartender may refuse service. That's all.

    I second this! Well said.

  5. Beverage discount was available last night. It listed premium on sale for $44 which was only 10%. Called C&A today and she claimed premium went up to $55 per day. I've been checking pretty often and it was $49. Ultimate looks like a good deal that is currently $49.

Anyway we saved $70 for both of us, it's better than nothing.

I am on that sailing as well, I have been watching the prices and I agree they have been $49 and $59 all along. They went "on sale" and are now $44 and $49. From watching these boards I was aware of the questionable sales so I was not very surprised!

I did not want to get into a pissing contest with customer service and I know I will drink enough (especially with the inflated drink prices ) to make buying the drink package beneficial :o ....so I went ahead and purchased the ultimate package :D.

  6. It totally depends on how much you drink. For my wife who might might have 2 drinks a day, no way.

For this guy who has a mimosa with breakfast, beer with lunch, 2-3 by the pool, a couple before dinner.. A couple with dinner... A few after dinner.. Then yes, it is worth it.

This has great information. For me the drink package is def worth it considering I drink mixed drinks, like the high end liquor and the increase in drink prices!

    Thank you

  7. We just returned from our Boston to Bermuda cruise and I wanted to share my thoughts while they are still fresh in my mind.

Overall, we had a great time. Any concerns about the Dawn being worn were for naught – the ship looks perfectly nice, with the exception of the seats in the theater which did seem to need reupholstering. The entertainment was excellent – much, much better than Princess (which is my main comparator – we have also sailed Disney, but that’s a different ball of wax). Having the Second City troupe on board was wonderful – we saw their mainstage show, a Murder Mystery lunch, a workshop, and their adult improv show. The food was pretty good, similar to Princess. Embarkation was a breeze, as was disembarkation.

The down sides: First, the ship itself didn’t have some of the features I love on the Princess ships, but that’s something I knew going into it (for example: no adult pool, no movies under the stars, no movie theater, really poor selection of movies/tv on the cabin televisions). Honestly the lack of movies at night was less of a problem than I anticipated because the evening entertainment in the theater was so good. The personal service was very variable – although we didn’t have problems getting seated in the dining rooms, some nights we had really bad service from our waiters, and most didn’t introduce themselves or ask us what we wanted to drink, or offer any advice, chat, etc. We also weren’t thrilled with our room steward – he seemed offended whenever we asked for something (and our requests were not unusual).

As for Bermuda, it was beautiful. We had arranged a private tour for the six of us with Ralph Richardson of Winsome Tours, and he was beyond fantastic – let me know if you want more info on him. The second day we took a cab to Horseshoe Bay. Taking a cab was easy, and the price is pre-set. The beach is really lovely. It has amenities (chairs to rent, changing rooms, showers, food for sale), lifeguards, and a fantastic view. The third day we went parasailing in the morning. We had planned to go to another beach, but there was a significant rainstorm so that didn’t happen.

I’m happy to answer any questions.

Thanks for the review, we leave on Dawn Friday and i am so excited! I would love info on Ralph we were thinking about doing a private tour.

    Thanks

    Sue

  8. My final thoughts of the Dawn.

Well where do I begin? I guess I’ll start with the statement that I find it hard to believe that any cruise is a bad cruise and I can make the best out of everything. Yes, things don’t go perfect every time and things are different among each ship and each cruise line, but it will never make me have a bad time.

So, now that this is stated…my thoughts of the Dawn.

So my final thoughts. REMEMBER MY FINAL THOUGHTS. The Dawn is my least favorite ship in the fleet so far. She’s at the bottom of the list. Yes, we had a blast. No I would never say “don’t go on her she’s crap”, but compared to the OTHERS in the fleet, she’s just in the worse shape IMO!!!

Now I already have her booked for this same exact cruise for the same exact time to Bermuda next year. I booked this prior to leaving for Bermuda. I’m now faced with the decision as to whether or not I want to keep this booking or cancel and pay at least $600 more just to be able to give the Breakaway a try instead. Is it worth it to me? I’ll have to weigh the facts. I’m not sure. After all, I don’t exactly cruise just for the ship. As I have said plenty of times, I can have a great time on ANY ship! My other decision comes down to…trying to sail the entire fleet on NCL. Sailing the Dawn again kind of defeats the purpose as well and if you double that up with I didn’t really care for the ship, that’s kind of a double whammy. I have a lot of thinking and decisions to make now.

    Hi Kim!

Thank you for this great review. I am doing this cruise the last week of August. I am a little disappointed to hear how bad a shape the Dawn is in, but I too will not let it ruin my party! LOL

I am very excited to see Bermuda, someplace I have always wanted to go to.

    Thanks again

BTW your pictures are amazing! My pictures NEVER look like that!

    Sue
