If you requested a refund for the cruise then any FCC that was applied would also be refunded if it was a FCC that was refundable (the 125% FCC’s). There was not an option to have that FCC kept and the new cash refunded.   You would have had to take the entire amount as an FCC in order to keep the FCC.

Good to know - happy to have my cash back - thanks for the info

  2. I was issued a FCC when my cruise in 2020 was cancelled - some it was applied to a new cruise in June of 2021- that cruise was cancelled.

So I told my TA to refund the cash I paid for the cruise and we would apply the FCC to another cruise that I had book in 2022.

I saw that the cash I paid was credited to my card but I also saw a couple of other credits from Royal that I was not expecting. After contacting my TA she said that my FCC was being refunded for that cruise (minus the 25%) and the remainder of the FCC (the part I didn't use on that cruise) would be refunded in the next month(minus the 25%).

Has this happened to anyone else?  I am happy to get the money back which has been sitting there since 2019 but I keep thinking about the 25% that I lost. I didn't request the FCC refund and I don't know if I want or can pursue this.  What do you think??

Face shield protects you from direct exposure of droplets but no filter, while better than the nothing crowd, I'll take a mask everytime.  yeah breathing is harder ( the reason is it filters the air ).

I personally I work out with baseband with N95 replaceable filter, for better or worse, like the mask look too, LOL

From what I read the N95 is different than the generic masks that people are wearing and it is a better mask and it does do a better job.

But as far as the other masks that are out there they do not filter fine droplets and does not protect you as well as a shield would (according to the expert scientist out there).

The generic masks will block your large droplets and stop them from reaching others but it is not a good choice if you want to protect yourself.

If you are looking to protect yourself and can't get one of those professional masks - Get a shield !

I am just relaying what the experts have been putting out there for the last few months.  I am not an expert.

Of course you do know that the N95 does not filter the air you are breathing out so if you are sick - the air you exhale may impact others around you.

The mask does not protect you from someone who is not wearing a mask (according to what I have read).  Small droplets from someone not wearing a mask can get through your mask.

That was what the statement was supposed to convey.

So you are dependent on people wearing masks to protect you.

But if you wear a shield you would be protecting yourself whether or not someone else is not wearing a mask or shield.

The shield puts the control in your hands and not someones else.

Sorry that I didn't word that correctly originally

From the 1 minute mark Dr. Adalja appears to be saying the opposite is true.

As to a sloppy sneeze, lift the shield off with one hand and sneeze into a handkerchief or your elbow, better than sneezing into a mask that would have to be tossed or washed.

Will give these gizmos a real tryout once I get them.....

The word out is that the mask will stop large droplets (like those from the person who is wearing it) but it will not stop all of the smaller droplets (floating in the air from someone else).

So the wearer will contain those large droplets in the mask and will breath them in all day. I guess that is not a problem either.

Looks interesting.. I ordered 5 and will have a review from a few heathcare workers after they arrive.

Nice video comparing masks to shields -  of course they fail to mention that using the shield protects you and using the mask does not necessarily protect you but tends to protect others - which is a key point regarding masks

  7. Again the choice is to whether you want to protect yourself or if you want to keep pointing at people who don't where masks.  A shield is protection for you which is important - right?  A mask is protection for someone else - which is nice but who wants to rely on someone else to protect you.   My choice would be a shield and it seems in the Science world they would agree.

  8. From what I have read over the last few months is that everyone should wear a mask - not to protect yourself but to protect others.  After reading this I would ask why wouldn't you want to add the shield so that you are protecting yourself and not being so dependent on others to protect you?  Just a thought/question

Only if the fcc was from a cruise rcl cancelled

Yes, it was fcc from a cruise rcl cancelled. TA says that they don't think that I can submit the request for a full refund if the FCC was applied to another cruise.  I had to apply it to another cruise just to see how much of it would be used.

Just trying to figure out if I still have the refund option

Your TA gave you incorrect information.  FCC’s can only be applied to the guests that were issued them.

not sure how your FCC can be less than what your refund would have been.  Once you use your FCC for you and your wife any remaining amount will be reissued as a new FCC once that cruise is complete.

Your TA may include what is called non commissionable cruise fare in the line for taxes on their invoice.  Royal does not list it this way and it screws people up when TA’s do.  The only way to tell for sure is to ask your TA for the guest copy of Royals booking invoice.   With the numbers you listed it appears that is what they have done as the non commissionable cruise fare is usually higher than the taxes.

Thanks for the information -  I did fail to put in that I would be getting remaining amount in a new FCC but I am not sure that I would be able to use that before it would expire.   So I believe with the information you supplied I probably should go for the refund - so I can insure the most money is used.  Thanks again for your help

  11. I received my FCC voucher after they cancelled my cruise for 4/4/20 for my wife and myself.  I re-booked a cruise for next year and added my son and his girlfriend onto the booking.  My TA initially said after talking with Royal said that any excess FCC (after applying to my wife and myself) can be applied to the other two guests.   Well today she said Royal said NO -  so the amount being applied would be less then the refund I would get if I decided not to take the FCC.

Does anyone know what anything about this or what the protocol is?

Also, I received a refund from Royal for about $233 which I assume is to taxes and fees but I think it should be closer to $700 - is this a partial? or should I try a to contact them.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thanks
