hello not looking for a lecture but as an occasional smoker does anybody know the locations of these please

There are 2 areas on deck 18, the main one is at the back by the Panorama Bar & pool on the starboard side, you will see the sm oking is allowed signs,  the other is by the mid lifts.

  2. I have to say I found some of the rules very strange on our Arvia cruise last week, we didnt want to do formal night so I wore shorts and a shirt and went to 6th street diner, was told you cant come in wearing shorts, I said this is an american diner no one wears trousers in a diner butnthey said as its formal night you have to wear trousers so off I went to change came back and we went in to join the other 4 people in there !!!!.

Another night we had the Oliver Grove booked so phoned reception to ask if shorts were ok and they said yes no problem so what about Andersons bar next door ah I cant answer that, so even though you have 2 restaurants within 20 feet of Andersons bar both allowing shorts you cant wear them in Andersons, where it gets more stupid is when they gave us a bleeper in the Olive Grove she said it will only work in Andersons which we couldnt go in !!!!!

On Arvia 2pm -4.30 pm weather permitting. This is certainly the case on sea days. However in La Romana yesterday it got really ramped up from 4pm until 7pm as they tried desperately to create some sort of party atmosphere. Can I just add I expect background music at a bar which is fine, you can hear it but it's not intrusive but this is something else.

I have to say im surprised by all the comments re loud music from the Sunset Bar, we returned last weekend from the 14 day Arvia cruise and we had a suite cabin on deck 9 right above the bar and for all the time there we never heard any loud music and we did use our balcony every day for long periods, we also had our freinds with us who had balcony cabins and they would end up in the Sunset Bar every afternoon so when we saw them down there would join them and again never any loud music.

Sure there was music playing but never to a volumn that was unacceptable so I can only assume something has changed this week.

  4. Was reading on the Arvia FB page that the Maleth flight from Gatwick had been switched to Heathrow and was now a Virgin flight !!!!!,  not sure the excat flight but someone was moaning re car parking and hotels booked for the wrong airport, apparantly this was caused by Maleth being 2 aircraft short.

Do you think P & O had wished they had never heard of Maleth ?????

Thanks. Yes, just checked and now appeared. We have 11 “Black Tie” nights (as they are described - thought they were now Celebration or Formal nights) which out of 65 nights seems manageable. Two a week would have been too much. All sea days.

On our 14 night cruise in January its showing 1 celebration  night and 1 black tie night both on sea days, can someomne explain whats the difference ??

    cheers

  6. We took our family to Potters Hopton for Halloween, as others have said we found it very good value especially nowm its all inclusive, for the dining there was 9 of us and you get your own table for all meals so no worrying about having to find a table every time.

We had booked the bungelows for our son & daughter & families but we thought we would spash out and booked what they class as their Penthouse Suite in the hotel which compares to any suites on a cruise ship, very large bed, a lounge area with  sofa & chairs, kitchen area and a huge bathroom with whirlpool bath, the balcony was massive with sun loungers and table & chairs and looked out towards the sea.

Loads of activities including archey, tem pin bowling, rifle shooting and even a full size golf karting track so all in all we felt it was a good choice, the only negative I would say is the swimming pool is quite small for the amount of guests.

You can only book Keel & Cow onboard and not pre cruise.

Oh ok, so on the other restaurants where you do pay a deposit would you get this refunded if you were to cancel once onboard.

Also if you were able to book for freinds I assume you would have to pay there deposit or would that go onto their account if you put in their cabin number

Don't forget that if you book Speciality Restaurants in advance you have to pay for them at time of booking and you cannot use OBC but you do get 20% discount on the price.

    Hi,

Just thinking when you say you have to pay at the  time of booking how does this work if you were to bookthe Keel & Cow where you pay for items off the menu so not a fixed charge, also if you do pay when pre booking are you able to cancel when onboard and get the money refunded ?

    cheers

We arranged to meet for breakfast and made a plan for the day. Part of that plan was to arrange a time to call our cabins in the evening to arrange dinner. Not very difficult at all. We didn't want to be in each others pockets all day anyway.

Oh well , it seems we will have to agree to dis-agree, we go on holiday with out freinds as we want to spend time together whereas you seem to have different objectives but HeyHo everyone is different and thats what makes forums like this so interesting.

You could just arrange to meet at a certain time!!!

the problem with that is on our Princess cruise last August there was always problems trying to find any seating on sea days so luckily we had the medallion system where we could see where we all were on board otherwise it would have meant we wouldm be walking all over the place trying to meet up, I imagine P & O dont offer anything like this for free to force you into buying their wifi package.

Log on to cruise personaliser. Click ‘my orders’ at the top. Find the relevant order (you have to use the down arrows

to open). Click ‘Cancel’ and then confirm the cancellation.

As I said I get this message when I click on my orders, but I received an email confirming the wifi package when i booked it a few months ago, maybe I will have to call them.

You currently have no orders placed.

Thank you.  Rebooked internet for £16 saving and also just short of £5.00 each on my husband's three thermal spa booking.

Unfortunately my excursions are too popular to be included but a good result.

    Hi Ya,

Could you let me know how you cancel the wifi package, I have looked on my orders but it says I dont have any even though  I received an email confirming that I had booked it, I also booked a birthday package for our freind and this is now cheaper but again I cant see it showing anywhere.

    thanks

  13. Hi,

Have been reading online that on P & O au you can keep in touch with family and freinds onboard by using the My Holiday app/web page and you are able to message them via your phonewithout having a wifi package, Im sure I know what the answer will be but does this work on Arvia, we have a cruise in January and although we have booked the wifi package our freinds havnt so trying to work out the best way to keep in touch other than the cabin phones.

    cheers

  14. Quote "Some people wrongly assumed they would be flying Tui and ended up on Maleth. The majority of those people were never flying Tui in the first place and had never been given flight details with any hint of Tui."

Not true in our case, I booked for 6 of us and we all had TUI in our flight details, it was only in September that 4 of us received emails saying P & O had changed the flights to Malath, when I spoke to P & O about this they informed me that anyone who had confirmation their flights would be with TUI would not be changed but it made no difference.

They must have known in August when we booked the situation re flights so I can understand them saying that some people would be advised as to what airline they would be going on was the correct thing to do but in our case we had confirmation that it would be on TUI.

It is not easy for P and O to decide who they don't like the sound of when they book!   But we all know  exactly what you mean, majortom.  Hard to say more without sounding very snobby and superior.

A cheap cruise with the added incentive of an inclusive drinks package will inevitably lead to too many 'party people' who behave badly, sadly.

Could I just clarify where you mention about the incentive of an inclusive drinkls package, we are on Arvia in January and we havnt been offered any drinks package other the one you have to pay for.

The one in Grays is just by lakeside shopping centre and we are going by there on monday so will give it a try, thanks for the info.

Well we found the ATM at Sainsbury today, saw the machine and above it said this machine only has dollars and euros so thought great thats the one, put our Revolut catd in and got a notice saying this machine does not accept this card !!!!!!!!!, it seems you can only use normal UK debot or credit cards so someone can give you dollars but charge an exchange fee.

I will phone Revolut and see what they have to say.

Our local Sainsbury's (Southampton) has an ATM which dispenses only euros and dollars.  May be worth investigating whether there is something similar local to you.

I see you are from Essex.  How close are you to Grays or Abbey Wood Sainsburys?  They also appear to have ATMs that dispense dollars which you could use on the islands.

  18. Hi,

We have a revoult card with US dollars on as on Previous Princess cruise it was better finacially to transfer sterling to dollars as the exchange rate is far better and then pay our onboard account in dollars but now we are on Arvia in january and any standing accounts will be paid in sterling so Im wondering if its possible to withdraw dollars in cash to use on the islands, either onboard the ship or from an ATM on one of the islands.

Has anyone done this in the past and if so was there any charges for withdrawing cash, in the past we have only used the revolut card to pay for purchases.

    Thanks

    Rob

  19. Thanks for that, another thing I saw was that the butler can book specialty restaurants so does this mean you dont have to pre book before you sail and as we have freinds with us in balacony cabins would the butler be able to book tables for all of us ?

    thanks again

  20. Hi,

I did try a search but couldnt find the answer to my questions which areI know one of the benifits is inclusive room service which I assume means you can order anything without any extra charges but does this includes drinks, also I see that mini suite and full suite guests are invited to a welcome abord lunch but when would this take place as our cruise to the caribbean has 2 embarkcation days so I wouldnt have though they would do 2 so not sure when this would take place.

    cheers

  21. Quote "It depends on the aid.  I can get around a cabin and to the toilet, but cannot walk much further than that and I have never been asked to have an accessible cabin on  P & O, including IONA.  All welfare forms have always been filled out.  Admittedly my mobility scooter is very small, only 17  kilos, which we just fold up and put in the cabin."

This is interesting as we wanted to take my wifes mobility scooter but after filling out the accessability form P & O informed us we would not be able to bring it onboard as we had not booked either an accessability cabin or one of the deignated cabins on their list.

We even upgrade to a full suite for the extra room and told P & O the scooter was the folding type and was not going to be used in the cabin just when out but still no joy, they did recommend a hire company but when I phone them they do not hire in the caribbean so all P & O have allowed is for us to bring either a manual or motorised wheelchair, we have looked at a hire company here in the UK which does a manual wheelchair but has a small motor hooked on the back with a single wheel which means it becomes motorised but looking at £300 to hire it for a couple of weeks.

So have you taken a mobility scooter on board without booking one of the desingated cabins ?

    cheers
