  1. Bought shore excursion tickets through Celebrity. Expensive, but includes breakfast, lunch, seating, restrooms and bus transportation. We had enough onboard credit to cover almost all of it. Also booked the riverboat on Tuesday. Anyone else?

  2. You won't really see much more on either side of the river while coming to New Orleans but you will be docked there for 3 days and usually the ship docks with the starboard side to the dock facing the city,

So you have a choice, you can view the city and a little Mardi Gras action on the starboard side for 3 days or you can view the river and passing ships on the port side for 3 days.

Will be actually be able to see any of the parades from the ship? Which would be the closest to walk to!

  3. We leave for Basel two weeks from yesterday to board the Amacerto for an Enchanting Rhine cruise. We ew hoping the weather warms up there! Very excited for our first river cruise, too. Lois, it would be fun to compare notes when we return.

  4. You'll get instant results when you Google for information. It's about 1/2 hour by car and 19 minutes by train!

I saw that. I am hoping someone can tell me whether the ship will run a shuttle and how often.

    Thanks.

  5. I was just notified by Ama that our cruise on the Amacerto will dock at Gambshein for Strasbourg. Has this happened to anyone else? How long is the bus ride? We are there till midnight. Will there be shuttles through the day and evening?

Thanks. We are river cruise newbies and I'm not sure how this impacts our trip.

  6. We are just off the NCL Escape. We had the ultimate dining package and loved the opportunity to eat in the specialty restaurants every night. O'Sheehans is great for breakfast and lunch and the grandkids loved Margaritaville. The entertainment was fantastic! We appreciated the variety, especially Howl at the Moon and the comedy club. The cruise staff and kids club staff were really good. Lots to do; not just trivia like Celebrity.

We are currently on the Eclipse. Will post a comparison when we return.

  7. DH and I are long time X cruisers - Elite+. However, we loved the Breakaway and will be cruising on the Escape before our Eclipse cruise next month. We chose the Escape because we are doing that leg with our family, and NCL has great options for kids. We chose Eclipse for the itinerary (14 days).

We thought the specialty restaurants on NCL were terrific. Ate in O'Sheehans Pub almost every morning. Dinners, especially th Le Bistro and Cagneys were as good as X specialty restaurants and much less expensive. Entertainment - NCL wins by miles! There are great options, including the late night Howl at the Moon. Activities were well run, unlike X where there's not much happening during the day if you don't do trivia.

  8. I happen to thank Swank803 for his posts as it brought to light that things can and do happen that most of us are unaware of. Without his posts, the entire matter would have been swept under Celebrity's carpet. In the many many posts on his threads folks have become aware and will be more conscious and careful of their belonging.

I think that your comment about him secretly relishing the drama of it all is an insult. He has been very open and even taken a lot of flack from posters but still responded and kept us informed of the ongoing issue.

I agree that this is a good reminder of how careful we need to be. We often leave a laptop or iPad out to charge on the desk in our cabin. I don't always keep the jewelry I bring in the safe (although none of it is expensive, some of it has sentimental value). We will be on Eclipse in February and everything that has or looks like it has some value will be locked in the safe when we leave the cabin.

  9. Hi Lars,

DH and I are on the Rotterdam and will be in Alesund on September 1 from 9 am to 11 pm. We are going to do a tour of Romsdahl and the Troll Path, because we prefer not to drive ourselves. We will be back at the ship about 5:30 pm.

What would you suggest that we can do in the town once we have a chance to freshen up? Would shopping be open? Where would you recommend for dinner? We'd like to spend a little time in town since we have until at least 10 pm before we'd have to be back onboard.

    Thanks in advance!

  10.

It was not a very busy day in town and we negotiated a tour incl. Bayona and Vigo lasting 4 hrs for 25 Euros in cash per person.

Just be aware that not very many of the cab drivers speak English fluently and the taxi drivers are not tour guides offering you a wealth of info. It took us a little while to find a driver we could communicate with. So read up on your destinations ahead of time.

    Regards

    Petra

Thank you Petra. I found an well-reviewed English speaking guide who is going to do a tour for 15 of us to Vigo and Baiona for 40 Euros per person. i really prefer a tour guide with lots of info to share and definitely fluent in English. I'll post for future cruisers when we return.

I have not personally used this company but have been emailing with them regarding a tour in September. We can't seem to make up a group so the price would be too high to go alone but the woman I have been in contact with has been helpful in making suggestions to bring the cost down. We were hoping to go to Santiago from Vigo.

    Gayle,

I just contacted Laura at tours4cruisers.com. She's very quick to respons and tours seem reasonable. Perhaps they have a tour with space on your date. Good luck.

  12. I contacted Spain Day Tours in early July about a Vigo tour. They said they would confirm us once they had the minimum number of people for a group so I said I'd fill the group from our roll call. Although I sent them all the names and email addresses, it took them 11 days to let us know they couldn't accommodate us. I have booked and participated in private tours all over the world, as well as booking them for my clients, and this is by far the worst company I've ever encountered. We've had great experiences with other tour companies in Spain in the past but this is inexcusable.

  13. I'm looking for a private tour recommendation in Vigo.

Can anyone suggest another tour company for 13 passengers?

    Thanks!!
