  1. I think it's a few issues - many people choose self-disembark. More honestly than I think customs can handle in one swoop at that port. The other issue was customs, just about 6 agents and they didn't hesitate to say the lower room was full and then all movement stopped. We got stuck at top of the escalators and they were literally just letting 30 people down at a time once customs gave the green light. 2500 people, 30 at a time - that's a slow process. And of course people with early flights were panicking and agents let them cut the line which led to a lot of grumbling.

IMO, they need to re-think the self-disembarkation process in that particular port.

  2. Did either of you have the UBP? If so, did you pay taxes on drinks while in port(s)? If so, do you remember what the average tax was?

Did either of you use the Thermal Spa? Thoughts?

    Thanks in advance!!

    No spa, sorry.

Yes, had UBP. Paid port taxes for drinks in NYC and FL - I want to say no more than $1-1.50 on most drinks. Don't think we paid port taxes in Nassau but not 100% sure.

  3. Glad to hear you all had a great time other than missing GSC. How was the entertainment? Was Leo and Ted Kaminski (magician) on board? How did you like the CD?

Didn't see Leo and Ted. Honestly not sure who the CD was, barely saw or heard him all week.

  4. Do you know anyone who did the Thermal spa pass? Looking for reviews of how that experience was.

Did you park at the pier and is the coupon just for Gem passengers still working?

    Didnt use the spa, sorry.

Yes, parked at pier and coupon was honored - $210 for the week.

  5. The email confirmation you received will have a like to upgrade your bids - if you click on it from a PC, you can modify the bid to see where in the range it is, and just cancel without changing it (or update it if you choose.)

Thank you so much for posting this! I have been regretting our "poor" bid, and couldn't find anywhere on-line in my Vacation Summary to modify it! I found the upgrade email and updated our bid.

  6. We sailed on the Dawn when my DD was 2. There is no drop-off option at that age. There was a conference room set up with a few toys that was open I believe all day. In addition, daily there was an organized activity - i.e. face painting, Lego's, etc.

I won't get into the pool discussion as we took the cruise to Bermuda so it was a quick walk to the beach where she happily splashed and played for hours.

  7. Sailing from NY is always risky late-August through October as that is when we traditionally get hit with the big storms - Hurricane Gloria, Hurricane Irene and Super Storm Sandy.

That being said, we have sailed out of NY a number of times in August and were always okay.

  8. Not a loyalist, but it doesn't affect whether I'd pick NCL or another line.

I never understood the allure of hauling heavy cases of water and soda onboard to begin with (not to mention the other crazy stuff people bring with them on cruises), but to each their own.

There's no beverage or food that I couldn't do without, which would cause me to cancel a vacation. Now, if they told me I couldn't bring my hairdryer...that's another story!

The bottom line is this...cruises are more popular than ever - NCL in particular is very popular. Until ships start sailing half-empty, they can pretty much raise prices wherever they want. For every one person who cancels with NCL, there are two or three people behind them to take their place.

Exactly my thoughts. In all our cruises, we have never taken on soda or water, I never saw the need.

For us, NCL gives us exactly what we are looking for. Airfare is generally our deciding factor, so I glance at other cruises departing from NY/NJ, but NCL is still the best for our buck.
