  1. Has anyone gone to the Azores? We stopped here as a port of call a couple of years ago when we were travelling on the Noordam transatlantic cruise. I can't seem to find any threads with regard to this port of call.

If anyone has any information on where to stay on Sao Miguel, it would be greatly appreciated. Or where I can find info on this website. Thank you.

  2. Why don't you make a complete loop and then decide where you want to explore and get off at that stop next time around?

    Mike:)

That's exactly what we did except once you've made a complete loop, they gave everyone get off. I guess to be fair to others waiting.

We got off the second time at the animal rescue shelter. It was interesting. Then walked over to old Union fort ruins on beach which has been turned into botanical gardens. Lovely. History and beauty rolled into one.

  3. I think my dad would panic with missing the ship.

We are only in port from 7:30 (what a waste- buses do not start running until 9) and leaving at 2 so need to be onboard by 1:30

doesnt leave a lot of time to do that.

I do know we want to get off at Southern Most point.. and mile marker zero

This tour doesn't take that long at all. We were just there. Key West is not very big. The whole loop mighy take 3/4 of an hour. You get on and off at the different stops. Open air trolley. Driver gives you a history of the place as well. Very informative.

  4. Actually, the deck 4 VB cabins are pretty nice. I believe the verandas on the VBs on deck 4 are larger than the verandas on the Vs on deck 5, 6 and 7. Friends of ours had a deck 4 VB on our last cruise on Westerdam and were very happy with the cabin and veranda.

It seems like almost all of the VBs on deck 4 are connecting cabins.

    Oh that sounds good. Thanks.

  5. A few years ago I booked a post cruise shorex with HAL. We took a bus to the Everglades (luggage stowed in bottom) and then got in an airboat a la CSI Miami. Saw Everglades wildlife and learned a lot about gators. Went to wildlife center and saw more wildlife, including Pitt Panther and Penn State Nitanny Lion wintering in Florida. Got back on bus and dropped off at FLL. Sure beat sitting in the airport all day, and the cruise crowds has disspated.

This is what we plan to do the day of the turn around in FLL. Going on an airboat ride in the Everglades has been on my bucket list for quite awhile.

  6. Thank you all for your kind comments.

We went back to a Main Deck outside after the SS and did fine. Our next two cruises after Hawaii are outsides, one with portholes (Ryndam, Aug. 1, 2015 is selling fast). We enjoy wherever we are. And while we enjoy comfort, neither of us enjoys being fussed over. So we're viewing this as a unique "one off" for us. HAL beds are heavenly no matter what your cabin category.

That's for sure. We love the beds also!

  7. My DH and I usually book one HAL tour but for the rest of the ports we do our own thing. We have had wonderful private tours and sometimes organized with other passengers through the Roll Call thread. We do find HAL's excursions to be overpriced and you are only as fast as the slowest person on the excursion with you.

Rick Steves' books as others have said are invaluable. While walking through historic Rome, we had his book in hand all the time and would read the information as we stopped at each site. The maps and advice are wonderful. We researched before going for a number of weeks and read and highlighted things of importance to know in his tour book for Rome.

  8. Has anyone done this excursion? We are on a B2B cruise onboard HAL in December if all goes as planned and we have to get off the ship in Ft. L. before our second leg of the cruise. HAL is offering this excursion but we are wondering if there would be a long wait to get through Customs and how that is worked out for returning passengers?

    Thanks.

  9. That's great! Congratulations on the excellent cabin.

    22 days out - nice.

We board on the 7th of Dec for the two week B2B. As I gaze out my window at the falling snow and frigid temps. I am getting more excited to feel the warmth.

We have a verandah guarantee but still no assignment. Keeping my fingers crossed !!!
