Yes, its added to the package (at least if you purchase prior to cruise).  But it never hurts to have a few $1 bills in your hand as you go up to the bar to add to it, I've always found that helps with expedited service etc...

So it’s not 18% of each drink?   Let’s say the package costs me $420 ($60 a day times 7 days). I will pay 18% on the $420?

  2. I have a question and seen different answers related to the added 18% tip.   Is the 18% added to the price of the package or added to each drink?  I saw some old comments on this forum that said it was 18% of the cost of the package but that can’t be right.

Carnival's focus has always been novice cruisers, typically a younger crowd. It has expanded more in recent years to include gamblers. There is no shortage of either and both are risk takers.

Not sure I agree with this.  I think that Carnival has focused on providing a product that is more affordable.  A natural byproduct of that would be novice cruisers so it might seem that a large percentage of cruisers are novice.  They definitely target a younger crowd which never bothered me.

  4. Another thing we take with us are the inexpensive blow up pool floats.  You can buy a pack of three at walmart for about $4 and they lay flat in your suitcase.  We use them on our private island day and then find a family with kids and give the floats to them when we leave

  5. First let me say that my thoughts and prayers are with this family and all affected by this terrible tragedy.

That being said, the video makes it clear why doing dangerous activities on these islands should be avoided. The police and EMT capabilities of these countries are just not what we are used to in the US and other major countries. I am sure the first responders did everything they could. I find myself wondering if the gentleman would have survived had additional emergency response personnel been available to attend to him.

  6. No , You cannot switch from YTD to then go sit one night in the assigned dining area. Those people with early/late dining are assigned a time (early or late) and then are assigned a specific table with specific tablemates.

You cannot just join them at will.

IF you have YTD then you can eat anytime you choose as if you were in a restaurant on land. You can still ask to get the same wait staff each night if you like them. You just ask to be seated in the same area and they will get to know you and your needs. The folks who have YTD have a separate section of the dining room so only those folks can be there. Your group will have to decide which sort of dining they prefer and then stick to that.

There is no guarantee that you will get the same wait staff if you are on Anytime Dining. You can ask but if their tables are full, they will seat you somewhere else. Or you can wait until a table opens up but the wait could be long. We have tried this many times and I would say its 50/50 you will be able to get the same staff each night.

  7. Personally, I think giving only a 90 day notice on a major policy change is not good a good business decision. If they would've announced the effective date, of say Jan. 2015, hardly anybody would be affected with hotel or airline cancellations. You have to know that the beards in Miami have been contemplating the change for a while now, but apparently didn't give enough thought on the impact to a portion of their customers.

Good Point cruiseman. Giving only a 90 day notice almost ensures a major impact as many bookings as most people book cruises more than 90 days out. There is no reason why they could not have gone with January 1 or even April 1. In fact, giving a longer notice would have had a smaller impact $ wise.

Another example of brilliant planning on carnival's part.

BTW I am a non-smoker (occasionally a cigar) and dont have a dog in this fight.

  8. We were on the Glory 6/14 to 6/21 and there were no table clothes except for the two elegant nights. Didnt think i would like it but actually turned out to be a non-issue.

Also, no problems with condensation as some have suggested.

  9. I dont think this will have a significant impact on Carnival bookings either way. I know several have said they will cancel their booking but I am sure they will be replaced by non-smokers who are thrilled they can now book a balcony without having to worry about getting "smoked out".

I am not a smoker although I will enjoy a cigar from time to time. I am more worried about where all the smokers are going to go. As others have said, they have few options left. The smoke haters may regret this when they now find themselves smoked out of the casino or find themselves walking through a haze of smoke as the pass the casino or on the lido.

  10. Just got off the Glory on June 21. Never had any problems and found the ship to be clean and the staff very friendly.

I no longer read CruiseCritic reviews. Sorry, they tend to be very subjective and often not an accurate reflection.

There were somethings i didnt like about the cruise but they were not related to the ship. Did not like the new playlist shows. Loved the new menu. Loved Guys Burgers and Blue Iguana. Dont understand why the mini golf and basketball court close at 5pm.

  11. Can I ask a quick question regarding applying for a price drop? So far I've been successful but I've read of people getting the price drop but loosing the OBC they have already got. Under what circumstances does this happen? I don't want to loose the small amount of OBC I have managed to accrue!

    Freedom b2b Sept 2014

    Splendor Jan 2014

    Breeze Sept 2013

    Imagination Sept 2013

    Triumph Sept 2008

    Pride Sept 2007

    Miracle Sept 2006

My understanding is that if you booked under a promo (Sale) that had OBC as a perk, you will lose that OBC. IF the OBC you have is from a previous price drop, you wont lose it.

  12. I love reading these dress code threads with all of the back and forth. My question is why does this topic generate so much disagreement? What makes being on a cruise any different than everyday life? By that I mean people wear tshirts to casual restaurants like Olive Garden and Chilis, so why does anyone expect it would be any different aboard a ship?

Personally I like wearing polo shirts more than tshirts, but just because someone is wearing the latter doesn't mean it's going to impact me whatsoever. You are on vacation after all, so being comfortable is important. As long as it's not elegant night I don't see the harm in it but that's just me.

I agree with you Conshy. It doesnt bother me. I was just advising the OP that carnival does not enforce rules consistently so what some have experienced on their cruise may not be what the Op will see on their cruise.

Thats my biggest beef with Carnival. If you are going to have rules then enforce them. if not, then dont have rules.

  13. i can help you with your second question..you will be gold for the entire cruise on which you become gold.

We did the Cabana on Grand Turk a few years ago and I am pretty sure we selected the one we wanted when we booked. Maybe some one else has a better memory on this.
