  1. Yes, it's always wise to be extra cautious...

Unfortunately we just made the decision to cancel our 18 day cruise for next Feb. ( New Zealand to Tahiti ) because final payment was coming due.

With so many unknowns for even the beginning of 2021, just thought it would be the prudent thing to do.

Like so many, looking towards better times Ahead!!

  2. TLC,

I have another question but it's related to your flights on this trip.  Did you do this through Oceania or on your own and wondering whether your flights are convenient for your departure in Papeete?  Know you will disembark the vessel in the a.m.

Trying to figure out the best route and airlines specifically from Papeete to U.S. west coast.

    Thanks,

    Globe

Some lovely shots from the Aquarium.

  3. Thanks TLC for such wonderful reporting on your trip.  Photos are great too!!  The ship looks to be in good shape.

Am definitely interested as we are scheduled to do this same cruise in Feb. next year.

Would like to know how the waters are throughout the journey as I do have some issues with motion.

Have been on the Regatta previously but on itineraries that didn't really involve much in the way of very open seas.

Will continue to enjoy your upcoming postings.

    Thanks,

    Globe

  4. For anyone who might be interested in Arosa, I have finally written a little review ( in river cruise review section ) of our experience on the Silva vessel during a Danube cruise last Spring.

  5. Thought this next bit of information was quite interesting regarding the newer area of Viking Ocean Cruises. Was looking at a Norwegian Fjord cruise on one of their vessels for Spring 2017, "supposedly" at a 2 for 1 pricing ( just reminds me of Oceania's regular advertising mode ) and read that in order to get in on this great savings they required deposit by the end of Oct. and full payment by the end of this year...

Now that is a bit much I think for them to have the use of your $$ for a full year and a half before the cruise even takes place!! 👎🏻👎🏻

  6. Thank you Notamermaid for your response.

I am presently in Germany which is how I came to hear of this particular company. Have done a little more research and now we are in contact with a travel agency here, so able to get more info.

Yes, Phoenix does seem to have a good reputation so we will look further into this river cruise on the Gloria in more detail.

    Thank you again.

  7. Wondering if anyone may have dealt with this German outfit or knows of this particular vessel? Considering a 10 day river cruise from Lyon to Lyon on a Scylla ( Swiss vessel ) MS Gloria for early Summer 2016.

A little difficult to find a lot of specific info on this European Company and/or this particular vessel.

Hoping to read more detail on the ship, service, food etc.

    Many Thanks for any help.

  8. Thank you Notamermaid and others for your comments and appreciate the link. As stated, it does seem there are positive reviews overall and I do hope some of the initial kinks have been worked out!! Now know that the all-inclusive we will be getting does include all alcohol ( wine, beer, spirits ) but just one excursion. Not much of a drinker at the best of times but I guess it's a nice perk to have. And we haven't often done organized cruise line excursions in the past as we prefer doing these on our own using small private outfits, as well as wandering around on our own, which I'm sure can easily be done on this type of cruise. On our first river cruise, I will look forward to an enjoyable time overall with some lovely scenery, comfortable accommdations and hopefully tasty cuisine...:):)

  9. Thank you again steamboats. We have been told that our cruise is all inclusive and it was actually booked overseas through a German agency, so I assume this particular cruise might not be one specifically marketed to North Americans. I expect there will be a lot of Europeans on board. The ship does look comfortable and modern in the pictures.

  10. Thank you steamboats. I just viewed a North American brochure for the company and I think announcements etc. will be in English and German as well as both languages from the crew. Not too concerned about this issue though as my spouse is a native German, so I have my own personal translator:):).

I just wondered what the overall experience might be like on one of their vessels, but it looks like they are very new to the N. American market, so not many reviews or opinions available.

This will be our first River Cruise experience and most of our Ocean cruises have been with Oceania, as we prefer the smaller vessels and casual dress codes. We are booked now, so I hope this will be a pleasant experience.

  11. Wondering if there are any comments or info about Arosa River Cruises as we had been looking at Amadeus/Luftner but now considering Arosa for a Danube cruise from Passau, Germany, as it seems the available sailing dates with Arosa will work better for us. The vessel is the newer Silva.

    Many Thanks

  12. Hi,

Considering our first River cruise and looking at a Danube cruise from Luftner on the Amadeus Brilliant ( Passau to Passau ). Would appreciate any comments about this vessel and cruise line.

Also wondering what deck would be best for a good view but with a quieter cabin location. If on the top cabin deck, would the sun deck above be an issue for much noise?

Thank you for any comments or advice that can be provided.

  13. I have definitely spoiled myself on the Oceania cruises I've been on and opted to have my hair washed and styled in the salon. It is an extravagance for sure with the prices charged, but I think of it as an extra little perk when on a cruise vacation:):) And I've always been pleased with the stylists I've had.
