Hello fellow Bermuda travelers! I understand Bermuda is not quite as casual as the Caribbean. We are planning a beach day at Horseshoe Bay, and plan to utilize local buses for transportation. Will it be okay to wear swimsuit and coverup on the bus, or will we need to wear shorts/shirts and then change at the beach?

If you are not a priority boarder, you would have picked a "time to arrive at the port" which is predominantly displayed on your eDocs
Not always true. I religiously logged on to My NCL daily so that I could chose an early boarding time. This option was never available for me, and when my e-docs were ready, I noticed NCL had assigned me a boarding time of their choosing.

Yes, I believe it was Mitsugirly's review. I think I've read it 3 or 4 times over the past year, dreaming about my upcoming Bermuda cruise! Very well-written review.

I can appreciate everyone's opinion of their cruise....good or bad. I do think that we all go on our cruise with different temperaments and expectations. One person's "big deal" is another person's, "no biggy". So while I try to read between the lines and respect each persons view I don't make my choices based upon anyone's review. I gather information from them and pick out the things I know might not sit well with me and adjust my expectations somewhat. I love NCL...and try to go on any cruise with an open mind, a happy heart that I am even on a cruise, and go with the flow. I likely will not end my vacation without a few complaints here and there, but those complaints never define my experience or good. time...unless the ship sinks.
This. DH and I always travel this way. And, we seem to experience more "no biggies" than "big deals". Could be because we go into it with the right attitudes, or because we're not terribly hard to please, but it makes for better-than-average vacations, lol.

If you have a driver due to pick you up at 9 you're going to have to disembark well before final call, which will be somewhere in the 10 to 10:30 range. You should do self assist because the first colored tag is not likely to disembark early enough to get you through customs in time for your scheduled pick up.
Thanks for the insight. Self assist it is, then. It's certainly a bummer to think about disembarking!

We waited until the final call for debark on the March 26 sailing (April 2 debark) and while the line was quite long it moved very quickly - probably ~25 minutes from the time we joined the queue to climbing in a cab across the West Side Highway.
So, what time is final call? Still debating whether to do self assist, first colored tag, or last colored tag. We have a driver arriving for us at 9:00 AM.

Is there an "included" breakfast in Margaritaville? With an omelette station?

Looking forward to your review. We will be on the Breakaway in 3 weeks, and it's good to hear your positive remarks!

I think Vibe passes on the Breakaway are now $99 for the week.

Sometimes it's easy and sometimes it's not.Two chairs tied together with a towel, reserving. One flipflop on one chair and one on another, reserving.
And I'm almost sure the folks who come out in their robes and pajamas to leave towels before making a quick exit (presumably to return to bed) are reserving

My first cruise ever was on Disney. Honestly, I tell my friends who ask, to save their money. For the price difference, balcony-to-balcony, I personally didn't feel it was worth it.

I am getting so ready to go! Everything that has been mentioned on this thread has put me over the moon with excitement!
-
I have eaten at The Pickled Onion, Hog Penny and Flanagans. I liked all three. They probably have their menues online.
Thanks! I'll check them out.

Thanks Charles! I have been anxiously awaiting this announcement, hoping it would indeed begin May 3. Can you recommend a restaurant in Hamilton for dinner that night?

I have trip insurance but it is not cancel for any reason. I plan on giving them a call today anyway.
His company knew but they dont care. It is a yearly thing that had been scheduled for another date but they changed to to this week. He would be fired if he didnt go and Id much rather try to work around it than have to deal with looking for recourse through his company.
I can bring my daughter but was wondering what the penalty fee would be if I did. If its does wind up being the 75% I would probably just end up going alone. Fun... :(
You might try to simply add your daughter as a third person in the cabin, then "no show" your husband at check in. I'm not sure, but I think you would be due a refund for the port taxes portion of his cruise fare.

The new layout works fine for me. In fact, I find it easier to read. As they say, your mileage may vary.
I think you and I are the only two here who think this! :)

Any chance NCL may now start charging an upcharge for bacon?[emoji33]
Hush! Don't give 'em any ideas!!

The new operator of the Horseshoe Bay concessions is not happy with the timeline.

Interesting article. Thanks for the link.

Since there is no mention of ship pins, I guess I won't get my Breakaway pin in April. :(

OP, having sailed both Carnival and NCL, I believe I can say that you will LOVE NCL. Freestyle sends my vacation up a notch: no formal nights, dining when, where, and with whom I want. And that Bermuda itinerary! I can't wait for my cruise in May.
Your questions and thoughts on the specialty dining are correct. Personally, I think you should go for the balcony and try the specialty restaurants to go with your adult beverage package. If you are going to try a new cruise line, sample a little of all that it offers, right? As for entertainment, Rock of Ages and Burn the Floor are the Breakaway's signature shows. They are popular, decide when you want to see them, and make reservations early (on line).

I am generally pessimistic about such projects in Bermuda but it could be done by May 1. They are pushing upgrades due to the America's Cup races expected to bring additional visitors to Bermuda starting at the end of May. These plans were made a while ago. Most of the facilities for the bar and restaurant were well under way last year so probably not much construction is needed to finish the facilities. It is mainly roadwork that is left to be done.
No way I would plan a beach day in Bermuda the first week of May though. Not beach season that early in May.
Although a plus, I don't have to get wet or wear a swimsuit to enjoy a beach day! A little sand, view of the ocean and a drink are an almost perfect beach day to me!
-
So I'm really happy to see improvements being made. I know everyone will appreciate nicer/better facilities. However, there is NO WAY they will have this completed by May 1, and I had planned a day at Horseshoe beach the first week of May. Sigh...

I hate to disappoint, but I'm going to stop here for now. I have a pretty nasty cold. I do not blame the cruise like a lot of people do. I blame the fact that it's January and viruses are going around. If I feel up to it in a little while, I'll post more.
I waited up for the last installment, lol! Think I'll head off to bed and check back in the morning, as I am enjoying your review. Hope you feel better soon.

After reading hundreds of posts and reviews, I can pretty much tell you what is wrong with the Breakaway before ever stepping on her. Atrium is too small, pool area is too small, casino and surrounding 3 decks too smoky, seats in the main theater are too uncomfortable, balconies too, small, embarking and disembarking horror stories...
But what is RIGHT with her? If you could only choose one thing, what would you tell me you love most about the Breakaway?
Bermuda bus attire?

Thank you, NJHorseman. While we do plan on taking a minibus back to the ship, we are going to take the bus to WarwicK, and walk from there to Horseshoe. Will make us appreciate an adult beverage all that much more, lol.
