  1. Always have gotten a bill day of disembarkation,

And like the prior post we too check our bill day prior to disembarkation for errors, but do not cash out, we leave all legitimate charges to our credit card and successfully dispute all errors prior to disembarkation. HOWEVER, we have gotten errors on our bill the morning of disembarkation, and off I go annoyed that I am spending the last day of a glorious vacation disputing an erroneous charge. Once for room service, that was not ours, once for water we did not order and once for service  service charges that I pre- paid.

We had also received a bill to our Credit card, for something we did not charge, after we were home. This I disputed with my Credit Card company and they resolved it quickly.

Keep all receipts and check your on board account mid cruise and at the end of your cruise.

It is easier to dispute a charge when it is newly posted.

I just got off the Escape. In 14 days, there were THREE movies shown repeatedly. Usually one during the day while in port, one at 7:30 outside at Spice (except during parties) and one at 11:00pm in the Atrium. They showed Rampage, Book Club, and one more that I would need to look at my daily for. Honestly, I was really disappointed that the same movies were shown for 2 weeks straight. I don't cruise to watch TV, but it would have been nice to have some variety. With the holiday season, classic Christmas movies would have been great too.

Thank you AKR2011, one of my very favorite things to do is to watch a movie fresco under the stars! I hope they have a holiday themes movie.

  3. In the UK, $US are not really acceptable. I am always amazed by the number of Americans who think they can pay with $ . Unless you are travelling to the states soon they are not very convenient, as the exchange costs are astronomical for$20 / $30. Tour guides are well paid, don't hanker for tips and outside London if you decide to tip ( a most un-British custom now ) to give $US is almost an insult as it's not really much good.

I had no idea that it was that difficult for tour guides to exchange US $'s and that tipping was considered insulting for some. Traveling to the UK in the recent past, our tips were graciously and often enthusiastically accepted.

We will be traveling to the UK, as part of our upcoming cruise and am concerned about making others uncomfortable while I show my appreciating for their services. However, I do not want to deprive hard working people of income based on one opinion.

I am interested in the opinions from other Britons?

  4. Hi-We will be traveling on the Explorer this July and two questions:

What restaurants are open for lunch embarkation day?

I understand that we will have complimentary Wi-Fi and that one tablet/computer can log on per suite based on the category we booked. My question is, can my DH log on, on his IPAD and I log on, on the ships computer in the business center (ships guest computer) at the same time?

  5. I find all reviews helpful; they help me manage my expectations prior to cruising to avoid disappointment. This review however was too vague and I found it unhelpful.

Cruise Critic members are usually informative with corrective feedback but not this time. Feedback is encouraged and I am glad to see that we see through the not so sincere comments.

  6. Now some housekeeping: On the way to dinner a few people were in shorts at the pool bar after six. For us not a problem, but some of you it is. At dinner in Sette Mari two people had blue jeans and one person had white jeans (not dressy type) that we saw. Didn’t ruin our dinner, but if you’re going to have a policy you need to enforce it or drop it. That’s it for this post, hope you enjoyed it. If you have any questions that need an honest answer please ask.

    Rick & Ron

Thank you Rick and Ron for sharing your experience with the Cruise Critic Folks. I like the dress code policy and do not want to violate it. Question: Were the pool and hot tubs open after 6PM? If so we may swim and sit at the pool but should not go to the pool bar rather order drinks pool side?

One of my favorite things to do when sailing is to sit in the hot tub during sailaway-llam

  7. Hi JP and Chris-I read your posts and checked out your pictures. Thank you so much for sharing your adventures and helping the CC family.

I read the prior posts and I guess I just need to read your reply and those of others again.

I am struggling with packing and keeping under the one checked bag no greater than 50lbs requirement for the charter flight to Longyearbyen for the Artic Expedition.

Can you further describe the boots available on Ship.

Were they strict about the luggage on the SS charter flight Longyearbyen ?

Sorry for the redundant questions. Any information will help

"3. Not sure how effective insect repellent is, but the StingEze as recommended on Silveursea’s website is effective after the bites, we bought it from our local drugstore. We got lots of bites on two islands, especially the one that has the flamingos."

Like you we experienced biting flies. I was the only person not to be bitten. I used Avon Skin- So Soft Bug Guard Plus- Very Water resistant Insect repellent with SPF 30 Contains Vitamin E.

I plan on bringing it on our next adventure to the Artic. I have heard that the bugs in Greenland can be aggressive.

  9. We have booked guarantee cabins many times and have been assigned the category we booked or better but always within the same category. For example it we booked a balcony guarantee we got the lowest level balcony or the highest level balcony, but never to another category. never upgraded to a suite, from a balcony guarantee.

I always book the category that I want because I do not want to be disappointed.

    Good Luck
