Thanks for the advice. I think on future cruises I'll end up going with more local tours. As far as Rome, we mostly plan to use the HOHO bus because none of the other tours offered what we wanted. We have no interest in the Vatican and want to spend most of our time around the Colosseum, Roman Forum, etc. We plan to mostly just use the HOHO as a means to get from the port to Rome and occasionally place to place without walking between the sites that are far apart.

Last time we went, my daughter and I grabbed a train to Rome central and then the tube to coliseum and walked all around the sites there ending up at the Trevi fountains and then got the nearest tube back to central and train back to the boat. Super easy and super cheap!

I have only ever cruised from Southampton - never fly cruise - the last day is a bit of a mystery to me. Our flight back to the UK is not until the evening and we thought we could visit Rome during the day but what do with our luggage etc and should we take it and then go from Rome to the airport or should we come back to get a shuttle bus to the airport? Anyone with experience offering their ideas would be great.

Is this for definite?

The ship does not go into its next major dry dock until April 2018 before it heads to Europe. In that dry dock, it gets all the new enhancements that the Caribbean Princess received earlier this year (buffet change, addition of the BBQ joint, upgraded mattresses, etc).
