  1. Kevloe, you can stop by the MDR in the afternoon and view the evening menu, or you can ask your room steward for one. You order by calling on the phone, not at the dining room. Having dinner on ones own balcony can be a real treat

Thank you very much! We've been on a few cruises, mostly Princess, but this is our first time with Celebrity. It's wonderful that we can get dinner via room service - we won't miss out or necessarily have go to the buffet on formal nights. I like the buffet - just not all the time. :)

  2. Sometimes men who arrive without a jacket are given one. So to avoid the possible embarrassment you can book a specialty restaurant, eat at the buffet, order room service (room service is free, and even the MDR menu is available at no extra charge)

We are not participating in the formal nights for our upcoming cruise because we are keeping luggage to a minimum, so this interests me. So how does this work? Are there menus in our cabin or do we order at the dining room and request room service?

Also, although I've understand that we can dine at the specialty restaurants on formal nights without dressing up, I've read that many people in those venues still dress formally. Will we feel out of place?

  3. "I consider myself a low maintenance cruiser with low expectations, etc. I'm there to have fun regardless, good times with friends, etc."

I've cruised just a few times, on Carnival, NCL, and mostly Princess (and way back when on Premier). I've always enjoyed cruising; it's such an easy, relaxing vacation because you get to do as much or as little as you like. AND you're not cooking and cleaning up, even if some of the meals aren't perfect (most of them are good or better, I think, on a cruise ship) My first Celebrity cruise is coming up in three weeks. I will have a good time because, like you, I tend to have low expectations, which may be the key, as bad as that sounds. I read a lot of bad things on this board, for example, about NCL. We had a wonderful cruise (and it was at an awesome price) in spite of what I read.

Forget all the baloney you went through to book. You'll be on a beautiful ship cruising the ocean. You'll be able to get a drink and have a nice meal, maybe take a swim, soak in a hot tub, have a spa treatment, gamble, or take a fun excursion. It's all good!

I always sleep well on a cruise ship. Enough said.

  4. thanks to you all-- I am a banker by day and wear a suit with heels Monday to Friday. I'd prefer to be casual or smart casual when I'm on vacation, much more relaxing---I am going to leave the dress up clothes at home!!

You're on the Silhouette leaving Venice on August 31, right? Us too! We were gonna do the formal nights but just recently decided to skip them for this cruise. Less stuff to take. Hubby was going to rent formal clothes, but we figured that, for the cost, we could just have dinner at a specialty restaurant on the formal nights. I don't think we'll miss it, but I do appreciate that many cruisers really enjoy the formal experience. :)

  5. Does anyone know how early you can check luggage in with the porters at the Venice cruise terminal? We are embarking from Venice at the end of August 2014. We were hoping we could drop our luggage off in the morning and go explore for a few hours before getting on the ship (Celebrity Silhouette). Thanks! :)
