  1. All their "parties" are pretty much similar....they play music people dress up, dance and they sell drinks.

Yeah, I'm not quite sure why everyone is all so excited about the White Hot Party (admittedly, I've never been to that one, but I've been to parties on NCL ships). Best I can tell, it's just a dance party and they sell drinks.

  2. And OMG, what do you mean "Alibi" was the last book with Maddie? But me and Maddie are tight. I just love her! LOL

Oh well, I'm glad to hear that Felix will carry on in Gemma Halliday's new series. He's a colorful character and I look forward to his adventures.

I'm pretty much on Team Felix. ;)

I know...it's pretty sad to learn that Maddie's story is ending, but Gemma has assured me that she will make cameo appearances. Gemma's actually a fairly good friend of mine from several online writer's groups and conferences. She's pretty much Maddie...only much less ditzy. ;)

And I TOTALLY misspoke when I said Alibi. I meant Mayhem in High Heels. I'm an idiot. *mental forehead smack*

  3. I just bought all 5 of her books this week. Unfortunately, they are so good and so funny that I'm already on the last one. I couldn't put them down. Gemma Halliday is definitely one to read.

How lucky to have discovered them all at once. It was excruciating to have to wait 6 months between books (and a year this last time).

I'm sad that ALIBI IN HIGH HEELS is that last one featuring Maddie as a heroine, but her new series starts in November, and it's sort of a spinoff. Felix is the main character in this one. :D

  4. Do people actually read on a cruise? when

When laying out by the pool, when laying out at the beach, etc. I love reading on a cruise. Then again, I just love reading.

As for book suggestions...what types of books do you like? Without knowing your tastes, I seriously doubt anyone here will be of much use.

If you haven't read any of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books, give them a try. They are hilarious.

If you like Janet Evanovitch, might I recommend Gemma Halliday? She writes the "High Heels Mysteries" for Dorchester Publishing, and they are absolutely hilarious. And I'm not just saying that because she's a good friend of mine. :D USA Network has recently optioned "Spying in High Heels" to be developed into a sitcom, actually.

  5. This is, single-handedly, the best review of a cruise (albiet one marred with misfortune that you seemed to take with grace and humor) I have -ever- read in my years of cruising.

I would cruise with you any day of the week. If you are not writing for publication, you should be.

Seriously. Hi-lar-ious!!!!!! The OP really needs to submit to one of the travel magazines, if he hasn't done so already. Freelance, baby!

  6. Thanks for the answers! If the captain makes the decision to divert to a different port, are there shore excursions (from the cruise line) available in that new port?

(Obviously I know you can book shore excursions from private vendors and have done so in the past, but I would imagine that if the captain diverts the ship you might end up with less time in port than usual and would worry about making the departure if on a private tour in this instance.)

When does the captain usually make the decision? The night before? That morning? Upon a failed attempt to moor?
