  1. Extended family cruise on Symphony in March. Because of minor children the parents are booked in two different staterooms each with children. Will they be able to bring 2 bottles of wine per stateroom onboard? Or only one due to only one adult in the stateroom? How would the RCI staff know at check-in who else is in the room? (Yes, Grandma here, would be willing to drink the 2 extra bottles during the cruise!)

Along those same lines, what about an adult drink package? Would both parents be required to purchase if they have separate rooms?

  2. Things are looking better in Virginia for the weekend. Yes, we have homeowners insurance, but also a boat in the water (insured) and that's my husband's worry. We've had really high tides all week already. But with the better forecast for us, we were able to cancel Friday's flights w/o penalty and we rebooked early Saturday morning flights. Those flights were pricey and disappearing fast. A lot of tension in the house this morning but things are falling into place. Hope everyone else's plans work out well and all stay safe.

  3. It's a large family group (16)--part of us is flying, part is driving.n the drivers are headed to a condo in Sarasota. We flyers are scheduled to fly into Ft Lauderdale around 1 on Friday. We figured that flight will be cancelled. Don't know when to ull the trigger on trying to get Saturday flights into Miami. Complicating things is that the hurricane may come up to the Virginia coast where we live. My husband doesn't want to leave home in that case. With Isabelle in 2003 we didn't have power for over 2 weeks and flooding.

Having fun these next few days is not going to be easy.

  4. We're being somewhat frugal this cruise and have selected the Bella experience. Saw on another thread a listing of menus for the Divina and noticed that there were prices by the pizza selections. Is there complimentary pizza onboard? I believe the pizza listing I saw was for Eataley. Having never cruised on this line before I'm wondering where the "Bella" people can get a snack outside of the MDR or buffet. Pizza in buffet area? Busiest times for buffet area? Thanks so much for any information.

  5. We are traveling with a family group in October on Divina. One member has been told by her doctor to not eat at the buffets because of immunity issues. Will she be able to find meals served by staff for breakfast and lunch while aboard? The evening meal will not be a problem because it's in the dining room. What options will she have? What costs might she have? We have mainly traveled on Royal Caribbean where other than a tip room service would be an option. I believe I've read that on MSC room service is not free at any time. Is that correct? Are there any dining venues during the day that are staff served? Do you think contacting MSC about this problem would help? Thanks so much for any information.

  6. We are flying in and out of San Juan, PR next week to sail on the Adventure. Not too worried about getting there b/c we're flying in 2 days early. It's the return trip on Saturday, March 5th that I have questions about. Did a search here but what showed up was years old.

Flying JetBlue, flight leaving 11:35 am. We plan to walk off with luggage as soon as we can and get taxi. Essentially, what do I need to know?

Is it imperative to print out boarding passes on the ship?

Is it hard to get a taxi once disembarked? Cost? (Saw on a recent thread that a taxi driver argued about fare upon arrival. When passenger started arguing back in Spanish it was quickly resolved.). We don't speak Spanish. Will that create problems for us?

Understand that there is an Agricultural inspection line. Do you go through that initially before checking in/checking bags?

Are there any outside (or inside) kiosks that help expedite services (checking in with already printed boarding pass, checking luggage, etc.)?

  7. I'm thinking of booking on the Divina and traveling with elderly parents. My mother sometimes has mobility problems when faced with walking long distances. Does anyone know if there are wheelchairs available onboard (for rent or for temporary use if needed)?

  8. We're cruising out of San Juan on a port intensive trip (only 1 sea day). Was wondering if it would be more economical to not purchase the ship's drink package and take advantage of all the ports and drink on land. Guess I'm asking if beer, cocktails, wine are very expensive in St Croix, St Kitts, St Maarten, Dominica, & Barbados.

We'd be willing to spread out our drinking throughout the day and enjoy only moderate drinking at night including the wine we bring onboard.

Also, which liquor is best for the islands I'm visiting? Learned the hard way years ago that some kinds of liquor are very expensive in ports compared to others. Thanks for any info you can supply!

  9. Does anyone have information on the entertainment (schedule, time, type, etc.) onboard FOS for the Western Caribbean cruise? My last 2 cruises were on the Allure and Oasis where I could book. Would like to have which shows are offered on which days and times so I can plan dining options, excursions, etc. I called RCI and they would give me no info except for the ice skating times (which I booked).

    Thanks

  10. I fell in love with the Oasis Frozen Lemonade offered at the bars onboard. Six quarts of the Island Oasis lemonade is being delivered to my house tomorrow.😃 Does anyone know the recipe for this drink? I believe Ketel vodka was used, but not sure of proportions. Plan on using my Ninja for the shaved ice. Any help?

  11. We were a group of four couples and the ladies surprised our husbands by booking this tour for them. They thoroughly enjoyed the three hour tour. The only thing that somewhat marred the tour was a lady who obviously did not pay attention to the caution that one must be fit enough to do a lot of walking and climbing stairs, etc. She complained quite a lot and finally disappeared from the tour before it ended.

  12. Thank you, Chris, for posting such a comprehensive and entertaining review. I have taken part of my afternoon to read the postings and "re-experience" my cruise. My husband and I and some friends were on the same sailing. Don't think our paths ever crossed though.

It's interesting to note how different perspectives can be. I felt that there were very few children onboard. We had carefully selected this week after Easter week and most spring breaks to avoid lots of children. I never heard if the ship was full. Looking up at the balconies that overlook Boardwalk and especially Central Park, it seemed that many were not occupied. Was there ever an announcement of our capacity?

Glad to hear that your service was so good. Unfortunately, we differ here as well. Examples--our friends in the next stateroom did not have towels when we boarded. We shared one set of ours so we could get to our 6 pm dining time. I called and they were replenished when we got back from dinner and show. I never met our stateroom attendant until late Tuesday (Day 3). On previous cruises it seemed the attendant always sought us out to introduce themselves and always on Day 1. Am happy to hear your experience was different and our situation was probably a fluke.

We also used Bernard's Tours. I learned of them and their great reputation here on CC. Our group took Tour 2 which took us all over the island--both Dutch and French side and to both Orient Beach and Maho Beach. Definitely worth the $45 pp for the several hour tour. Also we were provided with rum punch, beer, sodas, and water while on the bus. None of our other excursions (RC tour in Nassau or the self-booked tour on St. Thomas) provided any refreshment at no cost.

Thanks again for letting me enjoy my trip a second time and providing pictures I meant to take.
