  1. Hello everyone,

Hope your respective Februarys is each off to a good start.

While I've been to Barbados as port of call several times, I've never flown in and transferred to the cruise terminal from the airport. What do you recommend as the best way to get there? It seems that there are three options (pretty much the same as most other ports): book a transfer through Seabourn, book a transfer through some local company, or grab a cab at the airport.

Would appreciate your guidance and recommendations. Many thanks!

  2. Good afternoon all and Happy New Year! I'll be on one the Yacht Harbors sailings of the Odyssey in March, and I was wondering if anyone might know at which port we'll likely have caviar in the Surf/beach BBQ. Yacht Harbors calls at Mayreau, Martinique, Guadalupe, Nevis, Granada, and Tobago.

    Thanks!!!

  3. My husband and I are pretty terrible when it comes to over-packing. But we love dressing for dinner and having lots of options. There's usually enough space the room, we've found, to put everything away. We MIGHT try to pack lightly on our upcoming cruise in March...but in the end we'll probably bring lots again. Of course, we also bring all of our own SCUBA gear (not tanks) so limiting it all down to two carry-ons and a gear bag would be a huge challenge.

  4. You can - the evening before you want your special dish, speak to the restaurant manager. If they have the ingredients on board, they will try to oblige.

Sometimes I rush back to the suite after dinner to look at the next evening's menus left in the suite by the stewardess, and then go back to ask for, say, escargots, as a starter, or a tempura dish - my particular favourites. Or it could be something you have already had and want to repeat, or maybe a special Indian or other Asian dish you like.

That's fantastic, thanks for the information!

  5. Hello everyone,

I have seen mentioned on several posts that one can make special requests in The Restaurant for items that are not at all part of the menu. Is this correct? If so, I'm really quite curious about it and would love to learn more from you all. My husband and I are taking our first Seabourn cruise in March next year and I must admit that I do like knowing as many ins and outs as possible before trying something new (for me, it builds on the enjoyment).

    Many thanks!

  6. No one "ran us out", to be clear. The entry time is indeed fixed, but once you get your toe in, the staff will not actually run you out. It was our own choice to go with the cheese plates in our suites as staff looked tired and it was not critical to us to eat the cheese in the MDR, it was our choice. There would often be small groups of talkers and lingerers when we left, sitting as long as they wanted, as they were entitled.
Oh fantastic! You had me worried :) thanks very much for the clarification. DH will be much more relaxed now haha

  7. CBoy04:

I have only done four SB cruises, two Odyssey and two Quest, and it was typical that after the show, most pax disappeared into their suites. Pax are older, and need their rest before getting up early for morning excursions ( I certainly do).

However, there would always be a few lively groups who would hang out drinking and chatting in the lounge and appreciating the band which will keep playing if anyone is there, some pax even danced.

You can make your own party time.

I agree that closing for dinner at 9 is earlier than ideal. DH and I like later dinners so we have time to relax, soak, have a cocktail after the day's excursions, so we would appear between 8:30 and 8:45 to start dinner, and by then the courses moved along quickly in the MDR so we could still catch the show. There is a risk they will be out of a special if you come late.

A couple times when we were not going to a show we ordered a cheese plate sent to our suite, for dessert, after things were closing up. Staff are keen to clear people out later so they will not let you in even two minutes after nine to start dinner.

That seems rather unfortunate and not what I would have expected. I would hope that a couple who arrived at 8:45pm and wanted a relaxing 2 hour dinner would have no different an experience than those who arrived at 7pm. Otherwise, it's not "open seating" but "run as fast as you can to get there at 7pm so you don't have food slung at you as quickly as possible."

While I can understand, perhaps, running out of a special, I cannot understand running later diners out of the restaurant regardless of whether they wanted to catch the show (which we usually do not).

  8. My husband and I will take our first Seabourn cruise in March next year on Odyssey. We were actually surprised that the dining rooms close at 9. We usually sail in the Suites on Celebrity and would usually have dinner in Luminae at around 9:30. Not a huge timing change really, but I guess I expected longer dining hours on Seabourn. We're usually up fairly early, but love staying up late after a long, relaxing dinner.

For those who have sailed Seabourn before: does the ship quiet down significantly after 9 or does the activity just re-center in one of the lounges?

  9. I have a scanned copy from our April/May Sojourn cruise to Japan/Korea/China/Alaska. However, the file exceeds the CC limit for a PDF. I'm willing to e-mail if you would like.
Hi DCCruiser57, would you be willing to email the lists to me as well? Sean41682 at Gmail dot com. Many thanks!

  10. Hi everyone :)

I hope you're all well. Has anyone come across a floor plan/layout of the Royal Suite? I'm glad they've kept the whirlpool on the balcony, but I'm surprised there are only four RSs on the Edge (compared to 8 on the Solstice Class).

  11. It only seems to be the Reflection that this happens with. I suggest that it is just another quirk of the web site.

I'm sure it is. Celebrity is certainly not known for consistency across its website. I doubt they will open MC to Sky Suite guests, especially on the Reflection, which has more Sky Suites than the other S-Class ships. I only brought it up because, based on the website, I thought Celebrity might be trying something out on the Reflection.

Based on various people's experiences posted to CC, it seems that Michael's has varying utilization rates from cruise to cruise - as most venues do, in my experience. We're on the Reflection in January - so I'll just have to see if the website is wrong (which I'm sure it is).

  12. It still is not open to Sky suites

Interestingly, if one goes to book a Sky Suite on the Reflection on the website right now, when you get to the booking page, select Suite, and then expand the Sky Suite description, it does list MC as a benefit. I just got off the Silhouette and found that MC was almost always empty. There was one night when we saw a large family in there pre-dinner (about 7 people), but other than that it was a ghost town. Perhaps it might not be a bad idea to test out what happens to the use of MC if Sky Suites were allowed to partake.

I'll be posting a Trip Report soon. Got some great pictures of Luminae, it's lovely.

  13. Hello everyone, hope you all are looking forward to the March 22, 2015 sailing on the Silhouette. There is quite an extensive roll call conversation happening on CC hosted by MajorDeegan, but I thought it might be nice to have a dedicated G&L forum as well. I know we're getting quite close to sailing but better late than never.

My husband and I are 32, and this will be our 4th cruise together on Celebrity, first on the Silhouette. Hopefully there are some other G&L people on this cruise; it would be great to meet up.

Cheers, and see you on board.
