Rent a car and do the South Highway Klondike drive up to Carcross. Beautiful drive with nice stops along the way.

Just got a credit for the hotel we booked.......no cancellation notice. When I called they said they were running on a generator and housing Fema and not taking reservations until May 31st.

There are hotels rooms available but at an unbelievable rate, so went online and booked airbnb.

I found out the hard way that Tracfone does not work in Juneau, Skagway, or Ketchikan. That was with a tracfone smart phone (uses Verizon cell network) or a tracfone flip-phone (uses AT&T network).

Was able to use our tracfone flip in Skagway last August. Did a land tour the rest of the trip so could not tell you about Juneau or Ketchikan.

While you do not go to the base of Mendenhall' date=' you do get a good look at it in the beginning of the trip. Partybarbie's is right about what they have you wear. They do have large locked boxes to put your shoes and jackets in to if you want. It was a nice warm day when we went and I left my coat behind and wore a sweatshirt and turtleneck. The choice to paddle or not is up to you. I was in a raft where our guide did all the navigation. I really enjoyed the trip and the "rapids". Our guide was informative and quite funny.

Did you have any chance to take some pictures? If so, what did you do with your camera?

I am going on a 13 night cruisetour with a debarkation of Vancouver. Our flight does not leave till 10:30 p.m. Is there a place to store my luggage? How do I store my luggage so that I can enjoy Vancouver without hauling my luggage around? Any ideas?

Are you booked with Princess? We are also doing a 13 night cruisetour with debarkation in Vancouver and found they have an excusion with the HOHO bus where you can drop off your luggage and they will forward it to the airport. Along with that is a transfer on the train to the airport.

On other ships we had to show our sea pass card to board. If we don't have a sea pass card how do they check that we have been signed in when we board the ship?

Sail tomorrow and finally got our stateroom assignment last night. Booked an MM (i know the worst, but got a good rate) and was assigned an E. Not bad....inside to oceanview.

travugurl.........how did you handle tipping on the land portion of your tour for the driver and guide? Were you given envelopes to hand them or did you just hand them cash at the end of the tour?

Still waiting for an assignment......our ship sails on the 19th. This is our first cruise on HAL........could that be the reason we aren't assigned yet?

We just did this tour 2 weeks ago and absolutely loved it! We had a party of 10 and one of the couples in our group were in their mid 70's. One also had an ankle problem and moved a little slower than the rest of us. They got on the boat, took their time coming down to it and coming back up. Our crew was very helpful and accommodating for all of us. You will so happy you booked with them. Everyone was certainly were thrilled with our excursion. Enjoy yourselves, it is one of the highlights of our trip!

Never sailed on HAL until next week..........are you all saying that there is no refrigerator in the cabins except those with a balcony or higher?

We are a couple in our 70's and can walk but not fast. Can someone give me an idea of what the walk is like from their parking area to the dock?

What a great review.....we are doing this same sea/land tour in 2 weeks only opposite of what you did. Yours is the first review that I could find that was exactly like the one we are doing. You gave me a lot of good tips on what to see and do. Also, enjoyed looking at your pictures that gave me a good idea of what we can expect to see.

How did you manage with only 2 carryon's? Did you not have any luggage that Holland America picked up and delivered to your room?

We pre purchased (5) 24 hour Vaporetto (ACTV) passes (20 euro ea.) online thru Veniceconnected.com last October (2012). You get a voucher with a PNR number/ bar scan design to activate at the ticket machines. Each voucher also had a bonus for Venice casino. Well, our ship never made it into port due to serve storms and record flooding (just an unlucky cruise). Asked ACTV for a refund due to flooding? but no luck. ACTV customer service person said the voucher is good for up to 1 year from date it was purchased for- Nov 1, 2012 (good till Nov 1, 2013). I know we can’t predict some things, but I am pretty sure I’m not going to be visiting Venice prior to Nov 1 2013, and would hate to see them wasted, so if someone could use them, provide an e-mail and I’ll be in contact.

Anyone ever do a tour of the Blue Grotto? How is it?

Are you talking about the boat tour at the Blue Grotto? If so, if the weather is good it is a boat tour not to be missed.

Yes, for European cruises you can choose 2 out of 3 amenities.

Celebrity must have been giving out the package before tomorrow because we booked on New Year's Eve and got two of the three and a great discount on a balcony stateroom through our TA.

Lars........were you able to get both the drink package and the OBC through the cruiseline? I thought you would only get one of the three.

Remember us? We were on the October 11, 2012 sailing with you. We booked the October 31 sailing with daughter and sil. It was such a good itinerary that we decided to do it again.
