  1. We've just returned from the Liberty. While we drove from San Antonio, other family members flew into Hobby and also IAH. We stayed in Galveston at Westin Four Points, ate at the Original, made last minute wine purchases at WalMart. All routine. And then. Upon debarkation, it poured! Everything jammed. Huge potholes from parking lot to terminal filled with water. We finally headed out well after 10 am getting into San Antonio around 5. (We stopped for a quick Whataburger at some point.). Everyone made their flights as they all booked afternoon departures. Galveston needs to update in the worst way as departures and arrivals are all from one terminal.

  2. Go between Coups if you can.

No, seriously, Turkey is great, if things have settled down politically. However, Turkey will still be a possible target for ISIS. Still, if I wanted to go to Turkey (I have been there twice), I would go.

    That's a good one!
  3. agree with Bob so take the following info with that in mind. May 13, 2016 in Cozumel, Liberty backed in and thus alongside her port side.

We were actually booked on the May 13th date and had to cancel. We'll stick to port and cross our fingers. If all else fails, we'll simply go to an upper deck and watch the stragglers as it's always a show in itself.

  4. I know docking is based on available berth. However, that doesn't stop me from asking this question anyway. We're booking two family cruises on the Liberty and would like to hear from recent cruisers. In Cozumel, did you dock port or starboard? What about Costa Maya? The most fun of Cozumel is sitting on the balcony and watching all of the last-minute folks getting back to the ship. Some run and some just stroll along without a worry in the world. I'd like to book the best odds if that makes sense. We're port at a the moment. Thanks!

  5. Just keep asking questions. We're all happy to help! Here's a tip on cabin selection. Pull the deck plan for Deck 9 on the Independence. You'll see balcony #9696 that connects with interior #9701. Also on the starboard side of the ship, #9396 connects with interior #9401. We booked this configuration for our children and grandchildren. These two staterooms turned out to be cheaper than 4 people in a D1 midship. I'd suggest calling Royal Caribbean and ask if they can find a date for you when these are open. (They go fast.) Two bathrooms, two TV's, etc.

  6. Well, one hand feeds the other. I was getting really frustrated at not being able to pull up the tried and true website. A few minutes ago, I switched browsers to Foxfire and, bam, there it was! Switching browsers wouldn't have occurred to me as I've never had trouble before. Anyway, thanks to all who posted such helpful info!

  7. What is the site? Newer to cruising and already looking at another for next year. Would love to monitor.
Google cruise ship price monitoring and you'll find the site. It's against the rules of cruise critic to mention websites. I hope you find it! (I'm still having trouble connecting ... )
  8. We're Texans and have noticed that hotel prices in Galveston have more than doubled. Be sure to check tripadvisor.com for ratings as some areas are dicey.

The solution for us is to use SPG (Starwood) credit card points. The rate for our pre-cruise stay at Four Points is priced at $400. Ouch. We booked a double for 7,000 points. This card is rated as one of the top 5 cards as far as value goes.

  9. Noro Virus is more of a problem in winter months. We've cruised a number of times in December, January and February. Weather is warm enough for beach days although water might be choppy. Just take sanitizer and wash your hands thoroughly. Our family has never had a problem. I also avoid green salads while cruising as an outbreak of illness on one of the Princess ships was linked to the lettuces. (This was a number of years ago.)

  10. Costa Maya is our favorite port! Hop on a golf cart at the cruise port and motor a few miles along the coast line to Mahahual. I'd suggest booking your day at Tropicante http://www.sandalsandskis.com/ You'll find lots of reviews on this board under the port section and also on Trip Advisor. There are also lots of good suggestions on Trip Advisor under "things to do" for Cozumel. As you say "decisions, decisions ... "
