We've done Alaska on Princess and NCL. The inside viewing areas on NCL are better, they're forward and have a 270 degree view. The Princess ships we've been on don't have an inside forward viewing area, the gym and the sanctuary are forward. That said, Princess is our choice. The forward decks are available for viewing and the promenade deck is great as well. Princess has much better berths in Juneau, and Ketchikan.

I felt there was more to see on the starboard side, especially leaving Panama City and in the lake.

We did a full transit thru the new locks, Pacific to Atlantic, on the Emerald Princess last October, we had a balcony on the port side aft. For the same itinerary I would prefer a starboard forward balcony. I was all over the ship during the transit, but my wife was cabin bound.

We did 19 days on the Emerald Princess in August/September. Enjoyed the ship, my issues are with Princess, the cruise line.

NCL's berths in Alaska required shuttles to get to town. Princess has in town berths.
