  1. Yes this happened on a Carnival ship, can this happen on another cruise line? Yes. One of the problems I have is when I pay for my cruise a part of my payment should include security for my safety. It’s up to whatever cruise line to provide that to me! After 30 cruises I’ve seen a lot of different instances but must admit this is just horrible.

  2. We were returning to the ship in Vancover & I had copies of our passports. Canadian security almost did not let us board because we did not have our passports. After quite a while when I told them to get someone from the ship so they could go to our cabin & into the safe to obtain our passports they finally let us board.

  3. I don't recall the old program language specifying a "nightly" complimentary cocktail hour. I can't imagine they will change it from nightly (except for first night and Captain's Reception Party night) to once per cruise. Why is everybody so pessimistic?

When you were elite on the old program you could go to Michael's Pub every night & have cocktails except embarkation & the Captains night. All I was saying it would be a come down not to have some type of venue that was offered to you like we were offered at Michael's Pub. I guess we all have to wait & see what the official status will be on Monday.

  4. I'am wondering what X means when they say for Elite's, Captain's Complimentary Cocktail Hour. Are we to assume then there is only 1 night for Elite's? If that is the case then that is a big come down from attending Michael's club every night to 1 night of cocktail's. I wonder how busy Michael's club will be now?

Thank you for the amazing review, It's nice to hear good things about NCL. We are cruising the first time with NCL in April for our honeymoon from South Hampton to NYC. I see you are from NYC any suggestions for hotels??

We tend to like Kimpton hotels and see one on Park Ave near Grand Central station is that a good area?

    Any help would be appreciated

Grand Central station is a good area you are in what we call midtown, it is a good location your not far from Times Square, & if you want to go uptown to Central Park your not far either. If you do stay near Grand Central Station make sure you visit the station it sure is worth while. I just suggest you wait until the rush hour is over.

  6. My two nightmare stories was our first trip to Europe it was to Ireland. Plane was loaded sat on the turmac for hours on end only to deplane & spend our first night in a hotel in JFK airport. Aer Lingus picked up the tab worse was the next day trying to get on a flight.

My second worse nightmare was when we booked a day early to stay at the Hilton in San Juan no more flying the same day. About 3 a.m. in the morning the airline calls & says the airline is cancelling due to snow. Of course I am argueing what snow are you people crazy? Sure enoung here came the snow & JFK was shut down. The reservationst gave me an evening flight I was arguing we would be missing the ship. Called back pleaded & got us a late morning flight. Now keep in mind all the flights were all backed up & delayed due to the snow storm. Plane came in 3 hours late but ok because we still had time. Get on the plane & yes you guess it the plane had mechanical trouble, by now my nails were completely chewed down, I also forgot that PR is one hour a head of us. We finally get off the ground when the flight attendents tell us the time when we were landing that is when I realized the difference in time. There was a bunch of us on the flight that was cruising so that worked out to our advantage. When we got off the plane the people from the cruise line was waiting & gave us a choice of going with them & seeing our luggage tomorrow in ST Thomas or get the luggage & miss the book. So all of us just ran they had a bus waiting, all I can tell you the streets & buildings were just wizzing by. We get to the ship they ask DH to step in as they move the gang way he was the last to board the ship. That is when I learned never leave home without a carry on!

  7. If you do a search on the Ports of Call - Canada page you will find many previous reports. Just look to the right of the blue bar at the top of the page.

For Sydney, it depends upon when you are going. The two main things I recommend are Louisbourg and Baddeck.

If you are going before Oct. 15, I suggest going to see Fortress Louisbourg. The quickest, most economical way to get there is to rent a car. There are many posts about this. You can also reserve a taxi or probably pick one up at the dock. The ship's tours from what I have read do not give you enough time. Once you are inside the Fortress you will not need a guide, as people acting the roles of actual people who lived in Louisbourg in 1744 will explain things. If you go there, try to have lunch or at least a drink in the pub.

If it is after Oct. 15 and/or you would like a fairly short scenic drive, then I would rent a car and go to Baddeck and Iona, returning to Sydney another way. This will take you around the scenic Bras D'Or lakes (really an inlet of the sea).

In Baddeck you can see the Alexander Graham Bell Museum and walk around the village. There are shops and restaurants there.

In Iona (which is one of the most beautiful places I have been) you can tour the Highland Village.

For Corner Brook, you could rent a car and drive into Gros Morne National Park. The scenery is beautiful.

I will be in Sydney on Thurs Oct 18 7 A.M.- 3 P.M. would you still recommend going to Fortress Louisbourg? Can we get a taxi or car service to take us there & back to the ship? What would you think the cost might be? If we do not go to the Fortress can we get a cab or car service to take us to Baddeck & Iona? Do you have any recommendations for cab or car service? Thanks
