  1. The US card companies are fighting tooth and nail preventing us from using chip and pin technology.

It is not the credit card companies that are fighting this, but the issuing banks,

the rest of the world has been using chip & pin for a great many years (UK - over twenty) and the amount of credit card fraud has gone down hugely.

Although Canadian I have a US Visa card, issued by the royal bank in Georgia, that has a chip & pin, although when we were in Alaska last year the merchants had no ability for the terminals to use the pin#.

  2. We are trying to choose our excursion on our Alaska cruise in September. One of the things we are looking at doing is the 8hour tour Yukon expedition and white pass scenic railway. We ride the bus up have lunch and shop and then take the train back down. Have you done this? Is it worth the $200? Or should we do the train only white pass scenic railway which is 3.5 hours and we never get off the train. Thanks

We did this last year on the Coral, we booked directly with the White pass railway and it cost us less than the ships tour. Plus we were right at the back of the train, with better views. we fought the morning train up, & then a private mini bus took us into the Yukon for lunch then back down to the port. The guide was fantastic and very accommodating & knowledgeable. I would recommend this tour to anybody.

  3. Perfect description of a the perfect storm. My wife spends a couple of hours getting ready and looks fantastic. I'm so proud to be seen with her. Then we get sat next to a couple that look like they just stepped in for a quick bite after sitting at the pool all day.

My DW has just pointed out that a lot of women have built up a collection of nice jewelry and like the opportunity to take it out for a walk occasionally. If you live on a farm, the animals really do not appreciate it & the locals would think it weird to wear it when curling, (throwing rocks down the ice, to the uninitiated).

  4. Have just got the Sip & Sail Promotion for the 78 day Emerald. England to Sydney next September. This is going to save us a fortune, what with Coffee's, Water and occasional Alcohol,( for medicinal nightcap!!!!.) Not forgetting Wine with dinner each night.

Certainly could not afford this, for that length of cruise otherwise.

  5. i booked about a month ago for a aslaka land and cruise tour. leaving next week. I was able to order OBC at 10%. Also i booked a couple excursion with princess and because its 21 days before departure i was billed right away. On the website the price is in USD but on my cc iwas charged at par. No idea why but i'm pretty happy about it :)

Just a quick note about Princess gift cards. I called Princess and asked about the exchange rate and was told it would be at $1.10 for $1.00. As you can get up to $10,000 each I thought that it would help with next years cruise.I ordered a $1000 one to check the system, good job, as when I checked the Visa, it had been debited at $1266. I called Princess and they said that they have no control over the gift cards and that the only way to get the better exchange rate was to put money as OBC. Lesson learned!!!

  6. We did Iguassu Falls before our S. America trip 2 years ago, we flew from Rio, but I would suggest flying from Argentina as there is less hassle crossing the border to get to the park. We stayed at the only hotel in the park, it was expensive but well worth it.It is a very easy trip to arrange yourself.

  7. I had thought it was only US ports?

Does anybody know if this can be done when sailing from Southampton, UK.

We have relations that are taking us to the ship for the London to Australia trip next September.

    Thank Andrew
