  1. I am having same problem in trying to book. When I try to pay after choosing date and time,  these is an error message saying can't retrieve. I called princess and the rep couldn't book for me either. She put in a "ticket" for a work order. She said to check it again in 3-5 days. I sail on Jan 13. I wonder how many people will be lined up day of boarding to book.😳

There is definitely something wrong with room service/ ordering. The orders just sit at preparing for hours

Had that same problem with the app when I tried to order room service. Never got my orders. Only able to get my morning coffee delivered by putting paper room service request on door know, old school. This was on the Thanksgiving Royal Princess 4 night out of SF. We weren't only ones, heard lots of people complain. We chalked it up to ship being at 109% capacity.

  3. I was on the Royal Thanksgiving cruise Nov 23. Pub lunch was served in dining room for, well, lunch. Pretty tasty, I had the pea soup and fish and chips. 😀Much better food than the so-called and much heralded turkey dinner served in the dining room on Thanksgiving.😬

We just got off the Royal Princess today and the internet was unusable. We had pre-paid for it and requested a full refund on day 2. Our request was granted….no questions asked. Ship was at 109% capacity with 800 kids onboard so this may have contributed to the lack of internet. Our next cruise on the Royal is in January and we’ve got the + package so I guess we’ll be stuck with the internet this time. I’m wondering if they do any partial refunds when you’ve purchased a package. Anyone have any experience getting internet refunded as part or Plus or Premier?

I just got off the Royal Thanksgiving cruise yesterday too. Internet was slooooww to non-existent. I had the plus package and complained to guest services. They gave me a refund of $25. Better than a sharp stick in the eye as my Mother used to say whenever an offer, outcome or experience was less than desirable. 😆  Did you notice how IC ran out of food?

  5. I had the same situation when I tried to bid on an upgrade last night. Used correct booking number.

Message said I wasn't eligible to bid for an upgrade and to try again. Cruise is paid in full, sailing Dec. 21, 2022, 7 night. When I called last week to purchase an upgrade, princess rep told me there were lots of cabins. So I got on princess chat and they said because I have already paid in full, not eligible. Doesn't make sense, that is not what is posted by princess on rules to be eligible

May be a glitch in system?

  6. I stepped foot on the Edge for my Jan 13 sailing. Had an infinite veranda and did not like the cabin at all. I travel solo so pay double. Will not sail in Sunset Verandas or Suites on Edge to get a genuine veranda because of cost. Besides which, there were other things I did not care for on Edge which require more of a fix than frosted glass and smaller furniture in cabin. I just came back from a delightful Summit sailing in a bonafide veranda cabin.

  7. I used Celebrity' app that I had downloaded onto my android to do online check in for my summer Summit sailing.

This morning I called Celebrity to purchase obc with my credit cards  and they called me back with corrected information.

The problem is they called and left a voice mail message on my emergency contact's phone number!!!  Instead of calling my landline or cell number.

My emergency person called me and said they got a phone message from Celebrity.

I put a call into Celebrity and it turns out all my phone contact information (even in my Captain Club's account) had been replaced by my emergency contact number.

I have been sailing with Celebrity for many years and have never had this problem before.

The rep corrected all my phone numbers and is notifying IT about a glitch.

I used the app to check in for my Edge January 2019 sailing and again for my summer Summit cruise. So it might have happened between those 2 times, hard to tell.

But for now on, I will purchase anything directly with a rep and will not be using the app.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and answers to my question. We've done a little more research and decided to change our cruise from the Edge to a balcony on the Solstice in June. I do plan to try this ship sometime, but after reading these comments, coupled with others online about the Edge, we're going to do a more traditional ship instead. Perhaps the sentiment by Cruisestitch seems to be rather common (about not sailing on an Edge ship) among seasoned cruisers. Since we've been on twenty+ cruises, I'd rather set us up for success (since this is our first time on Celebrity). So, going with our gut. Thanks again all for the replies.

Good decision on booking the Solstice. I was in an infinite veranda on my Edge Jan sailing. It really cast a pall on my vacation as I prefer a traditional balcony and the IV was more like an ocean view with a window that opens and closes with AC turning off when window is opened. In the past have been on M class and S class Celebrity ships. Will not book Edge again. Am sailing this summer on Summit. Enjoy your cruise.

Sorry about that . As this point we can't ask the neighbors in 5204 if they also had the creaking a few nights like we did . However there was another issue between our common wall which was the sound of dripping and or running water . We didn't hear it until things got quite on the 1st evening . After that it seemed to be more or less continuous .

Perhaps someone who has stayed in 5204 will share their experience.

Thanks scubacruiserx2 for your reply and for the added information about the sound of dripping or running water. I put a call into HAL, since I am not sailing until 2020, it might be a good time for me to change cabins now. I love aft veranda balconies. Actually any bonafide balcony. I was on Celebrity Edge this past January in an infinite veranda and hated the IV (infinite balcony as Cel calls it). It was really more like an enclosed porch and was so tiny that 2 chairs and a little table barely fit on it. So Nieuw Statendam 's aft balcony will feel like a breathe of fresh air to me.

We have had to shim doors before to make them plumb or help secure them , but it's usually covered by a trim board , but not between the trim as this one was .

I was on the Maasdam last summer and my inside cabin had those shims. It didn't help though and the cabin creaked. Was specially annoying at night while I was trying to sleep. I complained ( a lot), they offered me earplugs. I continued to complain, earplugs didnt help, and i finally got moved to another inside cabin on another deck. Problem solved, no more creaking. I have cabin vs5204 on the Nieuw Statendam booked for a next Winter b2b sailing. Is there any way to find out if that cabin (which is next to yours) is having problems with creaking and what HAL is doing to solve creaking problems. Maasdam is an older ship so I would almost expect some noise, creaking issues but not on a brand new ship. I would appreciate anything you can find out. I dont want to spend 2 weeks with issue. Thanks.

It looks like Celebrity will outfit all the ships with the Cashmere Mattress, which sounds like it might be plush and luxurious.  But it was very firm and hard to sleep on your side.   Perhaps for heavier people it might be OK.  If we go on the Millennium, I'm looking into bringing along some sort of egg crate topper.

Thanks for your reply yvrdave. I called Capt Club and got the phone number for Ship Services. Called and told them about the rock hard mattress on the Edge with no solution. They said since all ships will have the new mattresses, they will offer mattress toppers and try to anticipate how many they will need but must have run out on the Edge.  Well, what ever. Anyway I ordered 2 toppers for my Summit cruise. Based on the rock hard slab on Edge, better to be safe than sorry!

....  However we found the bed to be very firm and hard.  An extra duvet was added to help soften the mattress which got us through the 10 days.  And for many other reasons, we have decided that the Edge is not for us.

Interesting that you received an extra duvet when you complained about the hard mattress. I was on the Jan 13 sailing of the Edge in an IV cabin, and when I complained about the rock hard mattress, my cabin steward said nothing could be done, no more egg crates provided, for sanitary reasons. I was able to get hard sleeping pillows swapped out for softer versions. But still had aggravated neck and back pains for duration of cruise. And no resting on sofa, that was as hard as a marble slab. I booked the Summit for this summer and hope Cel doesn't put in those same type of mattresses and sofa. Also booked HAL Nieuw Statendam so know I won't have a problem there, or at least I hope I won't. No more Edge for me. The mattress issue, IV and other issues (see my Cruise Critic review) have put me off on ever booking Edge again.

  13. Was on Jan. 13 Edge sailing. On embark day went to Bistro Cafe for lunch right after boarding and dropping off carryons in cabin. Cost is $20 per person and you can have any and all from the menu. Had the lobster bisque soup, a croissant, short ribs and apple tartine with cappuccino for dessert. Absolutely delicious and worth every penny. Charming atmosphere, French music recordings played in background.

  14. I was on Jan 13 Edge sailing. Stopped at Publix on way to port and picked up 2 cases of plastic bottled spring water, one case was 8 oz size and other 16 oz.size. Gave to porter at terminal after putting luggage tags on them. Tipped porter and cases of water and suitcases arrived safely to cabin in few hours. Had premium non alcoholic drink package so got Pellegrino and Evian water (glass bottles). Didnt try the aluminum bottles, they are purified water which I don't drink. So glad I brought the plastic bottled water on board. Nice to have spring water with me when walking around pool areas and on excursions.

We were on the January 13th Edge cruise I remarked that it was the quietest and smoothest sailing I've ever been on. We were in SS 10205 with the solid wall IV next to us. But from what I'm reading, our week was a bit smoother than yours has been.

We were on Reflection in it's third month and we heard quite a bit of creaking then.

I was also on the Jan 13 Edge sailing. IV cabin 8251. Smoothest sailing ever. No creaks, no groans. Sometimes I forgot I was on a ship when I was out and about on the ship until I passed a window or went outside.

  16. I thought when I got on board that the ship was full, at least that was what front office told the lady who was standing near me at ship services. This was shortly after ship sailed and she was complaining about her cabin, that she was a solo in an inside cabin and it was awful. They told her "sorry" sold out, no cabins available. NO that lady was not me. So seems ship held back some cabins in case of really bad cabins and/or they shuffled people around. Customer service mg told me they were having problems with cabins in that section of ship where 395 is located. When I vacated cabin for new 773, they were two workers (construction, carpenters) waiting to go in, to inspect/repair,?

  17. Just got home from NE Maasdam Boston to Montreal cruise July 28. Only did one way so flew from Montreal to Philly to visit relatives for a week.

Arrived in Boston a few days prior to cruise and took a private tour to York, Ogunquit, and Kennebunkport, Maine. Lovely and scenic areas.

Took Lyft to ship, did customs there in Boston at terminal and walked right on ship. Easiest embarkation I have ever experienced.

Beware of cabin L395. Creaky like an old haunted house. I looked up where creaking was coming from and saw where staff tried to do a temporary fix by jamming two pieces of wood into part where ceiling met wall. Didn't help. Numerous calls to front desk. For that and air conditioner didn't work. Was offered ear plugs. Didn't help. Finally on second night I got to move to another cabin, #773. Wonderful cabin, no noise and air conditioner worked. Safe wouldn't work, needed to be reset. Then when I was coming back from dinner later that night, my key didn't work. Walked back up to front office. They were able to get me back into my cabin but I had to stay there and wait for the locksmith. He arrived half hour later and replaced the battery. Got a new key card and it set off alarm as I tried to get off ship for my excursion next day. Back to front office for a new card. When does my vacation start???

Ok so finally there were no more problems.

I have a food allergy and the chefs did a wonderful job, very few adjustments needed. I brought my own pancake and waffle mix and every morning at the MDR, chef prepared whichever one I ordered. Very accommodating.

Food is subjective but enjoyed the MDR breakfast and dinners and Lido food. Did not like Pinnacle nor Rudy's. Not worth the upcharge. Service however was excellent in the 2 specialty restaurants and uneven in MDR for dinner. Cold coffee in MDR until complaints to maitre d'. Hot coffee after that.

Many families with children, kids were well behaved. There was even one table of only children at dinner in MDR.

I had late seating so went to piano bar right after dinner every night. Thoroughly enjoyed "the piano man". Very talented performer.

Wonderful ports and friendly people in each port.

Peggy's Cove was breathtaking. Not to be missed.

I will be back, so much to see.

  18. Yes be very careful when booking directly with Royal. This past Spring I called RCCL and booked a cabin directly with a rep who assured me the reservation had a refundable deposit. I didnt bother looking closely at the invoice that was emailed to me until a few weeks later when I had to cancel. I called and was told I was losing $100 of the $250 deposit with $150 to be used as credit for future cruises. I said I was assured when I booked that it was a refundable deposit. No way would I ever book a nonrefundable deposit. I sent emails to the executive offices protesting their mistake. I got a call back but executive refused to budge on their mistake. They said it was in the rep's notes that it was nonrefundable and I said it was in my notes that it was refundable. I asked if they pulled the call to hear the conversation and of course they didnt. I had to get my credit card company involved to get a credit put back on my card. So beware.

  19. I will be disembarking in Montreal from HAL Maasdam early August. My flight back to the states is at 2:00 pm. Any reasonable tours that I can book ahead of time that will pick me up at the port, take me on a tour and then drop me off at the airport?

The cruise has an excursion that includes airport drop off but a flight has to leave 2:45 pm or later so I can't book it.

I did see one tour on line but it was $675 (before taxes) for 4 hrs. Ouch!!

Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.
