I got Carlos' name from someone else, so I contacted him.  Of course, he is busy that day.  Wouldn't you know it?

Which TA are you on?  We will be on Norwegian Epic April 27-May 12.

Thanks to all of your suggestions.  I know we don't want to rent a car, but we'll look at other options.

    Hi,

We are taking a transatlantic in April/ May and have 13 hours in Cádiz. We would appreciate some suggestions. Don’t mind DIY and walking but don’t want to rent a car. First time in the area and are not set on anything  particular . TY

  3. My husband and I have been to Seville, so when we dock at Cadiz on a TA next April, we would like to see some of the White Villages near Cadiz.  I am having a difficult time locating a private guide or tour company to work with and who would go to the towns I want to see.  Do you have any suggestions?

  4. When we were in Havana and Cienfuegos this month, we took 2 tours booked with the company called Cuban Trip Compass. There were 8 of us travelling together. Alejandro was our contact person and he was so easy to work with and always prompt with his replies to our many questions. Our tour in Havana was in 2 classic cars and we traveled together and visited the same sites. We started around 9:00 A.M. and had the services of our guides until midnight. The cost was SO much less than tours from the ship, and we got to see so much more. Our 2 guides (1 in each car) were Luvys and Mirlan. They were both teachers and were so knowledgeable about their country. We began our all day tour with a long walking tour of Old Havana. Our day ended with a visit to the Cabaret Parisien, which I recommend, too.

Our 2nd tour was in Cienfuegos and Trinidad. The guide this time was Raul who was as good as the 2 guides we had in Havana. With the ship's tours, you could only visit Cienfuegos or Trinidad, but not both.

I highly recommend this tour company. We have nothing but praises for Alejandro and his guides.

  5. When we were on an Oceania cruise this month in Cuba, I booked a 5-hour tour of Santiago de Cuba with Yuri of cubaguider dot com. I had read many excellent reviews of him on CC and Trip Advisor. I highly recommend him to be your guide in Santiago. It was amazing how many places he took us to in spite of the short time we had with him. He not only knows about all the sites in Santiago, but also he knows all the history of Cuba. You don't need to look any further for a guide in Santiago.

  6. We toured Grenada with Stan Grainger earlier this month. The 8 of us in our group thought he was very professional and did a wonderful job of showing us what we had requested to see on the island. My emails to him were always answered the day I wrote to him. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a tour with lots of history and sightseeing.

  7. Mary Lou (fishcreek),

It looks like my wife and I will be on the same cruise with you? POA...??

Now that the holidays are over we will start looking into excursions.

MaryLou's excursion seems to be highly recommended and is on our short list.

Did she give you a list of possible stops or sites?

I see on their website they are flexible and will tailor their tours as to what people would like to see most.

    Thanks

Yes, she gave me an extensive list of the places we can see. Why don't you contact her, and maybe we'll be on the same tour/tours.

  8. Assuming you are coming ashore at Kahalui, there are several threads here that identify a medium sized lot pretty much right at the pier, and another lot about a block away.

If you are coming at Lahaina, you just need to look in the area of the downtown to find legal overnight parking.

In both locations, the parking is free.

Thanks, Bruce. That's all we needed to know before booking a car.

  9. I just booked us for Mary Lou's tours at Hilo and Kona on May 20-21, 2014. It's nice to use the same tour guide for both days. Maybe some of you would like to join us on her tours one or both of those days.

  10. We are planning to rent a car for the 2 days we will be on Maui. Our question is this: Where do we park the car overnight? How far is it from the ship terminal? Any idea what it costs to park overnight?

  11. We used Barnard's tours as well. Had a nice day. Loved seeing the planes land at Maho!

We have been on Bernard's tour twice in the last 5 years. We are taking a group of people with us in Feb. and we will do Bernard's tour again. It's fabulous!
