Yes if masks are forcibly ripped off in combat down there- that could be a problem.  If you have a "one person inside a laundry room at once" rule- the fighting and scratching moves to the corridors- which are well supplied with air flow.  Maybe a rule that in wrestling over washers and driers aboard, bare knuckles, hair pulling and shin kicking are still permitted-  but removing masks is bad form and will land you in the brig.

    Classic! 😂😂

The launderettes will probably be closed as there is no way more than one person can be in them and maintain social distance.  Imagine how the sparks would fly if one person took their time to meticulously fold their clothing while others were outside waiting.

As for non-compliance with social distancing and other protocols, in an extreme case one could be confined to their cabin.

The "Healthy Gateways" protocols have been discussed here at length.  Some want to be back on board so badly that they will tolerate just about anything to make it happen.  Others don't see any enjoyment in sailing under such restrictions.

    Dear BlueRiband,

I'm inclined to agree with you ...on all the points that you make. (particularly about the "...sparks would fly if one person...meticulously folds their clothes...etc"😆

No doubt the onboard laundry and pressing service will be busier than usual!

  3. Have just seen the latest Cunard announcement at https://www.cunard.com/en-gb/contact-us/travel-health-advisories, and that "Queen Mary 2’s current programme of departures up to and including 12 November 2021 are cancelled."

I'm obviously hoping that things will be OK for the Southampton to New York crossing, departing 15 December.

A general thought has just occurred to me - I’ll be really interested to see how the future social distancing issue is going to be dealt with in relation to the relatively narrow corridors/hallways in the cabin areas.

And another issue that strikes me… is that of the laundry rooms. Always a centre for good chats and ship gossip…occasionally a place for heated arguments over “washing machine emptying etiquette”. I wonder how use of the laundry rooms is going to be managed.

Whatever; I note that Cunard states on it’s website at https://www.cunard.com/en-gb/frequently-asked-questions.sailing-with-confidence.faq624.summary in answer to the question “How will you ensure everyone follows the protocols on board?”, that they state “ Any guest failing to comply with these new procedures will be asked to disembark the ship, with the costs for their journey home at their own expense.”

Does that mean that such guests will be asked to leave the QM2 mid-Atlantic? Maybe to disembark onto a tender that is being towed behind the ship for such eventualities?🤣🤪

  4. Hello everyone;

Can someone settle an argument between my husband and I, please?😄

Is the Britannia restaurant on QM2 open for breakfast on disembarkation day?

I know that the Britannia Club and Grills restaurants and the Kings Court are open for breakfast on disembarkation day.

However, one of us reckon that the main Britannia restautrant will be closed and the other says it will be open. (I'm not saying which of us states open vs closed! 😏🤫😉

    Thanks.

We were just discussing that. We've done back to back crossings, and are cleared by British immigration en route. While we've disembarked to spend the day in Southampton, we have never been instructed that we have to. The Dutch trip obviously involves the EU, and I don't know if immigration will be conducted on board. So it remains to be seen. We have a (QM2 newbie) friend from London joining us at Southampton. I don't know whether we'll want to spend some time ashore doing some shopping/sightseeing or whisking him right aboard so we can start his indoctrination ASAP.

Ah...the unkown factor that comes with Brexit - (I was VERY pro-remain/VERY anti-Brexit)😉

Your comment "whisking him right aboard so we can start his indoctrination ASAP" makes it sound like an induction into a religious order...which I suppose for some QM2 fans, it is 😅. When my hubbie and I took our first QM2 TA...we couldn't wait to get on board and start exploring! Yeah...I'd get him aboard ASAP to begin the indoctrination! 🤣

My partner and I will be on board with you for the 15 December crossing.  We're also on the Dutch Markets trip, immediately preceding it. While we have a balcony for the trans-Atlantic, I've always been intrigued by those atrium-view rooms, and so have Cabin 6147 booked.  It's only 5 days, and I have a pretty high tolerance for noise, so I guess I'll be wearing ear plugs to sleep for that trip!

Will have to chat with you on our 15 December crossing then, to hear what cabin # 6147 was like.

Daft question... will you have to disembark at the end of the Dutch Markets trip on 15 Dec  and then reimbark for your TA to NYC?

    Good evening Chart Room Princess,

Thank you for your response and comment. You've  confirmed what I have heard elsewhere. I'm going to contact Cunard tomorrow, and ask to change my stateroom to an inside cabin on deck 5 midships. (As at the time of writing this at 21:00hrs on 25/03/21 have had a look at the Cunard website for this sailing and  cabin #  5126 is available)

Slightly odd to be asking for a downgrade! 🙂

    Cheers

@Chart Room Princess - I spoke with Cunard this morning...and have "downgraded" to cabin # 5126. (I prefer getting a good night's sleep to having a picture window 😁)

I'm a huge fan of the ferry to/from Red Hook.  The ferries are quite spacious. Not only is it easy to roll everything aboard, there's plenty of free space in the cabin.

On one trip we were heading to Penn Station. We took the ferry to Wall Street and connected to the ferry to 34th St, where we caught a taxi.  It only took a minute to flag one down.  The trip by cab from the East River to Penn Station took longer than the entire ferry ride!

Here's a shot of the luggage for three of us, after a QM2 trip:

    Good afternoon Frankp01,

Thank  you so much for this really helpful comment and advice...particularly the pic  of your luggage on the ferry.

I'm a great fan of river ferries in cities (e.g. the Thames Clipper service in London https://www.thamesclippers.com/... we often use it when we're in London)

Ironically we took the QM2 from Brooklyn Cruise Terminal on May 15 2017 - just a few weeks after the NYC ferry had first started operating...but didn't think to make use of it at the time.

I'd really like to try your suggested NYC ferry solution of Red Hook to Wall St,  then Wall St to East 34th St. and then grab a cab to our hotel (Homewood Suites on W 37th St)

The deciding factor will be the weather, obviously. Not sure if I'd be up to heading for and waiting for a ferry in rain...know what I mean?

    Cheers

It's a walk on ferry with two decks. Many people with luggage use it, so providing you're reasonably comfortable carrying your own, then it would be quite straightforward. The ferry pier is only 100m from the cruise terminal.

There's a taxi rank near the ferry pier at Wall Street, but I can't remember exactly where. Certainly no shortage of yellow cabs as it's a very busy terminal.

If you prefer a car for the whole journey, here's Arecibo's rates: https://arecibocc.com/Rates

Many thanks for your insights. Between yours and Frankp01's comments, you'ver really sold me on the ferry! 🙂(Just have to persuade my husband that it's a good idea too! 😉😁)

Before the ferry was introduced, we always used Arecibo who are the local taxi company. Rates are published and they are very reasonable.

The ferry is now the quickest way and it's less than $3..

    Good afternoon BigMac1953,

Thanks for your response and comments.

I was wondering about the ferry: I have two questions -

    (a) Luggage on the ferry: Each of us will have one large 4-wheeled suitcase with tote bag and one ruck sack each. Will that much luggage be manageable getting to the Red Hook ferry landing?

    (b) Taxi's from Wall Street Pier 11: Do they pick up by Pier 11?

    Cheers

I was upgraded to one of those cabins once. We did hear banging and pounding at all hours of the night. It sounded like we were under a dish washing or food prep area. I would recommend staying elsewhere.  Our deck 5 atrium view was silent.

  13. Good afternoon everyone,

My husband and I are booked to go on the QM2 on the 14 - 22 Dec 2021 TA crossing, Southampton to New York. (fingers crossed that international travel Covid restrictions will have been eased by then, of course)

We've done this crossing on a number of times in an inside cabin on deck 4.

I've gone for an atrium view inside cabin (# 6142) on deck 6 on this occassion.

I would have preferred a similar atrium cabin on deck 5 but none were available.

I note on the QM2 deck plans that the cabin is immediately under the Kings Court.

Does anyone have any experience of these Deck 6 atrium view cabins, in terms of noise from the Kings Court?

    Thanks

  14. As ever, many thanks for the advice. We're travelling in Britannia, so the point about if your travelling in the Grills is well made. We have previously had lunch in Todd English on a previous QM2 TA and weren't that impressed. Hence my interest in what the Verandah might be like.

Pennbank: thank you for signposting me to the appropriate section on the Cunard FAQs which I had overlooked. Cheers

  15. I wanted to book a massage in the QM2 spa , using the online service.

According to Cunard's website ( https://ask.cunard.com/help/cunard/life-on-board/Book_spa_on_CP2 ) I should be able to this.

Have gone in via my Voyage Personaliser. There's no facility for online booking. It merely states "Purchasing Spa Treatments ;To purchase any of the spatreatments listed below please call: US: 866-860-4662 International: 001-520-239-3210"

Is it just me and my pc that are being a numpty? Or can you no longer book spa treatments online?
