  1. We traveled to Italy on a land based vacation this summer to celebrate my 50th birthday. We spent time in Venice, Florence, Rome, Pompeii & Positano, Siena, Pisa and the Cinque Terre. I did it all in a pair of Chaco sandals. In fact, all I brought with me were two pairs of Chacos and a pair of Birkenstocks. Personally, I had no problem walking around Pompeii and hiking through the Cinque Terre in my sandals. They worked great in the big cities too. I think you would be fine in Tevas.

  2. Another high speed train option to consider is Italo. They are a private company that runs high speed trains between many Italian cities. We took them in June from Venice to Rome and from Rome to Florence. We booked in advance so were able to get Premium seats for the cost of day of 2nd class seats. Trains were on time, clean, and very comfortable. There website is fairly easy to navigate too.

  3. We cruised in Alaska last summer with 4 kids (13, 12, and two 10 year olds). In my experience, the MDR was more casual in Alaska than on any other cruise we have taken (mostly the Caribbean, but also Hawaii and the Baltic). The boys usually wore jeans or khakis with collared polo shirts on the casual days. My niece wore capris, leggings or a skirt and a nice top on the casual days. They usually stayed in these clothes for the rest of the evening. Footwear was either sneakers or sandals. Many adults were also wearing jeans and the like to dinner each night. Hope that helps. Enjoy Alaska.

  4. We got off the Crown last week. My husband and I were in Emerald 729 and I had other family members in 723, 725 and 727. There was no problem with noise from Club Fusion in any of these cabins. It is a really quiet part of the ship as there is not a lot of foot traffic either. The only real noise usually involved the thrusters when the ship was docking in port. In addition, there was sometimes a vibration from the engine but certainly nothing that would stop me from booking any of these rooms again. I'm happy to answer any other questions you may have about these rooms.

  5. Helsinki is a very doable port on your own. Rick Steves' Northern European Cruise Ports book provides all the information you will need for Helsinki, Tallinn, etc. There is a bus stop outside of the cruise port that will take you right into the heart of Helsinki. Its a quick walk to the market, City Hall, etc. You can take a tram from there to the Rock Church and other sites. Also, for what its worth, there is a free restroom and free wi fi in City Hall.

  6. I live in Oregon and received the email. My parents, who live in FL, did not. I sent them a link to the promotion, they called Princess and had it apply to their already paid in full cruise in January so it seems that it is open to anyone who knows about it and just asks.

  7. While I have not stayed in the Montego Bay suite, I have stayed in both a vista suite and a penthouse suite on the Ruby on the Caribe deck. Both are great cabins. I liked the interior layout of the Vista suite better than the Penthouse suite but liked the balcony of the Penthouse Suite better. The Vista suite has the beam so it makes the balcony a little tighter than the balcony on the Penthouse suite although both are large balconies. Although some have complained about odors from the vent, we never really experienced it and I would think there would be even less of a chance of odors with the Montego Bay suite as you are on the corner, not right next to the vent. We considered a suite on the Riviera deck when booking the cruise but opted not to based on some reports of noise from the Lido deck above and the narrower balcony. Also, we love the aft view when you are sailing. Hope that helps.
