  1. Hello upwarduk,

as uktog mentions, we rarely have an Azamazing Evening on a Trans-Ocean crossing. This voyage you're on is something of a one-off for us, as well. It has sold very well so I wouldn't be surprised to see the itinerary repeated in the future, which would bode well for our planning an Azamazing Evening in the future. But for this year I have not heard of an AE in the works. Very sorry to disappoint you.

p.s. please do post about the voyage!

Is it possible to find out if there will be a White Night on the 9.9.16 TA cruise.

    Thank you

  2. Let me start by saying I have a thing about hairdryers !!!!!!! It's 1 of the things I would want on a desert island....how sad is that??

I always take my own and I find that the European socket gives more power than the US style socket.

I have a travel hairdryer which has good power, the handle fold in and it is quite light....compact.

In a perfect world I would prefer not to have to take my own but the Az dryer for almost 3 weeks is a big no for me....and of course we are staying on in Montreal & Iceland afterwards.

If you aren't particularly bothered then the Az dryer will probably be ok for you.

    Hi Joyce,

Just noticed you are staying over in Iceland. We were there a couple of years ago on a Celebrity cruise. Just want to give you a couple of tips if you are going to the Blue Lagoon. Book your tickets on line if there are any cruise ships in port. I had loads of OBC so used it for ships tours - normally a no no for us. Thankfully we did, as Celebrity had booked all the tickets for that day and people without tickets were not being allowed in.

Do take care with the mud! One of our passengers damaged her eyes and there were serious concerns.

On saying all that we had a wonderful time. We also met a couple who are joining us on our 9th Sept cruise to Canada. I think you are also on this cruise - we can get together if you wish

  3. Actually, if they are the same as previously..... take your own!!! They are the sort where you have to hold down the switch while you use it......or as some suggest fit a rubber band to hold down the switch......crap....why do they not supply a proper normal hairdryer.

It is 1 of my pet hates...hair dryers not fit for purpose when it costs no more to supply a decent hairdryer.

    PACK your own!

Thank you - change of plan - really hate having to hold the switch. I will take my own.

  4. If you pay your tips there is no need to tip extra. We do give a small tip for room service. We have given extra $20 to waiters who have been really good - changing vegetables from set meals, etc.

On one cruise we had an amazing waiter but only four out of eight paid the set gratuities. The other four removed them as 'no one gave them tips when they worked'. As a result we four gave extra because not only did they deserve it but just to show the Head Waiter that it was not because of bad service that the others removed their gratuities. Some never intend paying anything.

  5. I have just printed my travel booklet. It does state that we have prepaid our gratuities but no mention that a drink package should be included. Actually I can't find where this would be stated either. Should it be there?

I have printed my travel agent invoice where drinks package/OBC/gratuities are listed - would this be sufficient?

  6. Has anyone actually had a select package (free!) and just paid the difference for the more expensive wines? We have the select package and can't decide whether to pay for the Premium.

the reason I am asking is that on Celebrity, which is the same company, if you are on the basic drinks package you are not allowed to pay the difference for a better wine - if you go over the limit you must pay for the drink in full. Only if you have the more expensive package can you pay the difference.

  7. Hi Jenna109,

I'll see if I can find info for you.

    Any specific questions you have?

Thank you Bonnie I appreciate your reply

    What is involved?

    Cost?

    Documents Required if any?

  8. We will be celebrating our 50th anniversary on board and would like to make it special with a blessing. I have just been on the Azamara site but cannot find any details. Any information would be appreciated.

  9. Excellent advice regarding do it yourself trips. We do our own or link up with others on the specific cruise forum. For independent tours toms ports guides dot com has excellent local information. The site does not do tours or try to sell you anything - Tom is an avid cruiser who give extremely useful information. Lots of his ideas cost nothing ie free local buses which are not really advertised.

Enjoy your holiday and do what is right for your family

  10. They don't know that until you are off the ship, for obvious reasons.

They definitely do know almost as soon as you do it. They are even questioned by supervisors to find out why.

One waiter even asked me why I had cancelled. Actually I hadn't it was an admin error as we were on a b2b

  11. I have been fortunate to have had over 20 cruises in the last seven years and the only ship I have removed tips from my account was Cunard QM2. It wasn't the passengers who were arrogant but the staff! We have sailed on Q.Victoria and it was excellent and very friendly staff. It was on the QM2 that we found out you COULD stop the tips from the account - Six passengers from our table, who only sail with Cunard, told us that they never pay them up front.

Over these years I have seen lots of points of view regarding tipping - all valid to the writer and so correct. I do pay my tips on my account and VERY rarely would give extra. Lots of writers like to say 'we always give a big tip at the end' - how long is a piece of string! They never give actual amounts. When we sail Azamara the tips are included (also bumps up the holiday price of course) but the staff do not wait round for extra. would this be the case on all ships?

One very good point with P&O is the fact that children under 12 do not pay - not so with Disney and Royal Caribbean - we had to pay full tips for our grandson who was sharing our cabin. $36 per day!

  12. 17 cabins per steward

    34 passengers

    £2.50 per person = £85 per day

    30 days per month = £2,250

    8 months contract = £20, 400

    Mmm, makes you think!.

They also have to pay their assistant and give their 'tips' to any other helpers - particularly on change over days. Also, as said, not everyone will give a tip.
