I am sure Restaurant owners and workers are thrilled with your advice after being devastated for a year and barely holding on as it is. Carnival can weather the storm, your local BBQ joint is going out of business to thunderous applause :classic_dry:

There should have been more assistance for all Americans (including small business owners) during this global pandemic.

Right, just put all the restaurants out of business. There's no reason people can't go out to eat and do it safely and support local businesses. Why don't we just shut every business down and make people stay home. Why pick and choose which ones go under.

We eat take out often. You can buy gift cards. There's innumerable ways to support your favorite local restaurant other than exposing yourself and others for the next few weeks.

We're not picking and choosing. The way the virus spreads is determining that — the science and the data. I'm a former restaurant owner. I wouldn't put making a few extra dollars ahead of the health and safety of my employees and customers.

  3. Welp. We just lost a cruise out of these cancelations, but it was completely expected at this point.

Was originally slated for last summer, then this summer, now who knows when? It stinks, but is minor compared to all the other losses as a result of the pandemic. Stay safe and stay kind. Hope to be back on a cruise in summer 2022!

An actual scientific study, in fact, showed masks didn’t effect the spread. Maybe it’s because people aren’t wearing them right. Maybe masks work. But anyone who is depending on masks to protect them are basing it on a wish, not science.

The science has repeatedly shown that masks help prevent the spread and may actually reduce the viral load should you come into contact with someone with Covid.

But in no way would I 'DEPEND' on a mask. I treat everyone I encounter as if they are carrying the virus. I practice good social distancing, wear a mask when in public and wash my hands frequently — and generally avoid crowds in general overall. I'm not 'depending' on a mask to do all the heavy lifting, it's just one part of the overall battle plan to try to avoid this thing until I/we get vaccinated.

This tells you alot. My husband was diagnosed with COVID - we were together for two days before his positive came in, but since this started we have been distancing and wearing masks even inside. I have kept to the spare room and I have been tested twice since this happened 12 days ago and I am still negative - so yes, masks and social distancing, plenty of handwashing as well works.

Now onto the topic at hand. We have a October 25th cruise booked. I am hoping that we are good by then. Its a short 4 day on the Conquest. If that gets cancelled I will probably roll over that to upgrade our March Carnival Sailabration cruise from the 5 day Ecstasy to either the Pride or Mardi Gras depending on what's available with the Sunrise as the 3rd choice.

It is either going to sail or it isn't - I have now had 3 cruises cancelled, so I am not sweating it - just gotta live each day as it comes!

Best of luck to you and your husband. I hope he starts feeling well soon, if he hasn't already rebounded!

We have a cruise slated for late June that's not even listed anymore on the Carnival site, but I'm still officially booked for it. I'm sure it's just a matter of time before it's canceled. Mask wearing is certainly sporadic where I live in North Carolina. My general perception is that those in rural areas tend to just think they're immune to the spread, until they find out they aren't.

I've given a nice 'heart' to a few of the more political posts I've seen on these two pages for which I agree with the facts and logic. I'm hopeful we're going to turn the corner soon in this country. It certainly seems like the new administration is determined to move heaven and earth to fight this pandemic with everything they have. I believe they understand it's the number one issue in the country right now, and nothing else really matters until the virus is under control. I surely wish science hadn't become so politicized.

Be safe and kind, folks. We'll be back on ships before we know it. . .right?

Paradise drydock has been delayed until later this year. It is basically out of action until then.

I really hope it comes back to Tampa again, that was a convenient and fun cruise on a great ship.

While not a surprise (for many reasons), I hadn't seen that anywhere (and I've searched on Twitter and Google). Thanks for the info. When do you think Carnival will announce this?

The plan drydock work might been delay pushing the work to a later day. New guidelines were also release that require a ship to complete the drydock work before sailings can resume

Sailings are listed for the Paradise out of Tampa starting in November, but we've received no guidance from Carnival on ours in late-June.

I know for a multitude of reasons they are staggering announcing cancelations, I guess you think it's only a matter of time before my cruise joins that list? Or am I looking at this wrong?

  8. My recollection from an early-December release was that the Carnival Paradise, sailing out of Tampa, was in dry dock and all cruises thru the end of May had been canceled.

Of course, we're booked on that ship in late June, which I figured was tenuous for multiple reasons now. But the last week or two, on the Carnival site, there's NO cruises available out of Tampa until November now. I've searched for other releases or cancelations announced on this ship/port, but can't find anything.

Any clues for me? What am I missing?

  9. This seems like a reasonable and logical progression by the company. Makes a lot of sense. And obviously I'm sure they still have a lot of wiggle room if things start going awry in some of the states that have implemented more robust 'reopening' maneuvers the last couple weeks.

Our specific cruise is now canceled, but I'm comfortable with that. We'll book for next summer. Good luck to everyone else!

Cruise ships are not petri dishes...period.  It is so network news to suggest so.

The vast amount of documented infections in the last couple months would argue otherwise.

It's all good, however. I'm confident that science and ingenuity will win the day, just not certain when that particular day will be.

    Be safe!

I see no analogy between a cruise ship and the aircraft carrier other than they are both ships, totally different environments, have you ever been on an aircraft carrier?

    USS USS Theodore Roosevelt
    Length: Overall: 1,092 feet

    Carnival Dream 1,004ft

Large ships with a massive amount of people conifned. That's the similarity.

Please don't take this the wrong way... but if you think a cruise ship is a "floating petri dish" and you won't be on a ship in the near future, what is the point of reading and contributing to a forum like this about cruising?

For all of those who think a cruise ship is a "petri dish", you really need to educate yourselves about all of the places in the world that are FAR more dirty, including some places even in your own home.  If you think a cruise ship is bad, I would recommend you never visit some of the kitchens of your local, neighborhood restaurants.

Confined space with thousands of the same people mingling together for up to a week. Kind of the same general concept as the USS Theodore Roosevelt, where there's nearly 700 confirmed cases from less than 5,000 service members.

I don't think folks are trying to be overly negative toward Carnival or the cruise industry by calling it a petri dish, it's just the general condition of what we do on there collectively. It's probably a fair analogy.

Has anyone tried to get an extension for their final payment? I have one due on the 29th of April and I am not sure if I want to pay out $4000 and then try to get a refund or FCC for a cruise later on.

If it's too long a wait on the call, you can reach out to them via Facebook messenger. I've two transactions for a June 29th cruise out of Tampa. One I'd paid off early this year, just to get ahead of the game. The other had a final payment due late this month, which they extended until May 29th now. Hopefully we'll know more by then how things are looking.

Honestly, everyone at Carnival I've deal with the last month have been pretty helpful. They've exceeded my expectations.
