  1. I didn't know Royal had started putting lifeguards on duty. That can only be a good move, IMHO. When my daughter was younger, despite being an excellent swimmer, she was jumped on in the pool by two teenage boys who hurt her back and pushed her under. My husband was in the pool but it happened really quickly. No lifeguards to stop the teenagers running around the pool and running and jumping into the water.

Daughter is 18 now so can use the Solarium, but even so, if I have to wait five more minutes for my food as a result of lifeguards being employed, that's fine.

  2. Which cruise are you on Spanner? A difference of almost $2000 to jump from an inside or OV to a basic balcony seems incredibly steep.

Celebrity currently have 7 night suite deals from $1205 per person so I'm intrigued to know the specific details as it seems incredibly high. :)

RC's Explorer of the Seas next August - I suspect the high prices and huge jump between stateroom categories are due to timing (departs during school holidays), departing from Southampton (always pricey in June-Sep) and the 13 night duration. It's fine; we're trying a Promenade view for the first time, and that cruise will tip us over into Platinum on Royal so we can then return to Celebrity as Select. :)

  3. It is a great perk for the bottom feeders that only book the cheapest cabins and always look for the cheapest rates and deals that got to Elite Plus before the change. You got one point for each cruise no matter how long.

They are now Elite Plus and get many good perks like espresso drinks, Elite breakfast with drinks and the HH.

They continue to be bottom feeders and are happy with it . Don’t find any fault with it as they are taking advantage of everything.

Personally I would rather pay a little more and at least have a veranda. If it cost a few dollars more for the extra perks I will also pay the extra as the cost is often less then the benefits and value of enjoying a balcony.

We mostly sail in AQ and always walk past the Elite breakfast but rarely go in and if we do after breakfast no one ever checks. HINT HINT HINT

It is ironic that when Elite level was achieved all of the cruises after included the drink pack. The other perks don’t amount to much and the laundry is useless on a 7 day cruise unless you take dirty laundry with you. The only perk that we basically use is the internet and on our last cruise that was 14 days we had 220 minutes remaining from our 240 (Elite Plus). We did us our laundry on that one.

Not complaining but telling it like it is

    Happy cruising

How very fortunate for you. As a disabled cruiser, I long for a balcony, but on my upcoming cruise I can't afford one as the "few dollars more" is actually almost two thousand dollars. It's interior promenade view or no cruise, so I will be delighted with my cheap room.

Don't fret though, I will "only" turn Platinum/Select during this cruise, so you won't be contaminated by having to come into contact with this particular "bottom feeder" next time I cruise with X. Being in the UK we have been given drinks packages though, even though we are nowhere near your lofty status. :)

By the way - in my experience, "telling it like it is" is often used as an excuse to be extremely rude about other people. Not a nice trait.

  4. Ship - Eclipse

    Deck - 8

    Cabin # - 8101

    Class – OV

Starboard or Port Side - front

Bed near?(balcony or bath) – bath

Quiet Cabin (With comments on problems. Note if connecting. ) – Quiet apart from some anchor noise. Not a problem.

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – No balcony, great view from the front window.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? -

    Was wind a problem?

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem?

Any specific problems with this cabin? On scenic fjord days there is a large gathering of people outside the window, so check that the curtains are closed before you get dressed!

Any other comments? Being right at the front, seasickness was more of an issue in windy weather.

  5. Ship - Eclipse

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - normal

    Was wind a problem? No.

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem?

Any specific problems with this cabin? None.

Any other comments? Lovely room, nice to be able to look along to the bridge, plenty of space for w/chair. Liked the automatic door.

  6. Hello! :)

New to Explorer and our last two cruises were both on Celebrity. Looking at an accessible stateroom for 3 for next August and have the following choices:

Accessible interior on deck 9 (sofabed)

Accessible interior with virtual balcony on deck 10

Accessible Promenade view guarantee (guessing deck 7)

    (both these have rollaway bed)

Despite only having rollaway bed for our teenage daughter, I'm tempted by the virtual balcony on deck 10 as long as there isn't a lot of noise from the pool deck upstairs. All opinions welcome though as all these categories are new to me.

    Thanks in advance!

  7. Afternoon :) I have searched unsuccessfully but apologies if this is a FAQ. Firstly, does anyone know what the average weather is likely to be in the North Sea? Travelling on Eclipse from Southampton up to the Norwegian Fjords, leaving on Saturday. Only ever gone to the Med from Southampton so have no clue what the weather is going to be like, and consequently what to pack for the sea days.

Secondly, is it likely that the F1 GP will be shown anywhere onboard on Sunday? We'll be on a Sea Day so no idea what if any satellite channels we might get.

    Thank you!

  8. I do not think Celebrity is a good cruise line for active young people

I really think it depends on the itinerary. Our dd was 16 when we cruised on Connie last year and although at one point she did say "I wish I'd gone to the teen hangout on day 1", - to meet other teens - most of the time she was fine. Unlike Royal, she never met anyone her age at the pool, but because the itinerary was so port-heavy and she is very good at entertaining herself, she was only a little bored on the two sea days.

That said, we always take a couple of games and lots of books onboard with us, and she used the gym and swam almost every day, so she still had a great time.

If the itinerary is port heavy and/or teens are happy using the gym, reading, and entertaining themselves, they'll be fine despite M class ships not having a great deal to do. If there are a lot of sea days though, I agree they may get bored at times.

  9. After dinner it seemed like the ship really started

rocking. Up until this point sometimes it was

hard to know we were actually on a ship, but

    tonight we knew.

We went to the show A Hard Day's Night, which was

a tribute band to the Beattles. They were okay

and not the best, but maybe it was because of

the rocking as near the end of the show the young

man that was playing Paul, had to bolt from the

stage as he was sea sick. Poor guy!!!

At bed this night we were rocked very heavily to sleep.

Oh my, poor chap! Was it very windy?

Thank you so much for your great review so far; hoping to book Eclipse next year and it looks wonderful. I'm really enjoying reading your posts. :)

  10. I called RC the other day about the transfer of points to the Captain's Club. They were able to see all my sailings on Celebrity as well.

Reciprocity doesn't go both ways if you are below Select/Platinum though, does it?

For example I'm one point below Platinum on RC but even after 2 Celebrity Cruises my C&A points won't have changed, will they?

  11. Good morning,

Can anyone help me decide whether to go Deck 7 port or Deck 10 starboard for an August Norwegian Fjords cruise on Eclipse? Both cabins are near the forward elevators.

I know that aft balconies would probably be great but I'm limited to accessible cabins and both the 2B on Deck 7 Port and the C3 on Deck 10 Starboard are accessible (and affordable! ;))

I just wondered if one side or the other might have better views in the Fjords.

    Thank you!
