  1. Thanks for the update.  Hoping the pain subsides for you, but honestly, that area looks pretty far from being healed.  Such a series of unfortunate events, as they say.  Keeping you in prayers, and healing thoughts coming your way.

Will the blood clots dissolve eventually?  My DH had a DVT in his leg and the doctor explained that it had calcified in his thigh and the veins do eventually make their way around it, but it has never be the same as far as circulation goes.  Being a nurse, i'm sure you a lot more knowledgeable about these things, guess I'm just curious why some blood clots dissolve (he also had a pulmonary embolism) and some just hang around. lol

  2. thanks for the update.  feel so bad for you that the injury is not healing as it should.  praying that the antibiotics will take care of it and you wont have to have surgery and the open drainage.

I agree with you and the others that a lawyer is the way to go now for the workers comp.  also, if you expect to be out of work for at least a year, you could look into social security disability.  you don't have to wait a year to file for it, but the doctors would have to indicate in their records that they expect you'll be unable to work for a year.  and the way things are going for you, it may just be that long unfortunately.

glad to see you had some good news, regarding the other side of the foot, the medication costs etc.

keeping you in my thoughts and prayers!

Thanks so much for the comments and I happy you enjoy the reviews.

I did see that Carepath they offered and will be considering it for the future if needed. I'm just wondering what the copay is if you don't have insurance. My issue is, this happened while I was working and my employer is fighting it so everything is up in the air right now while we battle it out. If it gets approved, I won't have any issues. It's just getting the meds while I'm waiting or if they don't approve it. 😞

Hopefully, the comp will get resolved quickly. Although I have heard that some cases just drag on, keeping my fingers crossed that isn't the case for you!  Good luck with your recovery!

  4. Have always enjoyed your reviews.  So much detail, I feel like I am there!

So sorry what you are going through with your foot/leg.  Hopefully you will be feeling better soon!

My DH is on Xarelto (has been for several years).  He is on a program thru Janssen Carepath for it.  We have other insurance and our copay would be about $150/month (as you said, no generic so copay is higher).  He gets it at our regular pharmacy (walgreens) and pays $10/month.  The pharmacy submits it to our insurance and then to Janssen carepath for the remainder.  Including a link so you can check it out!  Good luck!

  5. Has anyone else ever won? Is there anything I should know? Thanks!

We won a cruise at bingo a few years ago - it was a bingo prize on the last day of the cruise. Ours was for an inside cabin but you could pay to upgrade. We did pay port taxes and fees. They gave us a special number to call to book it. It ended up costing between $600-$700 for 2 people for a 7 day cruise.

The other thing is that it did not count toward our lattitudes rewards - no points earned because it was a "free" cruise.

    That's all I can remember.

Hope it works out for you!!

  6. I'm back on the Dawn in September and happy to hear they won't be there either. Just got off the Gem and that singer was so much better.

Looks like they will be back on the Dawn starting September 11th. Hoping your cruise is prior to that!

    :)

  7. Uniall .. I totally agree with your overall interpretation.

Where did you discover the change for Platinum regarding Le Bistro? The two dinners in Le Bistro were something we were looking forward to..as well as the wine. :(

We (DH and I) each received dinner for 2 last month on the Gem. And a poster on another thread (who is on the Getaway now) stated he and his DW each received the dinner for 2 platinum reward. So it may be something coming in the future (wouldn't be surprised), but I don't believe it has been implemented yet.

  8. If that's true, now they are hurting me where I "live". We have never ordered room service. I didn't mind the scaling down of the box of chocolates. I didn't mind the "one champagne" per cabin. But when they start issuing just one specialty restaurant voucher for multiple platinums who travel in the same cabin, now there won't be much perk to having my husband along versus sailing solo. LOL

We're just of the Gem this past Friday - we are both platinum. My DH and I EACH got a specialty dinner certificate for 2 and we EACH got the laundry perk. Only 1 bottle of "champagne" and 1 small box of chocolates (4 pieces). So, as others have said, I don't think the restriction is being implemented on the ships.

  9. I am on Breakaway today. Starting this sailing, all room service charges regardless of time receive a $7.95 charge! Will upload a picture of the new menu when I get back.

I am very upset about this. We love breakfast on the balcony some days before tours and late night snacks. I can't wait for the NCL apologists to defend this one. We received no notice of this increase prior to the cruise and I believe (although may be mistaken) that room service was always listed in the complimnetary dining section on the website.

This does shed some light on what happened to us last week - we got off the Gem on Friday. When we arrived, there were no room service menus in the room. When I asked the room steward if he could bring us one and some breakfast order cards, he said they didn't have them yet because they were in the process of changing them. Later in the week, he brought us a printed sheet like the one you showed, but not any breakfast cards. We never ended up using it, cause I just normally use it to order coffee and pastries before breakfast and didn't feel like asking him again.

I don't blame you OP for being upset. When changes are being implemented, there should always be a lead time and notice given. Unacceptable on NCL's part!

Hope you have a great cruise despite this bump in the road!

  10. Just got back from a 10 day cruise onboard the Norwegian Pearl. We booked the cruise using Norwegian's 800 number and was told we would receive a onboard credit as Norwegian has a promotion going on where you could pick between the ultimate drink package, the ultimate dinner package or a cruise credit. We decided on the cruise credit. Only problem is we never received it. We inquired several times at the reception desk but they where rude and kept telling us that we had to call our travel agent. They just could not comprehend that we booked our cruise through Norwegian and that we did not use a travel agent. Beware of what Norwegian promises and make sure you getting everything in writing.

thanks for the warning OP. I am leaving tomorrow and just checked my EDOCS. I don't see our onboard credit anywhere on there. So I printed off the vacation summary which does have it listed and will bring that along. Again, thank you!!

  11. Hi All,

We usually cruise the GEM once a year in the winter/spring. We are going again next week. The last few trips, the slot machines have been the same as in previous years.

I was wondering if any recent Gem cruisers, who have been previously, have noticed if they have changed any of the machines.

Also, what is your favorite/luckiest slot in the casino?

    Thanks!!

  12. I was truly much more angry with the way they handled the situation than the situation itself.

The OP seems much more concerned with the way they were treated than the fact of the lost/cancelled reservation. I think she may realize that a cancellation may have been emailed to her but without internet access, she just didn't receive it.

I agree with her that it seems she was treated poorly. I would expect someone (Jason?) to be assigned to handle the problem including making the necessary phone calls (especially since OP did not have a phone with her). It seems she was just left to her own devices to try to find out what had happened. This is NOT good customer service, and she has every right to be upset (IMHO).

  13. Has anyone ever stayed in Paramus, NJ? Looking for a reasonable place to stay the night before departure.

Any suggestions would be welcomed. Would like to stay an hour or less away. Coming from Ithaca, NY.

    Thank you.

We sailed on the Gem last year and stayed the night before in Fairfield NJ. It was about a 35 minutes drive to the cruise terminal. I believe the hotel was La Quinta and included a small breakfast buffet. It was around $75 for the night.

  14. We cruised on the Gem 1/30. We've always been the same way "I can't cruise without a balcony" TBH we barely used it. Since we're smokers, we spent a lot of time up on deck 13 at the bar that's smoking. We even decided on booking an Family suite on the repo Oct 2016 that doesn't have a balcony. As long as I can see outside we're fine, and it's just a short walk to the pool if we want fresh air.

It's all personal preference. I like to be outside, but for our 14 day repo, we have a ton of ports so I figure the suite perks out weigh the balcony, especially if we want to get off super early at any port.

We are going on the Gem next month. We too are smokers. Where were the smoking locations on the Gem? Last time we were on her, there were a few spots on Deck 7, one side of the pool deck, and the casino (and balconies at that time). Just wondering if they still have those same outdoor areas.

    Thanks!

  15. Where would I see it on My NCL account?

After you've logged in, click on my account. The drop down menu will appear and under your name and lat #, there will be a choice of "my account". When you click on that, mine shows "my cruise vacations" first- which is our upcoming cruise. The next category under that is " My Cruise Rewards & Welcome Back Rewards". That is where my FCC is listed.

  16. We gifted one of the complimentary bottles of wine along with our tip to the cabin steward. I specifically wrote a note saying that it was our gift, just so that he wouldn't get in trouble for it. Even then, he seemed reluctant to take it.

On our last cruise, we had purchased our last bucket of beer, but only drank one. When we saw our steward on the morning of disembarkation, we told him he was welcome to it. He said he couldn't take it then, but if we left it in the room after we left, he certainly could (and gave us a wink). So maybe they can't "accept" it from you directly, but if you leave it there...

This had nothing to do with our tip. We left DSC in place and left him additional $$ as well. He was excellent!!

  17. Tried searching but not having success. If I buy the Verizon plan for data and pay the $25 do I then incur charges from ships satellite service over and above to use data (pretty much just emails, won't be making calls) wondering if this is a less expensive option than an internet package to stay on top of emails. Sorry of this is a dumb question; not very savvy! I have a Samsung Galaxy if that means anything.

Sent from my SCH-I545 using Forums mobile app

I have an iphone and Verizon. I am not savvy either when it comes to these things and in fact, only got this kind of phone approx. 6 months ago.

I called Verizon prior to our trip in March. I was told the $25 plan covered if I was at home (in the US) and wanted to make international calls. She told me it WOULD NOT cover me making calls if I and my phone were in a different country!

She said that I would pay approx. 2.50/min for calls I made. She said that it would only cost me 50cents to send a text and 5 cents to receive one. She also advised that I put my roaming option on voice only, so the phone would not roam and check my email for me, etc.

I barely used my phone - kept it off most of the time. I did tell family and friends at home if they NEEDED to get hold of us, to send me a text and I would be checking it periodically.

My advice would be to call Verizon directly and have them send you an email confirmation of everything they tell you.

Good luck! Have a great cruise!
