If you mean the Solarium, it was wonderful. Not as hot as some of the other ships since this one has some open roof areas. There are a couple of hot tubs in there, a smaller circular pool, bar and the Solarium Bistro is also accessed from there. Lots of seating and loungers with comfortable cushions and some of those basket type seats you can lie down in. It was open every time I went there. Be sure to check out the lower level and head out to the wings - the one on the port side has a section of glass floor which is pretty neat.

The main pool area had 4 areas - sports pool, main pool, beach pool and the H2O zone for kids. The beach pool has umbrellas over the loungers which is nice if you can snag one. It wasn't too busy on our trip but we sailed with only 42% capacity. I would expect this area to be highly sought after once she sails full.

All the specialty restaurants were open. We went to Jamie's Italian, Johnny Rockets, Wonderland and Play Makers. The main dining room was open for breakfast and dinner, with lunch available on sea days as per usual. The Windjammer was closed for dinner but we were told it would be opening up again when the pax count got over 50%. If you didn't want a specialty restaurant or the dining room for dinner you were limited to Cafe Promenade or Sorrentos. Park Cafe closed around 5 or 6 each evening but was open for breakfast and lunch.

We were on the 11/6 cruise and the Solarium Bistro was available for buffet dinners. Reservations suggested.

On Symphony for my second leg - around 3650 guests and still Windjammer is not open for dinner. Hopefully next week.

Was on the same Symphony cruise and the Solarium Bistro was open for buffet dinner with advance reservations. The Symphony Bistro is significantly larger than those on the other Oasis class ships.

  3. Just completed our 3rd fantastic voyage aboard the Oasis. Attached is the 7-Day planner for the 18 January 2014 Western Caribbean departure. Times for some of the activities shown in the planner changed as the week progressed. If you have any specific questions please let me know and I'll try to answer for you.

  4. We just returned today from the Allure W. Carib. run. No delays related to the center azipod "issue' that the Captain discussed during a Q&A session yesterday at the Aqua Theatre. The Capt. explained that the 3 azipods are not required to operate at full power to maintain schedule but if required, could be "spooled" up to do so.

During our sea day run from Falmouth to Cozumel I observed the center azipod to be powered down. We had a small current at our stern and had no problems reaching Cozumel on schedule. The other two azipods were operating at less than full power and we had a speed over ground in excess of 17 knots.

I'm confident that RCI is monitoring the health of this azipod and will take immediate action if the condition deteriorates significantly such that safety or schedule could be compromised.

  5. School finally got out on Friday, so I am catching up. We were on Uniworld's Paris-Normandy last summer: fantastic blend of history and art. On formal nights, my husband wore a sport coat, dress shirt, and khakis: no tie. There was an almost even mix of suits and jackets sans ties. Some wore just a dress shirt and pants while others added a tie. My husband was comfortable as he was right in the middle. On regular nights he wore khakis and a golf shirt. I hope this helps.

Very helpful indeed. Think I'll just pack one sport jacket; have a few dress shirts planned already so it sounds like I will fit in just perfectly.

    Thanks,

    John

  6. Thanks for your impressions of the cruise. We are booked for the same departing Amsterdam on 15 July. Could you please give us some insight on the cost of some of the optional excursions? I assume we can charge to our onboard account?

This will be our 1st river cruise also after approx. 20 ocean-going voyages.

    Thanks again.

    John
