  1. From the Spirit Q&A: http://www.ncl.com/nclweb/fleet/shipInformation.html?shipCode=SPIRIT

Can we bring soft drinks onboard and, if so, is there a limit?

    Answer:

Yes you can. We took a 12 pack of Cokes on board.

    Answer:

We have cruised several times and yes we have seen guests bring water and soft drinks aboard the ships. I did notice that they brought bottled drinks because the drinks had to be scanned same as the luggage.

This certainly indicates (to me) that though NCL 'approves' bringing soft drinks because they 'approved' these answers. :D

  2. I e-mailed my incredibly helpful TA over the weekend about this:

    "Larry:

I understand NCL has amended their 200 pound pp luggage limit to:

How many suitcases can I bring?

Each guest is allowed up to two pieces of personal luggage on board, with each piece weighing a maximum of 50 pounds. However, if you are traveling by air, ask the airline if they have different restrictions.

    in the 'Welcome Aboard' packet.

Because of formal (wedding) dresses, goodie bags, etc. we might make it under the poundage but DEFINITELY NOT under the 2 bag limit. I haven't told Maggie Cate about this as it is just one more thing... Hoping you can either get us special circumstances dispensation or get definitive confirmation that it is a bunch of hooey.

Also, we are really looking forward to our E-Docs and "Welcome Aboard" packets. Not knowing about the 30 days out things (as everything on NCL says sixty days) we scheduled our cruiser get-together for the second weekend in May. WE WOULD REALLY REALLY REALLY like to have everybody bring E-Docs and Welcome Aboard packet. What are the chances?

    Thanks.

    Clare"

    His response:

    "Clare,

You can bring two pieces of luggage plus one carry on. I have never had a problem as far as the weight, if someone is flying then they need to check with the airline."

Thanks a lot. All set now.

  3. ...but just in case, there it is printed and placed in my cruise folder. If someone says something, just show them their own dang web site. Next week this time I'll be on my cruise!! Oh yeah!!

Thanks for the advice... all ready to go - 'armed' with the website printout LOL. I'll put it with my E-Docs if I EVER GET MY E-DOCS! 39 DAYS OUT AND STILL WAITING! Gheeeesh.

Have a GREAT time on your cruise!

  4. I don't have a scanner so I am typing it verbatim out of the book.

How many suitcases can I bring?

Each guest is allowed up to two pieces of personal luggage on board, with each piece weighing a maximum of 50 pounds. However, if you are travelling by air, ask the airline if they have differrent restrictions.

    Oh oh.

Hopefully recent cruisers who did not watch and learn from the 'pack light' video  will post what happend to them.

Sniff-test: what would NCL do? Make you leave the extra bags on the pier? Have a yard sale? Charge extra for them? Anybody looking for a wedding dress - size six - in a beautuful new garment bag?

  5. Could anybody scan the verbiage in the "welcome aboard' packet? I am fairly concerned about this whole thing... we have garments bags, decorations, goodie bags, all kinds of stuff for the wedding...

I'd certainly appreciate anybody taking the time out to scan and post.

    Thanks.

  6. We have ALL KINDS of wedding stuff to bring with us... I had no problems staying under the 200 pounds but the two bag rule JUST AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN. Nobody really thinks they will give us any trouble, do you? Please say no or it's back to the drawing board (AHHHHHHHHH!).

No packing light video recommendations, PLEASE!

    Thanks.

  7. I type LOL all the time but I really did gaffaw out loud! GOL?

On my first cruise ever Majesty - Boston to Bermuda four of us forty-somethings piled in one cabin and had the time of our lives. One night while we were in port we ran back for dinner and got there at a quarter to something - pretty much the last second. We felt badly for the waitstaff and tried to hurry. The waitstaff was pleased ot help us hurry and, I swear - right out the Three Stooges I followed my swiftly departing soup bowl vertically up from the table trying to get one more spoonful. (We were all ravenous.)

It doesn't read as so funny but it really was. Later that night we met the maitre 'd (is that spelled right) in a bar. We bought him a drink and told him the Moe soup story. It was really funny!

He didn't think it was funny and demanded to know the waiter's name. No way. He couldn't have pried it out of us. We bought him another drink.

Anyway on the last night of the cruise what lands in our room but a lovely box full of four different fancy liquors! I remember Kalua and Tia Maria...

We figured it was a kind of apology (unecessary) for the Larry spoon thing. We drew lots for the bottles but ended up pooling them anyway having a picture party a week or two later.

Honestly, it wasn't until our next cruise that we figured out that it must have been somebody ELSE's liquor! It was a bit late then to do anything about it but that just made the Shemp soup story even better.

Funny, it's a quick story to tell, takes a bit longer to type it LOL.

I hope the poor souls that didn't get their liquor were recompensed - but maybe they were under 21 and shouldn't have had it anyway. Your Bob Newhartesque post made me think of it and smile.
